< I deserve to be happy, and I really want to do this. I don't want to rot here, I want to live. Joan and Odette will be fine on their own, their dad will take care of them. Besides they're almost 18. I know I promised them to stay with them, but I've been here since I was eight and even before that I was imprisoned in that man's house. Still I did promise them. But I want to be happy, and they'd understand.>

For weeks Reine's mind was filled with thoughts about leaving Arkham. No being able decide between keeping a promise or live life to the fullest. Almost all of her told her to leave and be happy, but a small part didn't want to break her promise.

During those weeks another inmate joined Arkham Asylum, her name was Barbara Kean. Even though she'd joined Sionis' gang Reine befriended the girl. Maybe it was because she liked her hair, or her diva attitude that closely resembled hers, or the fact that she informed her about the new fiancee her step-father acquired. In any sense Reine enjoyed her company at times, and Barbara saw Reine as a daughter or a little sister.

They were in the cafeteria, Reine and her sisters sitting at their table playing cards while Barbara got her nails painted by Sionis and one of his gang members. Jerome sometimes sat with Reine, always annoying Sionis, but this wasn't one of those times.

"Odette it's your turn." Reine told her sister who was hiding her face behind a book.

"Sorry.", she said in a squeaky voice.

"What are you reading today?" Joan asked her.

"The Phantom of the Opera."

"Isn't that a musical?"

At that moment a new inmate came in, he was a chubby man with a weird hairstyle.

"Greetings! I am Zaardon the Soul Reaper."

Everyone went back to their business, not paying him any mind.

"Yes, but it comes from it's based off a book. It's one of my favorite french literature."

"I prefer Notre-Dame de Paris.", Reine chimed in.

"Well it's all up to personal preference really."

"Hear me, slaves!", everyone turned their attention back to the new inmate, "My patience is wearing thin. Surrender your souls to my mercy", he walked on top of the empty table in the middle, "-or I swear by the Master, I shall feast on your pain! I shall gorge on your torment! I shall crush you like a bug."

He was about to start laughing, but instead coughed. He dropped to his knees then onto his back. That's when a blue smoke started coming out of his mouth. It started filling the entire room, everyone started passing out, except three inmates.

"Jerome!" Reine rushed to his side, but he had already passed out.

"What's going on?", Odette asked.

Then they heard an explosion and the alarms going off. Reine walked back to her sisters.

"Pretend to be passed out."

"What?", Joan's eyes widened.

"Just do it."

They sat in their table pretending to be unconscious. They heard noise around and the temptation to take a small look was unbearable for three them, but if the people knew they were awake they might kill them. Their hearts were racing, chills ran through their spines, goosebumps all over their bodies. Reine was the first one to look, to see if the coast was clear, it was. The people were gone, and so were Sionis' gang.

"They're gone."

Odette and Joan proceeded to get up.

"What happened?", Odette asked.

"They took Sionis and his gang."

"Reine, I'm so sorry."

Reine barely heard her sister, her mind was racing with a million thoughts at once.

"I'm leaving."

"Excuse me?"

"I'm going away, from Arkham, right now."

"You can't be serious."

"Extremely."

"Reine you're being crazy, stop it. You're not leaving.", Joan spoke up.

"I am leaving and you're not stopping me."

"You're being childish. You promised to stay here with us, we made a plan."

"You'll be fine without me. Also you two can leave anytime you want, have a normal life, just by asking your dear old father. I don't have that, the only family that gave me protection or hope of a normal life is dead! This is my chance at a life. I have to go, but we'll see each other again, I promise."

"Then you better not break this one.", Odette told her sister with tears in her eyes.

"Go to our rooms and take one thing to remember us by."

Reine gave them a hug before racing out of the room. She went to her cell, she put some of  her things in a pillow case, then went to her sisters cell and took one of their things like they asked. She ran as fast as her feet could carry her, out of the Asylum that had been her home for about eight years.
