Chester was born in to a family of unsteadiness and impurities. His father was always finding way to get his fix, and mother was constantly working to support the family. Mike woke up every day itching for his heroin, taking his wifes money, going out, risking his freedom and his family. Then coming home fucked up infront of his two boys, Tom and Chester. He never did anything for the kids, just ate, sat in front of the TV, and did his drugs. Tom was only three, and had to take care of his infant brother as best as he could. Stevie had to work three jobs to make enough money, barely spending any time at home, or even with her kids. Coming in after midnight every day, and putting the kids in bed. Never getting a chance to spend time with her family. When Chester was one year old, his parents got a divorce, and he and his brother went to a foster home.
Chester, now three years old, sat in his bed at the end of the room, staring out the window. He watched the birds outside, soaring gracefully through the skyies, beautiful clouds roling by above them. The sun, softly shining across the sky, early morning rays hitting the clouds, turning them a soft yellowish color. All he could do is cry, longing for his mothers arms to wrap around him. He wasn't even old enough to remember her, all he had was a picture his brother gave him on his last birthday. He asked his brother why their dad wasn't in the picture, but Tom couldn't say anything, just give him a hug and tell him he loved him.
As Chester watched the older kids outside playing, he noticed a car pull up, When the woman stepped out of the car, she practically sparkled, her long blue dress flowing in the soft wind, the sequins reflecting the sun. And the man, a nice, clean black suit, with a funny looking tie. They came inside and told the house mother they wanted one kid, the youngest they had. So she went up and told Tom to pack their stuff and get cleaned up, hoping to get Tom and Chester adopted out together. As they waited, the housemother, Sharon, sat with the family, asking them questions. They told her they were John and Jeannie Stalling, They've been trying for years to have a baby of their own, but the doctors said John was sterile, and Jeans eggs were unfertile, so they decided they wanted to adopt.
As Tom came downstairs, holding his brothers hand, the Stallings turned around to see the kid they wanted to adopt. They seemed surprised when the two boys came down wearing light brown dress pants, and stripped button up shirts, looking identicle to each other. John whispered to Sharon and asked that she remembered they only wanted one kid, as Sharon walked over to the boys with a sad expression on her face, she took eaches hand and walked them over to the Stallings. Explaining how they were brothers, and really good kids, telling them everything they've done since they got there, two years ago. She explaimed how she had hoped to influence them to adopt both Tom and Chester, as not to split up the only family they had left. Unfortunately, they were set on only one kid. As they walked out the door, Jeannie holding Chester in her arms, he started screaming and crying for his brother. Tom, grasping Sharons hand tighter, started to cry and waved at his brother, then ran back inside to his bed. The Stallings didn't seem to be bothered, they just got in the car and left.
Chester spent most of his younger childhood trying to be the best he could, John was very strict. In first grade he got his first failing grade, when he got home that night with his report card, things got very bad. When John saw his grades, he was extreamly furious. They went to Chesters bed room, next thing he knew, he was dangling in the air. Johns hand tight around his neck, Listening to John yell and cuss him, all he could do is cry. Jeannie, walked by and heard the crying and faint screams. When she opened the door she was horrified, running up, bauling her eyes out just as much as Chester was. She begs John to put him down, all John does is look at her, then throws him across the room and into the wall. He then looks back at Chester and says nothing, just walks out of the room.
Constantly worrying about what happens at home, Chester says nothing in class, just focus' on his school work, to make the best grades. When he starts to fall behind in class, the teacher says she wants to talk to his parents. Chester doesn't say anything, he just looks down at the floor, already thinking about what's going to happen to him once John hears about this. His teacher sends him home with a letter, asking his parents to come in to talk to her. He showed John the letter, explaining why she wants them to come in. Already noticing the change in Johns face, as he grows a very stern look, He just begins to read.
