I ashed my cigarette and walked into the gym with Tony, Santi and Luis. We took a seat at the top of the bleachers. I watched as the dance squad marched their fine asses into the gym. Then the basketball team and football team shuffled in right after.
Where was she? I wanted to make sure I saw her face when the festivities went down.
The newspaper geeks were walking around taking pictures of everything. The gym was packed. Each section divided by class. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.
"Hello my fellow upperclassmen. Hello underclassmen."
There she was. She had finally made it to the podium. She was talking into the microphone shuffling her thought out words on index cards. She had on a yellow dress, wedge heels and had her hair up in a high ponytail. I always liked it when she wore yellow. It made her skin glow.
She continued talking about various things happening this year and expectations from each class. I leaned forward, really staring at her. She was so damn beautiful. If I was being honest, I missed the fuck out of her ambitious ass. I missed her late night phone calls reminding me to be on time for school. I missed her coming over right after school to help me study. I missed watching her while she worked out math equations for me.
She looked up at me and stopped talking. She was stuck. I raised an eyebrow and she kept staring.
What you want to say to me mami?
The principle had to come up and nudge her. She snapped out of her thoughts and cleared her throat. Then began addressing all of the students again.
Sad Eyes leaned over to me, "You ready fool?"
I took a deep breath, sat back and nodded.
Luis handed me a lighter and we began lighting the smoke bombs. We had hundreds of them. As we lit them we started launching them around the gym. They started to fill the gym with colorful smoke. Then Luis' crazy ass started throwing actual fireworks. The entire gym went into a frenzy. All of the students started freaking out and running everywhere.
I couldn't see Carissa anymore, but I could hear her trying to calm everyone down. Then the fire alarm went off and shortly after the sprinkler system cut on.
It was absolute mayhem.
"Oh shit! Man, this is awesome!" Santi yelled as everyone kept running past us trying to avoid getting wet.
We were laughing hard at the scene unfolding in front of us.
Then I felt myself get pushed. I turned around ready to fight. Until I saw who pushed me. "Carissa?"
She sneered at me. She was pissed. She pointed at me with a dripping wet finger. "You! You did this!"
I laughed and shrugged, "Prove it!"
"Ugh! I hate you Oscar! How could you do this!"
She was always so fucking cute when she got mad. Standing there in that yellow dress, soaking wet, I couldn't help what I did next. "The same way I can do this!"
I pulled her up to me, wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her.
