Nova Black never had a great life. Her mother died during child-birth, and her father's alcoholism took over. Trying to make her mother - a woman she never knew - proud, she trained to become a guard. However, with her specific attributes and skill-set, the Ark had different plans.
Nova became the guard's personal assassin. Anytime the Chancellor needed a member of the council or a political rival 'taken care of', Nova was the person Jaha would go to. She also became the last level of training for becoming a guard. The trainee had to beat her to become a member of The Guard.
However, when 99 juvenile delinquents are sent down to a radiation-soaked Earth to see if it's survivable, Nova is sent down because of her skill-set. Turns out, the ground is survivable, and it has been for years. With new threats such as the Grounders and the Reapers, Nova was not expecting to fall in-love with Commander Lexa's right-hand woman, Nyssa kom Trikru.
