I woke up to find myself in the middle of an arena. I was a nine year old boy surrounded by dozens of adults who had powers alike to mine. I was confused but I didn't show it. I checked my wound and i noticed that it was sealed. I heard the intercom start.
“This will be the battle that chooses your fate. Only one of you may live to see tomorrow. This is a fight to the death. Hold back and you WILL be killed. Ready BEGIN!!”
I was trapped in the echos of the word “death”. I have never hurt a fly before. Why would I kill someone now. I began to panic, I could barely move. My ears blocked out all noise that was coming through. I froze right then and there. I saw blood splash everywhere. It didn’t matter where I turned. Dozens of men were killing each other right in front of my young pure eyes. I couldn’t handle the pressure, I let out a scream. My mind could not process the thought of someone dying in front of me. I do remember one man that stood out from the rest. While I was on the ground shrieking with blood over my body he put out his hand right in front of me. He told me to trust him with my life. I had never met him once in my entire life but his eyes, voice and actions were not those of a liar. I could barely function but he whispered to me.
“I promise I will protect you. You are too young to be experiencing death.”
The moment i heard him I knew I could trust him. He fended off many enemies coming our way without allowing one to come close to me. I was happy that he protected me. He did not turn on me either. He stayed true to his word. I never met a man like him. I began to notice that he was steadily becoming tired. The competitors began to come in groups. I knew he couldn’t handle any more. I began to let my tears flow out like a river.
“Leave me behind. You can survive if you run. Don’t die!!” I yelled at him.
But do you know what he told me. He told me that he would rather die than live on knowing he couldn’t protect a young boy. The competitors began to hit him one by one. I begged for them to stop. I tried my best. Luckily he was able to protect me with a couple of bruises. I told him to never leave my side. He promised me he wouldn’t. But just as he was about to finish his sentence i saw a fist go right through his heart. My eyes slowly opened wider, i looked him in the face and he was not the slightest bit worried about himself.
“Don’t listen to anyone. You fight to protect. Grow up to be a strong man who can protect his friends no matter the situation. Promise me that you’ll never kill unless you need to protect something”
I instantly shook my head and he smiled. He began to cough up blood.
“Don’t die!! You promised me that you’d always be here for me” I began to cry.
“Hey, I’m Alex… I never asked for your name.” he said.
“I’m N-N-Neji”
He told me I had a nice name and to always remember him. I begged for Alex to stay with me. He told me he couldn’t hold out any longer and suddenly dropped to the ground. I checked for his pulse and it was no longer there.
I looked at the man who killed Alex and with a smirk he said “He wasn’t strong enough so I killed him. The strong survive, the weak don’t.” He began to laugh in my face.
“Stop it” I stated with a serious face.
He began to kick on Alex’s body even though Alex was already dead.
“Stop it” i whispered. “Stop it, please” I began to cry.
He refused to stop and was about to kick Alex one last time. One centimeter before his foot made contact with Alex’s body I snapped. I lost complete control over my body. But when I came around i saw everyone dead on the ground and my hands completely covered in blood.
