Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of madness, would that therefore be okay to say Fej was mad or maybe still in the first stage of MDD(Mental Disorientation Disease)? Why do I say this you ask? Cause firstly we're not friends and secondly he went behind my back and got permission from my dad to come over and thirdly, when he arrived he acted like a co owner of the house eating whatever he liked under the guise of Ulcer cramp, seriously?"How do you do that? You have to teach me"
I rolled my eyes "Its not teachable"
"Everything is teachable"
"Yes,to people with normal brains"
"Cool, so that means I qualify"
"Ughh". I tried to ignore him.
We were working on our literature assignment at my place, a little test our teacher put in place to see how we could use the figures of speech she'd been teaching us but Fej being the...well... "being" that he was needed help with his not that he was bad at it but he just lacked every skill for it. I'm talking rhymes and imagination he had none, his poem looked like a science article on particles and atoms and stuff you know, how little they are and still have great importance in the universe and all that stuff...lame. I left him to it seeing how happy he was with it but he won't let me finish asking me to teach him every single rhyme or phrase I use.
"That goes with the third line but rhymes with the second, why? " he asked"I'm using a rhyme scheme I read somewhere. Immediate lines don't have to rhyme it could be alternated some how" I said trying my best to explain to him something I had shallow knowledge of
"Wow...when you say it like that it sounds so difficult" he said with a smirk
"Idiot" I said under breath
"Read mine" he said handing out his work to me. I took it and just skimmed through. I could almost feel how much he loved this science stuff.
"How do you know so much about these things"
"What? wave or particles?"
"Umm Yeah " I said not understanding what he just said"
"Watch it,read it,browse it,live it,breath it"
"Its okay, even though its kind of all science and not actually having a figure of speech"
"It does look..." he said pointing out a few.."as small as,as fast as, dancing and ....there's more if you read it"
"I see" I paused for a while "Fej"
"Yes"
"Why do you want to study law?"
************************************************
"Why do you want to study law?"
He had a quick emotionless look for a second and switched back to his joyful self"Because....I like it" he said and quickly looked away
"Do I need to ask again?"
He shrugged "Well, you'll get the same answer".I waited for a while to see if he would budge but he didn't so I went back to my work.
"It's for my Dad..." he said "...I have family issues to handle for him"
I kept writing but allowed my mind to wonder into his world trying to imagine what it feels like to study a course for my Dad"So when you become a lawyer and you help your dad out with his 'family issues, lets say you win, what next?" I asked. He had a blank expression on his face like a light bulb just came on in his head
"Uhhh,I guess I'll find a job" he said in a question kind of tone "I never really thought about that"
I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time."You should think more often. Look I'm sure your father can get himself a lawyer whenever he pleases"
"Its not that Ife,it's more than just, you know what never mind"
Here comes the awkward silence #sigh
"Left to you what would you like to study?"
"I don't know" he said truthfully. "I mean I'd like to be a scientist". I was a bit pissed by his vague reply.
"That is the most ambiguous reply any soul can give knowing that there're over a hundred type of scientists"
"I wish I knew but I really don't,maybe a chemist or a physicist or an astronauts or,or..." he said and sighed lightly "I should probably just stick to being a lawyer"
I decided to push a little further. "So you're living your life for your father?"
"If it makes him happy, proud of me,Yes"
"What do you mean proud of you? "
"Its a long story,I won't like to talk about it"
"Please" I said in my most polite manner
"Wow,that's the first"he said
I rolled my eyes AGAIN"My dad likes my sister so much, had great expectations for her" he said
"You have a sister,I never knew, all this while I thought..."
"I HAD a sister" he said putting emphasis on the 'had'
Whoaaaaa"Oh,umm sorry" another awkward silence "what happened to her?"
He remainded mute just staring at his book"Fej" I called out "Fejiroo"
"I can hear you"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah,I should go home"
Whoaa, that was intense. Do I stop him, I should probably
"I'll see you off" I said even though I wanted to hear the whole story. He look at me for like five minutes,(not accurate five minutes,I mean the Nigerian five minutes you grab?Of course you do)
He packed his stuff into his back pack"Thanks for having me over" he said still packing his things
"I guess I'm supposed to say you're welcome but that would be a lie" I said truthfully,I mean he invited himself so...he's not welcome
He smiled "Thanks anyway" he said and zipped his bag. "We'll see in school"
"Sure thing, let me at least see you out"
"Look at you,my good manners is rubbing off on you"
"And you ruined it" I said
