ALFIES POV
Yawning from the past 25 hour flight, I stepped out of the family car (that was covered in dust from the roads in New Zealand) and pulled down the gold door handle, leading into our old-new house (it was the same house as the one we lived in 10 years ago). something caught my eye as I took in the nostalgic surroundings and plonked down my bags. An envelope of some kind was sat in the middle of the coffee table at the end of the hall, surely we hadn't have got any post since we moved? I padded over to the wooden structure and ripped open the envelope as carefully as I could - I had never been great at opening envelopes. It contained a rectangular piece of a card, with a dotted aqua blue border. I slid it out of the surrounding envelope and read the text printed in the middle:
'Put on some smart clothes and head down to the town hall by 7pm.'
That was put in a way only one person could have written it, leaving me grinning and heading upstairs to unpack and follow her instructions.
ZOES POV
Negative thoughts were going round and round my head as I pulled up to the town hall to do some finishing touches to the party. I really do hope he likes it.
The sound of seagulls shrieking goodnight to each other filled the navy blue sky as the guests started to turn up, one by one. I was wearing a sparkly gold collared vest, tucked into dark blue shorts and slightly see-through black tights, since I didn't really like showing off my legs (and it was quite a chilly late summer night). I had quite smokey dark eyeshadow on and my hair was in a high, messy ponytail.
"Zoe?" a somehow-familiar voice broke my thoughts as I heard a door shut from behind me. I knew who it was instantly. Tears started to threaten my mascara as I slowly turned my body towards a tall, slim man, a mess of brown hair on top of his head and a slight smile curling the top of his lips.
"Alfie,"
We both immediately fell into each other's warm embrace, tears spilling down our cheeks. It seemed like we held each other forever as I silently welcomed him home.
Something had changed; I felt different about him. But in the best way possible.
ALFIES POV
There was the girl I have missed for over 10 years. The girl who used to stand up for me when I felt threatened. The girl who I loved.
Wait... what? How could I love her? We have been friends for over 14 years, I could never ruin our friendship like this. But still butterflies were pounding on the walls of my tummy and it felt like I was going to explode.
I've decided. I'm going to tell her.
*2 hours later*
Zoe and I have been constantly chatting and I feel like I've never left at all from the amount of detail in her speech. (I've also told her all about New Zealand so I can't really speak)
Every other guest was busy having a blast in the loud and crowded room so I figured this was the perfect time to tell her. Thankfully neither of us were too drunk.
"Zoe? Can I talk to you about something?"
"Sure!" she replied with a cheeky smile.
I gestured for her to follow me and we slipped out of a door leading to a corridor towards the toilets and stopped in a corner of the hallway.
"What was it you wanted to tell me?" Zoe asked me as we leaned against the wall.
"Um..." I took a deep breath. "I just need to tell you something to get it out of my system. But the problem it could ruin our friendship and one of my biggest fears is losing you. You brighten even the dullest days and I - and I'm sure everyone else - can't help but smile when you're around. I know this is cheesy as hell but every word i say from this point on is the absolute truth, remember that okay?"
I paused and cleared my throat. The only noise was the sound of our heavy breaths, taking in what I was saying. We were staring into each other's eyes and I swear a little smirk was pricking the corners of her perfect lips.
"Zoe Elizabeth Sugg...
I am in love with you."
