Nikki got on the bus, putting her hood up. Max gave her his hoodie before they left for the last day of camp. She remembers it clearly.
"Here.." Max said blushing slightly. Nikki looked at him and he held a hoodie. His hoodie. "What's this for?" She asked. Max shrugged. "You know..to remember me.." He said looking away. Nikki smiled. "Thanks, Max." She said her face blooming with pink.
She had got in her mothers car, waving away as it drove off. Max had looked so sad. She leaned back sighing, and looked at the map. "It's not that far.." She muttered to herself. "Where are you heading, little girl?" The driver asked. "To see my friend." She said looking up from her map. "Where?" Nikki shrugged. "Sacramento." They were in Los Angeles, California. Nikki looked at her map again. "Would you mommy like that?" The driver asked. "First off, I'm 11, so stop treating me like I'm four. Second off, she's the one who gave me permission." She lies. The driver scoffs. "Quiet an attitude, huh?" Nikki smiled slightly. "Sometimes." The driver laughs. "Tell me about your friend." He said. Nikki slid to the front row so she could hear him better. "Well, his name is Max.." She said. "He can be a real sour puss. But, if you get to know him, he's so sweet. He can be bossy..but, I like that. He has the most greenest eyes anyone could ever want. They're so sparkly if he's in a good mood. Which isn't that often.." she added, laughing slightly. "And his hair. It's so puffy and soft. He let me touch it only once, when we were alone. His tan skin looked so smooth. There were bags under his eyes, but that made him look cooler! There was one time..he..he mad me cry..he sounded so awkward..and he tried to make me feel better...he did in the end..I looked at him when I stopped crying. He looked like her felt bad. Like he was concerned. Like...he cared about me.." Nikki smiled softly. "He was different around me when we were alone. He was kind and funny and treated me like I was someone special. He..He had a big heart. Just hid it behind a shield. Well..That's Max for you.." The driver smiled. "He sounds like me when I was your age." He said. Nikki shrugged. "I can't wait to see him.." she said looking at the map again. "And I'm ready..."
