"Greetings, Your royal Highness. You said, bowing. I hope you enjoy your time here today with us."
"What a well mannered child you two have bought up," the King said. "You should be very proud."
Your parents beamed with pride.
"Come Y/N, sit down next to me"and your mother, your Father said.
You went and sat down.
The next hours were extremely boring as the meeting went on and on. You began to zone out and daydream about Char. What was he doing now? Does he know you like him? Does he feel the same way? Maybe one day we would get married and live happily ever after.
"So, what do you like to do, Y/N?"The King asked you.
"Huh?" You said, dazed.
"Y/N!" Your mother hissed in your ear hole angrily. His Highness is talking to you. And don't say "Huh" to the King!"
You jumped out of your daydream and back to reality. Did you really say "Huh" to the King?! You blushed scarlet and quickly apologised to the King.
"That's quite all right, the King said. Allow me to say my question again: What do you like to do?"
"Um, I like to (insert what you like to do here)." You said, still embarrassed.
"Hmm very good I'm sure you are a very talented young snake."
Just then, Char came in with the cake on a trolley. It was a beautiful cake, with white icing and strawberries on it.
Wow, You thought Char must have really spiced up the cake while I was gone.
"Greetings, Your Majesty, Char said nervously and politely. On behalf of all the staff, I would like to welcome you to this noble household. And we hope you enjoy this humble offering of cake."
"Thank you, servant." You may go now." Your Father said.
Char quickly turned to leave the room before he was stopped by The King.
"Wait a minute, he said. Don't leave just yet. I want to thank you for this lovely cake. What is your name, servant?"
"Char", Char said poiltely.
"How long have you worked here, Char?"
"(Insert your age minus 5 years) Years, Your Highness.
"And how old are you?"
"I am (What ever age you are here) years old, Your Highness".
"So you have you been here nearly your whole life? Where's your family?" And you don't need to call me "Your Highness"at the moment."
"My Mother is dead and my Father is working on the pyramids."
"How come you are a servant then?"
You already knew the answer. But would Char want to say it? He was always sensitive around that topic. Would he tell him the truth about what he thought about their society? Surely not right?
Char panicked inside. What could he say? He couldn't tell the King that he thought their society was terrible, corrupt and unbalanced! And that the real reason he was a servant was that his Father didn't want him to live a life of hard work and labour in the boiling sun all day everyday. He wanted to provide the best life for his son that he could but since the pyramid job didn't pay very well, he couldn't. He had to give up his child to either the workhouse or a life of servitude. He chose servitude. So, when Char was old enough, his father applied to a noble household for a job for him and his son. But there was only one spot left in servant's quarters so he gave Char the spot and he went back to work on the pyramids. Even though Char was very young, he still remembered his father and knew that he loved him.
Tears began to prickle in Char's eyes as he remembered this.
"Is something wrong?" The King asked.
"No, no. I just got something in my eye. Dust, I think. You were saying why am I a servant? Well, my father didn't want me so he gave me away." Char gabbled. He mentally kicked himself for saying this. How could he have said that?! His father was a lovely, kindhearted snake and loved Char very much. He didn't want to give him up: he was forced to. Why oh why did he say the first lie that came into his head?!
"I see. That's very sad. You seem like a very nice, well mannered young snake. Now, if you will excuse me." The King said, turning around to face your Father.
Char breathed a sigh of relief as your mother told him he was dissmissed.
The meeting started up again and you were back to being bored.
A few hours later, the meeting was finally over.
"Goodbye, Your majesty. It was an honour to have you here." Your Father said.
"Wait a minute, before I go I would like to talk to you about something else privately".
Your Father ushered you out of the room so they could have another business talk.
How does father not get bored out of his skull in all these meetings? You wondered.
You were curious when you heard Char's name been mentioned, so you put your ear hole up to the door and listened.
You could just barely make out what they were saying.
"Yes, yes he's a very fine servant." Your father was saying. Ironic, considering the fact that he was complaining about him just a month or so ago. You thought.
"I'm sure you will love having him as your servant", your father continued.
Your heart dropped as you heard this. Was your father going to sell Char? You didn't want to jump to any conclusions so you kept listening.
"And here's your gold. Thank you for letting me take him. I will return for him in a day, you heard King Mambo say.
You heard them get up and slither towards the door. So quickly slithered upstairs to your room, lay down on your bed and cried. Why? Why was this happening? Maybe it's just a dream, you thought. You pinched your scales. No, no I wasn't.
You could hear your father and King Mambo in the kitchen talking to Char.
What does he think about all this? You thought.
You heard the front door close and with that, the King was gone.
You wiped your tears and stood up. You only had a day left with Char. You were going to make it the best day ever.
Well, that's a sad twist, isn't it? Let me know if I made any mistakes! And tell me what you think in the comments!
