Nikolai was roused by a raucous banging on the front door of the small studio apartment. The woman next to him in the bed sat up quickly, grabbing the sheets to cover the top portion of her naked body. He groaned in annoyance before shooting her a dirty look. "Helena, I thought I told you to leave the rest of the day clear for me."
She shifted, rising up to look out the peephole to see who it could be. "I did, Nikolai! I'm not expecting anyone." Peering out the hole, she noticed it wasn't anyone for her, but rather someone for him. "It's your friend! Come to the door and receive him. I need to put on some clothes." She all but sprinted through the apartment and into the bathroom, her curly blond hair bouncing on her head and the bedsheet trailing all the way behind her.
Nikolai groaned in annoyance, running his hand through his dark wavy hair before standing up. While walking to the once again pounding door, he gave a wave of his hand, manifesting a pair of black sweatpants. He looked out the peephole, seeing his friend Decebal on the other side of the door. He whipped the door open and met the other man's gaze with an irritated scowl. "What do you want, Decebal?"
"I thought you would like to be informed of your older brother's return."
His dark eyebrows jumped nearly to the top of his head in surprise. "Oh really? The bastard was brave enough to show his face here after his fight with my father?" Vincentius had to have had a death wish... Either that, or his older brother was stupider than he remembered. "Do you have any knowledge as to why he's here?"
Decebal shrugged and scratched at his brown shaggy hair. "From what I have gathered, it is merely a social visit. A very reliable source says that he has a woman along with him."
Nikolai scoffed. "Well that does not surprise me. Vincentius has always been a womanizer."
"That attribute is hereditary, I see," his friend muttered when a now clothed Helena came into view.
"Fuck you, Decebal," he chuckled before crossing his arms. "Well I suppose now my parents will want me to be courteous and make an appearance." He rolled his eyes at the thought. Why should he have to alter his plans just to cater to his prodigal brother turning up unannounced?
"You know it, Nikolai. It's probably best you go back soon before your father comes looking." He turned on his heel and trotted down the stairs, taking his leave.
"Pfft!" Nikolai closed the door and heaved a sigh. "Change of plans, it seems. I must take my leave now." Waving his hand again, he manifested the rest of his clothes before finding his car key and wallet.
Helena scowled from her sitting position on her bed. "After you made me cancel my other bookings, you're leaving me?"
He waved his hand in dismissal. "So, make some more bookings or something. Just be available whenever I get back here because I am not finished with you." He emphasized his statement with a fanged smirk and a wink that had the human woman blushing. "I'll see you later tonight." With that, he opened the door and bounded down the stairs to the sidewalk where his Audi was parked. He had just started the car and was about to pull out when another car zoomed passed his, almost clipping his passenger side. Nikolai slammed on the brakes, bringing his car to a screeching halt before an accident could occur.
"Fiu de caţea!" Nikolai sneered before slowly pulling his car onto the road. He narrowed his eyes as the silver vehicle went speeding up the hill toward his family's castle. "Fucking tourists."

Dracul had always been a reasonably composed man, only showing out when completely and utterly necessary. He was the one who had taught Vincent that the quiet man controlled the game, which was how he often proceeded in his business dealings. The last time he saw his father, he was shouting at him, eyes glowing bright red and sharpened fanged bared like a rabid wolf fighting an arch-nemesis. However, in that moment, the cold, distant, eerily calm expression that his father directed at him unnerved Vincent even more than that day. To any stranger, Dracul would appear to just be nonchalant about the goings-on around him. But Vincent knew that look all too well. Behind those seemingly dead eyes, he knew his father burned with dangerous fury. He wasn't supposed to be there...
