12. Open Mic

Open Mic night only rolled around Hogwarts once a year around Easter Holiday break. Students were already getting so worked up about exams, so the staff tried to create fun activities to do. y/n saw the flier for it on her way to breakfast with Draco. y/n and Draco were dating, but she still managed to be friends with the Golden Trio, much to everyone's shock. 

"Hey, that looks like fun Dray!" She pointed at the flier and tugged on her boyfriend's sleeve. He laughed, thinking it was a joke. No one knew y/n was musically talented. 

"I'm not kidding! Plus everyone who performs gets a cool pin!" She grinned as she read the rest of the flier. 

"Well, you do love cool pins," Draco said, still thinking she was being sarcastic. Y/n enjoyed the challenge. 

"We should all go! You, me, and Harry and them! I bet I could sneak us all some pins." She looked to Draco eagerly.

"Alright, alright. If you want that pin so badly." Then they were off to breakfast. No one had any idea she would actually perform that night, and all seemed to laugh it off, but still came after some begging on her part. 

The night of Open Mic 

After a few mildly interesting performances, it was y/n's turn. She excused herself to the bathroom but ran to grab her guitar behind the stage and calmly went on. Draco looked up from the sip of water he was taking and instantly coughed it out causing the rest of the gang to look and see her shining in the spotlight. Their mouths hung open in shock. 

"Hey everyone! I'm gonna play some acoustics I've known since I was little, hope you enjoy!" She scrunched up her nose happily and pulled a stool up to the mic to sit. She started strumming and the whole room went quiet. 

"I had a dream the other night, about how we only get one life. Woke me up right after two. Stayed awake and stared at you, so I wouldn't lose my mind," she glanced up to look at Draco who was turning red but smiling, 

"And I had a week that came from Hell. And yes I know that you could tell. You're like the net under the ledge when I go flying off the edge, you go flying off as well."  She smiled softly as she remembered all the times Draco had been there for her. She felt warm and fuzzy when she was with him. 

"And if you only live once, I wanna live with you." She looked up again and looked at her wonderful group of friends who were all beaming in pride at her, they all swayed to the flow of her voice and guitar strumming. "You got something I need. In this world full of people, there's one lovin' me. If we're only here once, I wanna live with you." 

Y/n finished the song by strumming the outro softly and humming to the end. After the last chord, Draco jumped out of his seat and cheered. The rest of her friends followed suit. Everyone else was clapping politely and seemed to enjoy her heavenly voice. 

"Thank you! Haha, you guys are great. Now, since that went well, I hope you don't mind if I play you one more song?" She beamed before fiddling around on the strings of her guitar. People cheered lightly, so she took it as a yes. Draco sat back down and scooted closer to her in his chair. He couldn't take his eyes off her. 

"How much longer do I wait? How many sleepless nights remain? 'Till I can see you, 'till I can see you? After the cold winter ends, until spring decides to come again. Until flowers, they bloom again.  Please stay where you are and wait for me, please wait for me."  She started to talk and her voice was getting shaky from feeling tears come into her eyes. This song never failed to make her cry.

"Is it you that's different? Or is it really me that's different? I hate every moment that's passing by. I guess we've both changed,  I guess everything's changed. That's right, I hate you now. You left me but how can I stop thinking 'bout you, my heart won't allow. Honestly, truly I miss you,  But now I'll erase you. 'Cause even that hurts less than trying to blame you." 

"I breathe you out there somewhere. Like smoke in the air, like white smoke in the air.  I say that I will erase you, but the truth is that I can't bear to let you go yet," she looked up at the crowd and saw a couple of people's eyes beginning to water. 

"Please stay where you are and wait for me.  Please wait for me." She ended the song and shakily looked up sniffling a little, but smiled widely. This time there was much more applause. She moved the stool back and took a bow. She stepped down from the stage and ran back to her friends with her guitar strapped on her back still. 

"Y/N!!! YOU WERE AMAZING!" They all seemed to say at once. She blushed and couldn't handle the praise they were all giving. 

"Oh shush it guys, just bring it in!" y/n exclaimed. 

All of them showered her in hugs and smiles until they went to their dorms. 

"Goodnight y/n!" All the Gryffindors said and waved. She waved back happily as they closed the door. She turned to Draco, but he didn't let her speak. 

"Merlin, Princess, what you did on that stage was something out of a movie. One more reason to love you." He closed the gap between them and softly kissed her lips. She smiled and wrapped her arms delicately on his neck. When they stopped she kissed his nose. 

"I love you too Draco," and tussled his hair. 

"Goodnight y/n, my love." He looked into her beautiful eyes. 

"Goodnight Draco." She smirked and went to her room, very proud of herself.
