Opening the door and walking through them had never seemed so hard. Last time my feet touched the school grounds my hand was firmly clasped around Historia's. That was two years ago.
"It's nice to see someone managed to be late for their first day of school," professor's words were obviously directed to me and I wanted nothing else but to flip him off at the moment, "have a sit, Ymir, you'll introduce yourself later."
My feet acted on their own, dragging me into a far corner of the classroom where, I hoped, people wouldn't notice me much.
The moment my eyes fell upon her, I smiled and all my previous nervousness just disappeared. We were in the same class. I was beyond happy. I seated myself right behind her.
"You actually look good in a girls uniform," she laughed teasingly. I closed my eyes and sighed in annoyance, even though I wasn't annoyed at all.
"Yeah, they wouldn't let me wear boys uniform. It's apparently inappropriate for a girl to wears boys clothes. What a drag."The corners of my lips pulled up into a small smile as I thought of her.
"Ymir," a voice snapped me out of my daydream and I realized I had been staring intensely at a trashcan the whole time, "care to finally introduce yourself to the rest of the class or are you going to continue having a stare down with a trashcan?"
Seriously, what's with that sassy attitude? I lazily stood up and ever so slowly walked to the front of the class. Professor cast me an annoyed look at which I simply smirked in triumph.
"Well, what do I say?"
"You start off with things like name, age, gender then tell us a bit about yourself like your hobbies and such," oh this was going to be interesting. I sighed.
"Ymir. I also go by Dancing Giant or D.G which was a nickname my ex girlfriend gave me because, well, I'm tall and I suck at dancing. I'm currently 17 which means I'm probably older than all of you," that's right, I skipped two years of highschool so I'm starting all over again, "I'm a girl," I finally said with a smirk and as I looked up from my hand I've been rubbing for this whole time to look at their expressions and I almost laughed out loud. Girls that have been whispering and giggling all the time while stealing quick glances at me were now quiet, looking extremely disgusted with themselves. What, not so attractive anymore? I held my laugh in as I continued my pointless monologue, "I am also a lesbian. My hobbies are none of your interest and I don't feel like telling you anything else."
While taking another drag of smoke from my lit cigarette, I looked up at the clouded sky, wishing it would finally rain. I had been waiting for rain all day outside seeing as I don't really have anything else to do with my life. Historia is still at school so if it starts raining now she wouldn't be fussing around me and making me go inside.
"You still do that," I sighed and closed my eyes. There goes my last hope of enjoying the rain in peace, "you're gonna get really sick one day."
"I don't care."I really didn't care because I knew she would be there to take care of me. In fact, that was one of the reasons I kept up that hobby of mine. As she left, so did that hobby as it lost its main purpose.
I walked down the classroom and back to my seat. I could feel eyes following me so I turned around to the group of girls that has been staring at me, probably trying to see if I was playing a prank on them or I really was a girl. My eyes narrowed and as I lifted my head up a bit, I stopped by their desks and looked down on them with a best glare I could give them. Apparently, I was scary because majority of them either yelped or backed away. Good.
The rest of the class and other two classes I was in went by quickly without me even noticing it. The reason behind it probably being the fact that I slept through all of them, I only woke up as the bell rung signaling it was time for me to wake up and move my ass to the next class I had. The third class, biology class, I was woken up by a loud thud that came from near my ear and I jolted up, moaning out Historia's name. I didn't even bother to open my eyes. Professor said something about 'no sleeping in her class' and I just lazily nodded before slamming my head against the desk once again, letting out an obnoxious snore just to irritate her. That led me to the situation I am in now. I am sat in the hallway, waiting for the bell to ring and signal the end of the third class period. I am supposed to be holding my arms above my head as punishment but I'm too lazy for that. The only thing on my mind right now is how much time has passed since I smoked my last cigarette. I started calculating how long it will be 'till my next one.
"You smoke too much, Ymir." Historia scolded me, slapping the cigarette out of my hold. I looked at her with an annoyed look in my eyes as I pulled out another pack of cigarettes and opened it. I lifted another cigarette to my mouth and lit it. She tried slapping it out of my hand once again but I grabbed a firm hold of her tiny wrist, "Historia... Stop it."
"It's Christa when we're in public, Ymir."I remember those simple arguments I had with her. I know it didn't seem like it, but those would hurt me just as much as they hurt her, if not even more.
The bell rang. Finally, my cigarette break was here. I didn't bother walking to the cafeteria since I didn't pay for the food they offer us here. I took a walk straight to the door, then to the gate, leaving school. I lit a cigarette and inhaled a smoke as I walked down the street to McDonald's. The food there may not be much but it was cheap so I could afford it. I walked in with a cigarette hanging from my mouth, obviously not caring it wasn't allowed inside. I'll be leaving soon enough anyways. Historia would complain about that too, saying I should respect others a bit more. Bullshit.
"What can I get for you?" Lady working at the counter asked me nicely. Too nicely. I don't like that fake smile of hers either. It's so obvious. I inhaled a smoke and took a cigarette between my fingers.
"I'll have a hamburger." Thanking her as she handed me my order, I left the fast food restaurant.
I dumped a half finished cigarette. It was not worth arguing over with her.
"Thank you," she said,"for once you listened to me. Thank you."
Her voice cracked and she hugged me tightly, almost as if she were to break any moment and wanted me to hold her before she does. I wrapped my slender arms around her and whispered a silent 'you're welcome'.Back at school, everyone stared at me while I munched on my hamburger. Lunch period was still not over and people were still eating, keyword being were. As soon as I walked into the schools cafeteria in hope to be able to buy that tasty looking hot chocolate, everyone went silent. Was there something on my face? There was a loud gasp coming from a girl and as she stood up from a table, I stopped dead in my tracks. There she was, as beautiful as ever, looking at me with those wide, bright blue eyes.
"Ymir?"
