Lying on the uncomfortable bed in my cell, my blue eyes bore into the bland grey ceiling. This is a usual occurrence for me, as there's not much to do in a solitary confinement cell, that's about 8 meters by 6 meters. Ever since I started training to be a guard at around 14 years old, I have been locked-up and used as the Chancellor's secret weapon. I have done many unforgivable things in the past 3, almost 4, years, but I have to keep going. I try to hide the pain with my easy-going charm, but it's hard when you have to murder someone in their sleep, or make a murder look like an accident.
The cell door swings open, making me sit-up in my bed. Glancing at the door, I see two guards in full-armor - guns and all - making me smirk slightly. One semi-decent thing about this life is the fear and respect I'm shown. "Prisoner 350. Up and face the wall." one of the guards order, confusing me. Usually, they just drag me up. Anyways, I comply, not wanting to argue. One of the guards place a metal box on the ground. Curious, I quickly glance at it, finding a couple of metal bracelets. "Hold out your right arm." the guard from before orders, and I comply.
Tiny needles stick into my skin as the bracelet collapses around my wrist. Anyone else would wince at the sting, but I've been through worse. Both guards grab my arms and pull me out of the cell. Looking around the Skybox, I see multiple other juvenile delinquents being escorted out of their cells. Those who don't comply, however, are shot with a tranquilizer dart. And those are not fun.
"Move!" a guard holding me orders, as I snap out of my daze. I continue walking until we're brought to a dropship, confusing me. Are we being sent to Earth? I'm handed a jacket and I quickly shrug it on, before making my way into the ship. I climb a ladder until I reach the top floor, where a bunch of other delinquents are already seated with red straps around their upper body.
I take a seat beside a brunette with green eyes, who has a look of excitement on her face. "You have any idea where we're going?" I ask her, curious. "Nope, and I don't care." she states, making me chuckle. "I'm Nova." I extend my hand out for her to shake. "Nova Black." I tell her. "Octavia Blake." she answers hesitantly, before shaking my hand. Of course I know who the girl under the floorboards is, but it's probably a sore subject, so I decide not to bring it up. "Nice to meet you, Octavia." I flash her a pearly white smile, making her smile back with a grateful nod.
Looking back at the entrance, I see a blonde being brought in on a stretcher, before being seated. A few minutes after the guards leave, a rattling sound fills the ship, before we're start falling down to Earth. Suddenly, a loud crash is heard as we enter the atmosphere. I feel a soft hand grip my calloused hand. I find Octavia gripping my hand, frightened by the crash. Noticing what she did, she quickly retracts her hand, making me chuckle.
"What was that?" she asks, confused and scared. "That was the atmosphere." I inform her, earning another grateful nod in return. "Prisoners of The Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable." Chancellor Jaha explains from a monitor on the wall.
"You're dad's a dick, Wells!" someone yells, followed by chuckles and snickers from most people, including Octavia. I, however, just roll my eyes at their immaturity. "Those crimes will be forgiven, your records wiped clean."The drop site has been chosen carefully. Before the last war, Mount Weather was a military base built within a mountain. It was to be stocked with enough non-perishables to sustain three hundred people for up to two years." Jaha explains, and I start to tune out the feed.
