"I know who he is," I heard Cat Noir whisper from behind me. I stopped dead in my tracks.

"What?" I asked confused.

We had been running in silence for the past five minutes trying to catch up with Mayura. I was sure she was heading to the Eiffel Tower to meet Hawk Moth. Cat Noir's sudden outburst was going to cost us a few minutes. When my eyes landed on him though a shudder ran through my body. Cat Noir's head was bent so I couldn't see his eyes, but his whole body seemed to be emitting a faint dark light. I could see his chest heaving like he was having trouble breathing.
"Hey Cat -"

"Effort will reap success," he voiced softly, "success is sowed with effort,"

I waited for him to explain what he meant, but he just hung his head even more.

"Cat Noir, I- I don't understand what any of that means," I said taking a step closer to him. By now I'd forgotten about Mayura. I've never seen Cat Noir like this. He looked so broken, so out of place. Something in me longed to see his goofy demeanor again.

Cat Noir sighed heavily and sat down on the ground. The dark light around him seemed to fade a bit, but his chest still rised and fell dramatically.

"My father used to always say that. Sometimes he'd say it just to annoy me, just to get away from answering my questions. He'd make me write it down in notebooks. Pages and pages filled with the same lines until it was stuck in my head," he said. He didn't look at me as he talked.

"Okay.. so your father's words just came back to you all of a sudden?"

"No my Lady. I heard Mayura whispering it as she summoned that sentimonster back at the park.

"But isn't that a well known quote or something? She could have read it somewhere,"

Cat Noir shook his head violently. His hair shaking with each toss.

"No. No my father wrote that quote as he did many. He has... a knack for creativity,"

"Oh."

A silence fell between us as I processed what Cat Noir was saying. If Mayura knew the quote that his father wrote that meant that he must be working with her. Working with her could mean...

"D-do you think that..."

Cat Noir sighed again. The dark light had returned stronger now. It radiated off him.

"Cat?" I called softly.

His head snapped up at me and I finally saw his eyes. They weren't green anymore.

"I believe so my Lady. My father...
my father is...

Hawk Moth...

The End.
