What Did We Do?

Chapter 3

"She should be dead!" Fluctus's voice came wafting out of the open window. A female- Mortuus?- tried to calm him down.

"Shh. Last time you got this angry you blew Planet 436 up. Just a question though? Are you angry with Chaos for lying, or her?."

"Chaos of cou-" Fluctus begins, but the female cuts him off.

"Save it. The window's open. Hasn't ten years with Chaos taught you anything?" She crosses to the window and as she closes it I see her. It is Mortuus.

As I resume my journey towards Ancient Greek two questions go through my mind.

Who this 'she'? And why should she be dead?

At Ancient Greek I see two of the warriors- Heros and Sidus maybe? My suspicions are confirmed when the taller of the two speaks.

"Hello, I am Heros, and this is Sidus. We are here to watch you teach, if you agree." The way he says the last sentence makes it sound like a threat, not a question.

"Um, I guess..?" Something about Heros makes me uneasy, like he can read my body language as easily as an open book.

"Very well. When will your class begin?" Sidus asks me. She speaks very formally, like English isn't her first language.

"Um, soon... Oh, here they are now." When everyone is seated, I start talking. First I introduce the warriors.

"Okay class, this is Heros, and this is Sidus" I say, indicating to them, "They are here to watch me teach, and you learn. So let's greet them, shall we?"

"Καλημέρα Heros και sidus" my class says dutifully.

"Okay, today we are doing colours. Repeat after me. Green is πράσινος. πράσινος."

"Green is πράσινος. πράσινος." The class repeats.

Over the next half an hour, my class learns the colours of the rainbow in Greek. Finally, I hand out sheets for homework and dismiss class. As I make my way to Heros and Sidus, I see Blake, a 7 year old from the Apollo cabin, talking to Heros. As I approach them he scurries off.

"Is it true that the reason you teach Green first is that your boyfriend's eyes were that colour?" Heros asks me straight away.

"You cannot just ask her that!" Sidus swats his arm.

"Yes I can!" Heros yells, "I was just asking!"

I smile a little. It is SO obvious that they like each other! My smiles fades when I remember his question.

I hang my head. "Yes" I whisper.

They freeze. Sidus gives me a hug while Heros makes his excuses and leaves.

"I am honestly so sorry for your loss. I may be the Primordial of maidens, but I know true love when I see it. What you have with... What's his name?"

"Percy. Percy Jackson." I whisper. She gives a barely audible gasp but continues.

"What you have with Percy is true love. I know this just by seeing how distraught you are over his disappearance. I don't know him, but I'm sure he is just as upset as you are, wherever he is." She sure is good at speeches. But wait...

"Cut the crap." I cross my arms.

"What do you mean?" Oh haha. Playing innocent are we?

"You know Percy. I can tell because you gasped when you heard his name. You probably met him when you were traveling the universe." I'm fairly certain in this.

"Fine. We met Percy on Planet 749. He said that his family and friends let him go peacefully. They understood that he wanted to wander the universes." Her brow furrows in confusion. "That's not true though, obviously." Hmmm... Someone has lied to my boyfriend. And I'm going to find out who it was. And kill them. But first I need to find him. And I know someone who might be able to help.

"One of your group is Primordial of Death?"

"Yes, Mortuus, but-"

"No buts. Can she summon the dead?" She needs to give me answers, pronto!

"Yes, but-"

"Do you know Zöe Nightshade? She was killed trying to save me." My eyes well up, remembering the horrible events.

"Yes, but-" Please stop with the buts!

"Can Mortuus summon her? Please? I need to pay my respects, and she might be able to help me find Percy. Please?"

"No. Not directly. Mortuus might be able to send her to you in a dream though." Thank the gods.

"Oh, thank you! I'm so glad you can help me!" I start to walk away, but a thought occurs to me.

"You said that there's more than one universe?"

She laughs. "Oh honey. There are more universes than brain cells in that pretty little head of yours."
