I would be doing some serious lying if I said this isn't fun. As it was pretty late in the day, the theme park was almost empty and we hardly had to wait in line. The first ride we went on was the Ferris Wheel, of course. The entire time Jack was extremely sweet, paying for my ticket, helping me into the carriage, until we reached the top that is.That's when he decided it would be funny to start wiggling in his seat to make the carriage rock back and forth and scare the life out of me. Not that I have a fear of heights or anything, but I'm pretty sure this was a safety hazard and I was not looking forward to falling flat on my face when the carriage finally decides to come off its hinges and fall to the ground. In hopes of stopping him I suddenly place my hand firmly on top of his which sends shivers all over my body. Just like that the shaking stops, so does the laughter as Jack looks over intensely at me. For the first time since meeting him, I am unable to hold eye contact, my eyes shy away under his captivating gaze.
I know it's stupid, it's not like I can deny the chemistry between us. Or even better, make it disappear. I just don't want to give into something that will create more trouble than good, considering he could never give me what I need. Love, trust, stability? It's like the opposite of what he represents. I cough awkwardly to ease the tension and remove my hand from his. I'm grateful that he looks away. Luckily the ride comes to an end immediately after and we are free to get off.
"Where to now?" I ask.
"How about I go win you a huge teddy bear at one of those stalls" he smirks.
"How about I win myself a huge teddy bear?"
"Sure, you can try"
I pretend to be offended by his response and try to conceal my smile.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I say, attempting my best sad puppy eyes.
"Well..." he starts, and walks off in the direction of a stall where I notice old tin cans lined up. I assume these are supposed to be shot with the toy guns that the worker provides. Jack hands him some cash and in turn I pick up one of the toy guns, (which are heavier than I expected by the way), and start aiming.
Jack moves to stand behind me, and as he slowly places his hands on my waist my brain automatically reacts by internally spinning in circles faster than the tea cup ride besides us.
"It means that something in me refuses to believe that a girl like you, so sweet, gentle, kind.. could ever know how to shoot one of these." He whispers in my ear making absolutely every hair on my body stand straight. It's like he's trying to drug me with his existence or something.
"Okay let's make a bet then" I say firmly, thankful that my voice didn't come out all 'affected-by-him'. "I shoot all the cans and you promise to never 1.break into my house 2.pull me out of school 3.kidnap me ever again" I propose. "which by the way are just basic human-" I continue but he cuts me off.
"Okay okay. And if I win..." he hesitates for a while thinking about it.
"I get to spend the night with you"
I almost choke. But instead I just sort of settle on a scoff and mild heart palpitations. I quickly spin my head around to face him "You cant-I've already told you I'm not going to sleep with you".
"Im not asking you to fuck me"
I cringe at his explicit choice of words.
"just asking for one night with you"
"but-" I start
"afraid you might lose?" he asks and I can practically hear the mocking cockiness in his voice.
