Why was she repeating his name?

Oh yes, she had a crush on him when he was her teacher.

"13 fricking years ago" she mumbled beneath her breath, actually she didn't say "fricking".

Her roommate pointed to the swear-jar. (Recently emptied to make enough for a nice dinner for two)

Cleo packed her bags. Books, clothes, womanly (aka. annoying) necessities, did she say books?

Susannah was sitting on the couch watching her with an amused expression. Her gaze didn't leave Cleo as she finished packing.

Cleo stood up and turned around to face her roommate and best friend.

"Would it be too much to ask you to wipe that expression of your face?" Cleo said as she set the suitcase next to the door.

She didn't. Wipe the expression of her face. Instead, she sat on the couch-like normal people- and patted the space next to her, bidding Cleo sit down next to her.

Cleo did and released a long breath.

Susannah Rhodes was her friend in 8th, 9th and 10th Grade. After that, she had stayed in London while Cleo went to the USA for college. As providence would have it though, Susannah got accepted into Harvard Law while Cleo came back to London to study at King's College.

When Cleo got wind, however, of the fact that Susannah-or Suze as she called her- was graduating that month, she booked the first flight ticket she could get and made sure that as Suze walked through those gates, she'd be there waiting in front.

Maybe she would have someone to take her home, Cleo didn't doubt it. Suze was easily one of the most charming people she'd had the chance to meet also her auburn hair and green eyes weren't exactly discouraging either.

But as Susannah walked out and saw her ex-Best friend standing in front of the university, leaning against a Convertible wearing Aviator sunglasses she wasted no time in catching up.

They'd hugged and there'd been some chit chat and then Suze brought up the Elephant in the Room, rather the on the road.

"Not that I'm complaining but uh, why are you here?"

Cleo punched her gently in the arm, "I made a Promise, Dove" she tilted her head so that Suze would get the gist. She did.

"The promise you made 10 years ago in 10th Grade?"

"Yes."

"That you and I would go to your favourite places in the states?"

"You and I", Cleo corrected and said sheepishly, "That is if you, of course, want to go"

Suze laughed as she took off her graduation hat, "Of course I'm going to come, you idiot." She wriggled out of the Graduation Robe and rolled into a ball and threw into the backseat. "A free trip through the USA with my greatest friend" She waved her hands to demonstrate her point-a habit Cleo could remember from 8th Grade-, "as if I'm leaving."

She saw the relief in Cleo's eyes and knew that Cleo wasn't expecting that.

Cleo wasn't expecting to be in someone's company.

This reverie was interrupted when Cleo corrected Suze's statement, "As if you wouldn't go"

Suze snorted as she sat inside the convertible, "what is with the corrections?"

Cleo laughed, "Don't blame me, I just majored in English Literature"

"And I just finished Law School"

"Exactly," said Cleo, "Why we need a break"

That was 1 month ago; their "break" consisted of a week in Denver, Colorado-where the sky was rarely blue but almost every other colour- and a week in Carmel by the Sea-where there had been the most gorgeous end to any summer ever-.

"What do you remember about him?" Suze asked Cleo when she exhaled.

Cleo's eyebrows knit together in confusion, "Why?"

"Come on, Cleo," Suze said "I only know what he was like, not what he looked like"

"13 years is a long time Suze."

"Leticia" Suze said causing Cleo to wince

"You know I hate being called that." It wasn't a question.

"I'm sure you remember what he looked like"

Oh, boy did she.

"He was at least 6 feet-"

"Your type."

"He had a slight beard"

"Your type"

"I thought you wanted to hear this?"

Suze laughed, "Go on Cleo"

"He had Dark Brown eyes. And . . . was always wearing suits"

"Oh my God" Suze said getting up.

"What?"

"You've got a fetish for suits," Suze said matter-of-factly.

Cleo sighed. "Just because a crush of mine, when I was 15, wore nothing but suits" she paused to emphasize her meaning, "Does not mean that I have a fetish for suits"

"Go on." Suze said laughing, "Keep on lying to yourself about that"

Cleo blew a raspberry at her best friend.

There was a pause.

Then they were laughing.

"You'll visit me, won't you," said Cleo

"As long as you visit me." Said Suze.

"Deal".
