Chapter Three

The next day before class, I caught up with Luke, who was sitting against a tree strumming a tune on his guitar. He looked up at me as I walked by.

"Hey, nice song - really like your sound." He smiled - I'd never seen him smile before. It was beautiful.

"Thanks - do you write?" He asked. "Yeah, a little." "Maybe you could play me something?" He seemed so happy, so different from when I last talked to him.

I sat down and took out my guitar. I strummed a song I wrote a few years ago - not my best, but one I really loved. I could see him smiling, and it made me so happy to see him like that. It seemed I was the only person around here who has ever been able to make him show any emotion - let alone smile.

"You're amazing - really." "Thanks that means a lot." and just like that, it was back to quiet, unsociable Luke. For a moment we just stared into each other's eyes, and I felt I should look away, but I couldn't get myself to. His eyes were a bright vibrant blue, and were so mesmerizing.

And just then I realized - maybe it wasn't just me who made him happy - maybe it was music.
