Donghyuck finally stopped the car by the side of the boardwalk and quickly got out, rushing to Harin's side to open the door for her.
She beamed at him and nodded as a 'thank you.' Donghyuck intertwined their hands once again and they started walking towards the actual beach.
Harin could already hear the waves dancing about, it was like music to her ears. The air felt a bit humid and tasted of salt, but nonetheless, she felt a sense of calmness being in the presence of Donghyuck and walking in a place he had put so much effort into bringing her to.
The two soon walked amongst the shoreline, the street lights of the boardwalk illuminating them as the moon watched them behind the dusty clouds. A comforting silence enveloped them, while the waves were fighting for a chance to touch their feet.
Donghyuck was first to break that silence.
"This beach is probably my favorite place in the entire world," he started, grinning from ear to ear.
"I basically grew up swimming in its waters and building sand castles that would always get washed away because I built them too close to the waves." He chuckled at the memory.
Harin stared in awe at the beaming boy. His eyes twinkled brighter than the stars in the sky as he talked.
"Why would anyone want to leave a place like this? If I were you, I would have never left." Harin jokes.
Donghyuck nods in agreement.
"I didn't want to leave, but I had to when my parents got divorced," he swallowed.
"I moved to Seoul with my mom, but I come back here whenever I can because I miss the sand between my toes… and I want to keep the memories that I made here as alive as I can."
Harin's eyes soften upon hearing his story, feeling awful.
"Do you still talk to him? Your dad?" She asked, looking at the boy.
Donghyuck jaw clenched at the mention of his father and Harin felt like she was invading his privacy, opening her mouth to apologize.
"No. I don't want to anyway. He's the reason my family is broken and he's the reason my mom is in so much pain, even to this day. I don't want to talk to him anytime soon." He said, eyes glazing with anger.
"I'm sorry for bringing it up." She mumbled, biting at her lip.
However, Donghyuck shakes his head at the response.
"Don't be. There's nothing to be sorry about… I think it's about time that I tell someone about this," he confessed.
Harin only blushes at his words. Her stomach twisted at the fact that Donghyuck was comfortable enough to tell her about his worries.
"You can tell me anything… I'll always be here for you." Harin smiled at him.
His grip only tightened around her hand.

After walking and talking for what felt like hours, the pair stopped in front of a secluded part of the beach. It was filled with various rocks and large boulders, the sound of waves crashing upon them, droplets of water landing on their clothes.
"This right here, is the best spot in the entire beach." Donghyuck exclaims.
"It looks really dangerous…" Harin trails off, quite unsure as her stomach twisted at the thought of falling or getting dragged by the water and into the abyss that was the ocean.
She held his hand as tight as she could, refusing to let go while he helped her up on one of the bigger boulders.
"That's why it's the best, babe." He said, plopping himself right next to her. The girl blushed at the pet name.
Donghyuck seemed to sense Harin's nervousness, thus, pulling her body to his chest, resting his chin on top of her head.
"What do you even think about when you come here?" She mumbled, looking at the moon peeking from the clouds.
"Anything and everything. Whatever is on my mind at the moment."
Harin could feel the vibrations ring in his chest as she hummed in response.
"What's on your mind right now?" She inquired, shivering slightly as Donghyuck's fingers lazily drew random shapes on her hip.
It was quiet for a moment, the serenity of the ocean was the only noise that could be heard.
"You… How breathtaking you look under the moonlight. How your eyes crinkle up when you smile at me. How you blush when I compliment you... How much I don't want this day to end."
Harin feels her heartbeat fasten at his words. She was sure he could listen to the thumping of her heart if he paid attention closely. Her wide eyes look up to find him gazing at the distance.
"It- It doesn't have to end." She blurts out, placing her hand on his jaw to turn him towards her.
He looked down at her glazed orbs, a faint smile painted across his lips.
"It does," he whispered.
"Why?" Harin could hear her voice crack.
Donghyuck stopped drawing circles around her hip, now he only strengthened his hold.
"Because I can't make you happy." Donghyuck's voice was hoarse and that tugged at her heart.
Who was he to determine what made her happy or not?
"Hyuck, being with you makes me happy." Harun tried, grazing her thumb above his cheekbone. The constellation of tiny moles on his face reminded Harin of the stars painted across the navy blue sky.
He only shook his head.
"No… you deserve real happiness… you don't deserve me, I'm not good for you, I'll only ruin things between us."
Donghyuck seemed to look anywhere, but Harin's eyes.
"You won't."
"You don't know that." He emphasized.
Harin sighed at his reluctance and dropped her hand to her lap, turning to look at the moon. Trying to distract herself from feeling the burning sensation within her throat. Donghyuck had gone back to grazing his fingers above her hips. Perhaps he was trying to comfort her, and a part of Harin appreciated the action.
Just then, a bright white streak of lightning filtered through the dark night sky. A thunderous boom following right after causing Harin to practically jump into Donghyuck's chest.
His loud laughter ringing in her ear as she hid her face in the crook of his neck.
"Hm, let's get back to the car before you get scared and fall into the ocean." Donghyuck teased.
Harin pouted at his taunt.
"Who knows? You might take me down with you."
"Hyuck!" Harin whined at the boy.
He chuckled, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of her head.
"I'm only teasing, love."
