The next day, after finishing school, you went downstairs to have dinner with your family. You quickly ate everything down so you could spend as much time with Char as possible.

"Goodness, Y/N, what's the hurry for?" Your Mother asked you.

"Sorry, Mother. I was just so hungry and I have some homework to do." You fibbed.

"Alright then. Nice to see you caring about school for once. And don't eat so fast in the future. It's impolite. And also, try to be more careful when you eat. Look at the state of your mouth! It's covered in food!

"Yes, Mother." You said, wiping your mouth with a napkin.

After finally getting away from your Mother's lectures, you went to the kitchen to find Char.

Char was currently on his hands and tail cleaning the floor. He was humming a serpentine lullaby to himself.

You suddenly slithered over to him and hugged him, sending you both hurdling across the room on the slippy floor.

"Y/N?! What was that for?!" Char said, confused. Though by the look on his face, it looked like he already knew what you were about to say.

"I'm sorry! Here, let me help you up." You said, getting up onto your tail and then offering your hand to Char, who gladly took it.

Once you were both standing, albeit now wet and soapy, you looked at each other before you started sobbing.

"Oh Char, I can't believe that this is happening! Why oh why does King Mambo want you to be his servant?! I don't want you to go!" You wailed.

Char looked at you sadly, tears starting to pickle in his eyes.

"I don't want to go either, Y/N. I wish I didn't have to go. I wish my father was here with me and not slaving away everyday on the pyramids!" Char said, voice getting louder, angrier and more hysterical. "I wish that this corrupt society would crumble to the ground! I wish that King Mambo would die and-"

You quickly covered his mouth with your hand before he could say anymore.

"Shh! If anyone hears you saying that, you're a dead snake!" You hissed, remembering what happened to a servant from one of the other noble houses who spoke badly of the King.

You shuddered at the thought of that happening to Char.

You then removed your hand from his mouth when you felt him sigh and relax.

"I'm sorry, Y/N.  I'm just so frustrated at this whole situation! I feel sick thinking about working in the castle under the King's watchful eye. One mistake, and I'm dead! And, to top it all off, I won't know anybody there and will have nobody to turn to for comfort like I can with you or the other servants, the ones that like me anyway." He vented.

You pulled him into a hug, which he returned immediately.

"You won't make any mistakes, and if you do, the King won't kill you, he'll probably just give you a scolding or something. He likes you, Char. You said, trying to reassure him.

Char hugged you harder.

"Thank you, Y/N. Thank you for always been there for me. You're the bestest friend I could ever have. Even with our social classes been miles apart, you still wanted to be friends with me. You're right, the King likes me, for some reason that I don't know, so I probably won't get executed for incompetence." He said, bringing tears to your eyes at his words.

"You don't need to thank me, Char. If anything, I should be thanking you. Without you, I would have lead a miserable childhood." You replied.

You both gently released each other from the hug.

"There's gotta be a way for us to keep in touch or see each other. Maybe if my father gets summoned to the castle, I can go with him and then spend some time with you then? No no, that won't work. Even if I did go with him, there's no guarantee that we would be able to spend time together." You said, trying to think of a solution. "Oh! I know! We could write to each other!" You said excitedly.

"That's a great idea, Y/N! But, where would I get the paper and ink from? And how would I post them to you?" Char asked.

"Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. I can give you a big stack of my writing paper and some bottles of ink before you leave tomorrow." You said, the 'leave' stinging you. "As for posting, we can strike up a deal with the mailsnake to deliver our letters to each other and keep quiet about it. He'll want some coin in return but I'll pay for it." You finished.

"Brilliant! The Mailsnake is always looking for ways to make some extra cash, so he'll definitely agree!" He said happily.
"Oh Y/N, I'm so glad that we'll be able to stay in touch, especially since I-"

Before he could finish, your mother's voice boomed through the house.

"Y/N! Where are you?! You said you were going to go and do your schoolwork but it's still on your desk untouched! I swear, if you're hanging around with the servant folk again, you'll be for it!" She said angrily.

"Uh oh, the mistress sounds ticked off! You better go, Y/N, before she sees you in here!" Char worriedly said.

"OK, I'll come by later on tonight when mother's asleep and fathers engrossed in his work!" You said.

"Y/N!!!" You mother yelled from across the house.

"I better go now. She's worse than those angry chickens if you keep her waiting!" You joked.

"Y/N! Don't say such things!" Char said, grinning and trying to muffle his laughter while you slithered as fast as you could out of the kitchen and then to where mother was.

She glared at you when you approached her.

"Y/N! Where have you been?!" She looked like she was about to explode.

"I-I was in the bathroom mother, taking a shower!" You fibbed hoping she might buy it since you were still a bit wet and soapy from falling on the kitchen floor.

You hoped in vain.

"Don't you lie to me young man/lady! You were hanging around that Servant Boy again weren't you?! He's a bad influence. Thank goodness he's leaving tomorrow! Maybe you can finally make some proper friends!"

You felt rage building up inside when you heard her say that.

"Shut up, mother! Don't you dare speak about Char like that! He's the kindest, most thoughtful snake in Serpentine Valley! Maybe all of Ninjago!" You yelled at her.

You mother froze, stunned by your outburst but quickly recovered, a disturbing look gracing her features.

"HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT! GO TO YOUR ROOM AND DON'T COME OUT FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT!" She roared, as you quickly slithered into your room and locked the door, afraid that she would hit you or worse.

You then went over to your bed, grabbing your favourite book from the bedside locker along the way and began to read.

It was going to be a long evening until everyone was asleep, and until you could see Char later on tonight.
