When they made it back to the impala Dean walked to the drivers side and opened the door a smirk slowly making its way on his face. He was thinking about how he knew exactly what Castiel wanted him to do with the machete without even saying anything.
"We make a pretty good team, you know." Dean said. Its true though he's never thought about it until now but they really do. He slides into the front seat with Castiel following a few seconds later.
"I've always thought so." Castiel replys. They glance over at each other until Dean decides he can't handle the silence any longer. He clears his throught bringing Castiel back from wherever his mind was drifting.
"We should celabrate. I saw a bar a few miles back towards the hotel we should check it out." Dean puts the impala in drive and turns it around until they are headed back in the direction they came from.
The ride is silent except for the rumble of the engine. Its a comfortable quiet though like they could sit in silence for hours together and it never be awkward or boring.
Its so peaceful that Deans mind drifts to things he doesn't normally think about, like what would his and Sams life be like if their dad hadn't went missing. Maybe Sam would be a lawyer, married and have a couple of kids. Maybe Dean would be married too. Maybe he would have a normal apple pie life like he sometimes thinks about. But if that had happened he would never have met Charlie, Garth, Keven, Castiel or any of the friends they have now. Maybe it hasent been the life Dean thought he would have but its not any less happy and he deffinently hasen't missed out on any of the family drama.
He is so deep in thought that he almost forgets to turn into the bars parking lot. The parking lots not much its more like a dirt road with places where you can pull off the road.
"You ready?" Dean asks. He looks over at the angel only to meet Castiels bluer than blue eyes. The street light above them was shining through the window directly into Castiels eyes which was why his eyes were almost glowing blue. Dean didn't know why but he couldn't look away. He was so entranced by them that he forgot where they were, what they were doing and everything that had happened to them in the last few hours. All at once his feelings attacked him. His stomach was churning and his hands were starting to shake.
Without thinking about it they both started to lean towards each other until their noses were only centimeters away from brushing against each other. Dean could feel Castiels hot breath on his face and it was all beginning to be to much for him.
"Cas." Dean wispered. Castiel looked into Deans eyes. Which only made Dean wish he wasn't about to say this even more.
"What is it Dean?" Dean paused and looked away.
"I can't do this." He looked back up and searched Castiels eyes for an answer but couldnt find a single emotion. After a few seconds passed castiel finally spoke.
"Why?" Was all he said.
"Because, Cas, your my friend and I dont want to ruin that." Castiel didnt understand and he felt like dean was lying to him but he didn't want to question him further and risk making him angry.
"I understand. If that's the way you want it." Its deffinently not what Dean wants but its what he thinks is safe. What he wants is to tell him how much he cares for him how much he needs him in his life how much he loves him. But the truth is he's afraid to love him because he doesn't want to loose him. Everyone Dean loves he usually looses. His mom, Bobby, Charlie, Lisa and Ben and even Sam have all left him one way or another. So of course Dean would rather stay friends with Castiel than to lose him for good.
The silence was no longer peaceful like it was. Now It was awkward and you could feel the tension in the air. Dean didn't want things to stay this way he wanted them to go back to the way they were before things were weird before he almost kissed his best friend.
He regrets asking him to go to the bar, maybe they should have just went back to the hotel and went to sleep and avoided this whole thing but since they were here they might as well have a few drinks. "I don't know about you but I need a drink." Dean chuckled even though there was nothing funny about the situation they were in. " Yes, I think that would be good." Castiel agreed.
