“He was being an asshole,” Amanda’s best friend Amethyst or Amy as she preferred to be called was saying. “What did you expect me to do, Manda?”
“Not kick him where the sun don’t shine.” Manda mumbled as she flipped through her chemistry book.
“But that’s not any fun.” She smiled at me her large ocean blue eyes blinking innocently.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “So true.” It had been funny seeing the guy fall on the ground screaming a higher note then he should.
She continued on about how man should have proper manners and I phased out.
It was a nice morning, a slight cold breeze, sweatshirt weather. You could practically smell the rain that was on its way. I personally couldn’t wait.
I brushed the little curls out of my face as the wind blew.
“And I don’t get why you keep your hair up,” Amy snapped her fingers in front of my face to get my attention. “I mean really your hair is gorgeous. Since when did you see those chemic heads with color like yours.” Chemic heads was Amy’s name for people that dyed their hair. “Have you seen your hair?” Stupid question I looked in the mirror every day. “It’s got red highlights to the extreme, almost as if you’re on fire.” I rolled my eyes, sounded stupid to me. “And your curls! I absolutely love your curls. There like the untamable ocean.”
“You’re untamable.” I mumbled.
“Damn right, ain’t no asshole going to push me around.” I winced slightly, reminders were not needed. “Ohhh, Manda, I didn’t mean to bring up that.” Amy deflated from her confident normal self and became the caring best friend I let in. “I’m still sorry I didn’t figure out about Gr—“
“Don’t say his name,” I snapped my voice more powerful. It took me a moment to realize I had wrapped my arms around my waist, to protect myself. I was trying to break that habit. “Not only was it not your fault but it was a year ago.” A year ago today, she had gotten rid of him for me. I was free of him and he was never coming back. He wouldn’t dare not with Amy with me.
“Hey, little sis,” The familiar voice called from behind me. I turned to find my handsome twin running up. All the girls, including my best friend watched as he ran up to me. Asher was tall, muscular and as Amy liked to say sexy as hell.
I didn’t see it. But that might be because I was his sister.
“What?” I asked calmly and sat back against the large stone steps that made up the front of my school.
“Guess who is coming today,” he said almost too fast. Luckily I was used to the way my brother talked. “Come on you have to guess.”
“Uhh I don’t know Tom Felton?” I asked almost hopefully.
“No,” he growled and rolled his storm grey eyes that matched mine exactly. Thinking about it we had the same hair as well. His dark mahogany hair was mine. We even had the same smooth tan skin, too.
“Did you even hear me?” Asher asked. I shook my head and stayed silent. “I said that Zander is coming here.” I tried to remember who Zander was but I was drawing one of the biggest blanks I ever had.
“Zander?” I asked and almost regretted it. The look on Ash’s face could kill. “Oh Ash, I think I remember but I’m just not sure.”
“No you don’t,” He glared at me. “At least I remember your best friend’s name. Right Ashley?” the look on her face nearly killed me. I knew she liked my brother even if she wasn’t willing to admit it. But the fact that he didn’t remember her name probably killed her. Especially considering the act she had sleep over the other night and I had called her name out twenty or more times.
“It’s Amy actually.” She turned away and pretended to search for something. Then it hit me. I remembered Zander or more accurately, Alexander Van Stone, my brother’s best friend since pre-K. The one that had made it his duty no his life goal to see me tortured. It wasn’t till last year that he just disappeared from school and no longer talked to my brother.
“I thought you two didn’t talk anymore.” I said and grabbed a hair tie and quickly put my long hair in a messy bun.
“Not much,” He checked his phone and then looked at the parking lot. “But were still best friends, always will be.” I heard a dull roar of an engine and Asher’s face lit up. “And here he is.” I turned and all that came out was a rush of air.
There was an armored County Detention Center van pulling into the lot and the van didn’t just stop as more of slam on the breaks.
The doors were jerked open and two officers got out equipped with shot guns. They held something, stick like, in their hands but from how far I was back and my bad vision I couldn’t tell. It didn’t help that everyone was crowding in to see what was happening.
The officers went around the back where again I couldn’t see exactly what was happening but I could tell that those stick things were involved.
A figure got out of the back, a tall muscular figure.
There was quite a bit of talking between the officers and the person before they finally released the handcuffs that were around his wrists.
There was a break in the crowd as the figure, now I could tell it was a boy, came across the lawn and started toward us.
The guy walked as if he owned the place and as if he deserved respect. I glared at him as he continued to get close.
It wasn’t till he was close that I realized just who this was.
Same chocolate brown hair and the same hypnotic chocolate brown eyes, this was Alexander. He was back, my brother wasn’t going crazy.
Zander was back, and I could tell right off the bat he was here to take my brother away from me and make my life a living hell. He hated me with every fiber of his being and I had no idea why.
I quickly gathered my stuff grabbed Amy by the arm and pulled her away.
