I watched Carissa walk away. I know that both of us had changed over the summer. I know this isn't what she wanted for me but shit's fucked up now.
Last year, me and Carissa had gotten so close. It started off as her just being my tutor, then we started hanging out outside of school. She was my best friend. She was the one who talked me into applying to that magnet school and helped me get letters of recommendation from all of my teachers. Except Mr. Gallo who was a dick. I didn't admit it to anyone, not even myself, but I think I fell in love with her last year. She was the only girl who I met who didn't want shit from me. All she wanted was to see me succeed and I let her down.
"Yo Spooky, we got get that done homie." Sad eyes said, reminding me that they were waiting on me.
I turned and walked off towards the parking lot with the homies. We had a few serves waiting on us. I kept thinking about Carissa though. Most girls wanted me for sex or money. Some just wanted the status of being with Spooky. Not Carissa.
But shit's changed since last year. My dad got locked up and now I had to step up and run the Santos. And since my mom chose drugs over her family a long time ago, I had to step it up and make sure Cesar was taken care of as well.
Carissa didn't get that shit. She's never been through shit like this. She doesn't get that I don't have a fucking choice.
So if she can't accept me for who I am, fine. So be it. But what she won't do is try to act like me and my Santos aren't at this school too.
"Yo, Sad eyes. You still got those smoke bombs homie?"
Sad eyes grinned, "Yeah, why?"
I smirked, "We got a pep rally to attend tomorrow."
"I got 80 smoke bombs, how many do you need?"
"More than that."
The homies all laughed.
Tomorrow is going to be fun.
