I wrapped my fur cloak around me tightly. It was so cold outside, my body was shivering and my teeth clanked hard together. I wrapped it closer and tied the waste rope so it wouldn’t blow open again.
The night wasn’t very dark since the moon was full. I looked out onto the pale plane and sighed. How was I supposed to find the wolf?
I continued to walk, remembering earlier when the wolf was able to grab Peter in his monstrous teeth. All my life I had seen spirits, all my life they would either make me laugh or scream, but never had they ever touched me, nor I them.
The thoughts were disturbed as I tripped over something, falling with a thud, cutting my arm on something.
I sat up and examined my arm. It was not a deep cut, though I wondered what I had cut it on.
A cloud had moved in front of the moon, so it was more difficult to see, but I ran my hands over the ground in looking for what had scratched me. Perhaps I could use it as a weapon. But I gasped as something stabbed my curious hand. Just then the cloud moved out of the moon’s way, and when the pale light shone I saw what had pricked my hand.
The Bone’s were laying around me. I had fallen in the middle of them; I had scrapped my arm on one of its rib bones, and poked my hand on one of its spine spikes. I stood up at once and walked backwards, away from the broken pile.
Then, I heard something from behind me. It sounded like a gasp. Then I turned and saw him.
He was standing so close, less then a stones throw. He was staring at me, a confused expression on his face. I smiled and said in a shaky voice, “I-It’s alright,” I took a step forward, but the wolf whined and took a step away.
“Don’t be afraid,” I cooed in a soothing voice, although it shocked me that this giant creature should be afraid of anything! I walked close to him but the wolf pawed the ground and whined more, as if he was desperate to get away but something was holding him there.
My heart started to beat fast as I got close, and the burning feeling came back. I could feel my heart beat in my ears, my breath coming out in short burst. I couldn’t understand why it was happening.
Soon I was so close to the creature that I could have reached out my hand and touched his nose, but instead I said, quietly, “What do you want?”
It shook his great head, and then looked at me with those piercing purple eyes. He looked in such distress that I took a step back. I felt as though I was causing him pain, so I walked back towards the Bones since there was a large stone I could sit on as I waited for the wolf to calm down. But the wolf darted past me,and stood in my way, preventing me from going any further.
Just then, the moon flashed. I jumped and looked up at the sky, and what I saw took my breath away. I was staring up at the aurora, and it danced across the sky. The colors were magnificent and bright; purple, green, blue, pink, yellow, and many more! Then suddenly it quivered and shot out like an arrow, straight at the wolf. I let out a scream of surprise as the wolf opened his mouth and swallowed the colors! His eyes glowed white, then all at once they cleared and were purple again. The magic that had taken place faded, and I was left staring open-mouthed at the wolf.
And then he spoke. “...Can’t...don’t go near...Bones.” His voice was strained and it seemed as thought talking hurt him, but he continued. “Evil...he was. Must not...go near...”
Then I realized what he was talking about. I gasped and said, “You...you knew that creature? What was he? Where did he come from?”
He shook his head, his body shuddered. “Evanour he was....he...was created. I...know not what...he was, or what he...was to be. He...ran from...his master. Killed, drank...the blood of...all creatures. Feasted on their...bodies.”
I shuddered. To think, this creature was once a live. Once alive in my very own town, “What happened to him?”
“I...killed...him...”
I gasped and took a step back from him.
His voice was broken and sad as he said, “Fear me not...please...please...little girl.”
I sighed and tried to keep my voice level, “Well...I suppose he was evil. So it isn’t so bad. But let’s not think about that right now. I must know, why are you here? What do you want from me?”
He sighed, and took another deep breath. “...It is...leaving me. Can only answer...one question.”
I took a step forward, “What is leaving you? Tell me!”
He ignored me and said instead, “I...need...you...”
