I looked at Peter, curiously. Then I realized that he was looking past me. I turned and cried out.
A wolf!
He was much bigger than any wolf I’ve ever seen before. It took a step towards us and I let out another cry. Peter grabbed me by the arm and yanked me up so fast it hurt. I wince in pain and I saw the wolf flatten its ears in anger, and bear his teeth. Peter gripped my arm and started running as fast as he could.
“Peter, don’t run!” I shouted at him. He ignored me.
I turn around slightly to try and catch a glimpse of the wolf. He was running at high speed towards us, howling loud and angrily. He ran right through town but no one noticed him. How was that possible? I was about to scream and let everyone know but then I saw him jump through a car.
Through a car.
He was a spirit. How could Peter see him though?
We ran out of town and towards my house. When we were out of hearing range from people I yelled, “Stop, Peter!!” and dug my feet into the ground.
He yanked my arm, “NO! Are you crazy?! Move it!”
I struggled against his strength. “He’s not a real wolf, Pete! He’s a spirit! Let me go! He needs me!” my words surprised Peter and his jaw dropped. I have to admit, they surprised me too. Never have I felt the need to help a spirit so badly. Each step I took away from the wolf my heart ached more and more.
It...burned.
Peter then grew angry at me. “You’re crazy! I’m not going to let him hurt you! They always hurt you!”
My eyes began to tear as he half dragged me to my house, “No! Peter, he needs me! He needs me!”
The wolf howled and went through me to get to Peter. He grabbed my friend in his jaws and shook him, then threw him aside and stood over him. His bared his teeth and growled loudly, then snapped at his face.
I was too shocked at the wolfs behavior to realize that the spirit was able to touch Peter. I had never seen a spirit touch a living thing before, not even me.
I ran to the wolf and grabbed his tail, yanking it hard in a desperate act to get him away from my best friend. “No! Don’t hurt him! Don’t hurt him!!”
The wolf turned and snapped a me too. I closed my eyes and screamed as his teeth caught some of my reddish-brown hair and winced as I one of his teeth scratch my cheek. It was a shallow cut, and didn’t hurt much, but when I opened my eyes again the wolf was staring at me. His eyes were full of...regret. He took a step towards me again but I took a step away from him. I was so afraid I was shaking, but...being so close to him made me feel...so...calm.
His purple eyes were so calming....
The wolf let out a low whine, then turned and ran away.
