9. The Prison Turnabout Trial 1

Sebastian Debeste

September 11 | 9:14AM
District Court | Lobby

I wonder who I will be facing with in court today.

At this trial, I'm alone. Franziska already left the country with Interpol.

It's nerve-wrecking but I have to keep my head high in order for the trial to continously flow properly.

My foot impatiently taps the floor as I wait and sat at the District Court Lobby. The case file layed on my hand and my wand gripping the other.

"Good morning, Sebastian."

My head turned to the voice, "Good morning, Ema." She sat beside me on the large couch on the lobby.

"It's weird, you're alone today."

"It's not. Sometimes you have to be alone to stand firm to face the opponent." I calmly replied to her, not making my posture obvious that I'm nervous.

"No worries, I've got your back." She said and smiled, "Thanks Ema, you are a lot more experienced than I am, I will definitely need some sort of guidance." I honestly told her.

"You're welcome. I used to be a rookie like you, you know. It'll take time but you will grow."

I nodded yet I breathed out a sigh.

"What's with the long face dummy?" Ema and I looked at each other, realizing that it was neither of us, our eyes trailed off towards Kay standing a few distance from us.

"Kay Faraday, shouldn't you be in law school today?" I told her and she shook her head.

"We only have a few weeks left of reviewing for the board exams so we were given the rest of the time to finish school as earliest as possible and we did." She spoke so proudly, my eyes fluttered as my mouth gaped open, "Productive indeed."

"I spent the night studying and that will be my routine for the last weeks, I'll be facing."

"Wow! You're going to be a lawyer soon!" Ema said with her hand covering her mouth that hung open.

"I honestly don't know if I'll be a lawyer, I still have no idea where to go if I do." She explained, Ema and I waited for her to continue, she clasped her hands together, "But that story is for another day, let's solve this case!" She said quickly changing the topic.

"Well alright." I casually responded, a sudden feeling struck me behind my back.

The large doors of the court we were assigned to finally opened wide and people have started to come in. A bailiff approached the three of us reminding us that the trial is about to start. And with that, we entered another challenge that we will be facing.

"The trial for the defendant Hein Ness will now begin." The judge exclaimed pounding on his gavel.

My eyes trailed onto people of the court, the judge, the defendant, and the defense in the courtroom. When I met the gaze of Kay Faraday she gave me a thumbs up and smile. I responded with a nod and a slight smile.
