I am skipping school because Nikki is way more important. I take her to my house and I give her a cup of milk. "What are you doing here?" I ask. It's quiet because Carly is in Daycare. "I came to find you. School sucks." I snicker. "How?" Nikki looked away. "Mean girls. I have no friends. Actually, I do. But it's a teacher, so it doesn't count." I blink. Mean girls? "What do you mean by 'mean'? Sasha's 'mean', or "I hate you so I'll hit you' mean?" Nikki sighs. "Both." I feel a bit angry. "Girls hit you?" Nikki nodded. "But not enough to cause damage."  She says quickly. I look down furrowing my eyebrows. Because, damn, I could've stop them..."Are you okay?" I ask. She nodded again. "Yeah, of course." I hug her. I don't hug many people. But I've hugged Nikki two times now.

"What's this for?" She asked. I shrugged. "Just because." Nikki hugged back. "Are you going back home?" I asked. "Soon. Not trying to make mom worry. Much." Her voice was cold. "Is your mom a problem too?" She shook her head. "Just...being a mom." She looked at me. "What about your parents?" I look away. "They're okay. Just...busy with work." Nikki stares at me. "Is that why they didn't show for parents' day?" I look at her fast. "You know?" she rolled her eyes. "Max, you made a big scene. Everyone knows." I grumble. "Anyway..." I said. "You're going back home."
