After I got home, I sat down on the kitchen table listening to my mom scold me while I was drinking a glass of water. She kept telling me that I was irresponsible and a spoiled boy. In all honesty, I was amazed because she wasn't even mad about the fact that I had gone out. She was mad because I didn't tell her I was sleeping outside the house.

"I was with Scott and Violet, nothing happened... at least nothing bad", I said with a subtle laugh.

"Don't be funny. They are not going to save you". Said my mom while she slightly smacked me in the head. "Go get some sleep and then get ready for the memorial service. We are leaving at eight o'clock. Don't be late"

As she finished her sentence, I went to the bathroom and washed my face. I had so many memories going through my head. Having a threesome with my best friends, the body bag shaking and jumping incessantly. I've never seen something like that. White eyes just like that kid from school. It kept me distracted the whole time we were at the car on our way to the memorial service.

Even though the celebration it's only allowed to happen once every ten year. The memorial happens every year at the same day, at the same hour. Father would always remember us in a grim tone. "It's Memorial Day", he'd say.

It was always the same. One of the new founding fathers would give a speech, reminding us of the atrocities of the Great War. Then, the history teacher from our school, reminds us of the incidents of the great war year by year. "2010, the appearance of the first bio-nuclear womb. 2015, Korea hits America with nuclear bomb, millions of dead. 2016, Russia creates the first controlling-weather system. 2016, Russia lunches the system successfully. 2017, China creates a device powerful enough to send earthquakes throughout the entire planet. 2018, the great war begins with the death of president Barack Obama..."

The list goes on forever until we get to our year.

"2078, peace rules this world. The benevolent beings at the Island have provided us century and have restored peace. Ending the war for good".

It is weird to hear it, 2078, a year never though would exist, much less after all the devices created by the nations. Our history teacher tells us that, the average life span had been reduced to 10 years after Russia created their system. I couldn't imagine living in a world like that. We are all grateful for the founding fathers, even more for the land that we have.

They are a mystery. We rarely see them, yet, they have control over the 5 tribes that compose this country. 5 of them, one for each tribe. Marco controls the main tribe. The tribe in which me, Scott and Violet live. He is the supreme leader. Much like a president in the times passed. He has full control of the tribes and everything that sprouts from there.

Fio, she is the controller of tribe 2, the ones in charge of import and export. Born and raised in the tribes, se horse up to her role when her mother died and had to step up.

Eri. The leader of science in tribe 3. Located where it used to be the center of the country, the capitol. She is in charge of every scientific development as well as health in the community. She is living proof of the atrocities of the war.

Tarma, the vigilante. Born and raised in military camps, he took charge of his position when one of the old founding fathers tried to destroy everything due to his madness. He is in charge of security and patrol in all the district, though hi main quarter lies within the depths of tribe 5.

Lastly, Leona, she took on her role when she gained popularity for her revolutionary advances in agriculture. She is able to grow plants in the most arid places, including the winter desert.

We owe ourselves to them. Because of them, we are able to breathe. After the service ends, our father always takes us to a fancy restaurant and shows himself more sentimental than usual. He remembers his family. Lost in the ashes of the war. He mourns and then he loves. Mother has no recollection of the war. How could she? She was still 6 years old when the war ended. She and her mother managed to escape and enter the tribe before it closed its borders.

The only thing me and my siblings can do is nothing but comfort them. We remind them that they have us and that we will never leave their side.

"Thank you, we love you so much", says my father with his head down.

"You can always count on us", says my brother, Mark.

We sat there eating for hours. We laughed, we joked and then we fought a little. Typical family issues. My sister kept reminding my mother about my absence yesterday.

"You should have at least called", said my sister with a very serious look on her face.

"Well I didn't, and I already apologized", I replied. "It's none of your business":

"Cut it!", yelled my mom as she kindly and softly smashed her hand on the table. "This is not the time nor the place to fight! We are going to end our dinner quietly", said my mom, ending the discussion.

We finished our meals and jumped in the car. On our way back, I received a text message from Scott; "Are you going to ever talk to me again?", with a wink emoji.

"I thought you were avoiding me...", I replied with suspensive dots.

"Wanna come by my house?" he asked as my heart pounded fast. "I'm playing some combo extra. Wanna join?", he insisted with a crazy emoji.

I stopped for a moment and thought about my options which were very limited to be honest. My heart was racing, every single time pounding even faster and harder. I remembered his body against mine. His sweat coming down his back. Our bodies colliding into a cloud of confusion and excitement.

"Okay, I'll be there in like 30 minutes", I answered, and then I realized my reply.
