Sequel to Spin The Bottle
I can’t believe we did that," Kyungsoo said. They were a few blocks from Jongdae’s house, all four of them clearly trying to recover. Baekhyun was shuffling along, still holding her phone and staring at it with wide eyes. "Are you alright?" she asked her.
Baekhyun started when Kyungsoo poked her. "I think so?" she said tentatively.
Junmyeon looked somewhat sheepish. "I’m sorry. I’ve hung out with Jongdae’s friends a few times, and I knew Lu Han’s tendencies, but I didn’t think she’d suggest-- that."
"It’s alright," Chanyeol said. Her eyes were focused far off, and she seemed thoughtful. "Jongdae is sweet, his friends were just a bit rowdier than we’re used to. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. We could use a bit of harmless fun. None of the girls at our school are any fun."
"Easy for you to say," Kyungsoo snapped. "You were having a grand old time." Chanyeol grinned at her, and she huffed. "But Baekhyun and I have been traumatized! Lu Han is sweet and dainty but those boys-- those boys were monsters."
"Kris sucked on my tongue," Baekhyun said in a small voice, blushing bright red.
"You poor thing." Kyungsoo patted her on the back.
"Sounds like a good kiss." Chanyeol side-eyed her. "And what did Jongin do to you exactly that was so traumatizing?"
Kyungsoo bit her bottom lip. "He-- he has a dirty mouth." A very pretty dirty mouth. The memory of what he’d said to her made her blush, belly feeling warm.
Chanyeol raised an eyebrow and Junmyeon looked at her curiously. "That doesn’t sound bad. Did he put his dirty tongue in your mouth?"
Kyungsoo shook her head. "He didn’t kiss me, he just-- said stuff. And teased me."
Chanyeol nodded sagely. "I see. He got you all hot and bothered and left you like that. So now you’re grumpy."
Kyungsoo bristled. "I am not hot and bothered," she said. "Or grumpy."
"He is very good-looking," Baekhyun ventured, before withering under the look Kyungsoo gave her.
Junmyeon was suppressing a smile. "Lu Han says he’s good at kissing. Maybe next time you’ll find out, Kyungsoo."
"I do not want to lose my first kiss to a hooligan like that, thank you very much," Kyungsoo retorted primly. They’d reached the bus stop by then, all four of them taking a seat on the bench. There was no one else around, and Kyungsoo picked imaginary lint off her skirt so she wouldn’t sit there thinking about being locked in the closet with Jongin again. About actually kissing him.
"Well, I had a good time," Chanyeol said. "Thanks for inviting us along, Junmyeon."
"Yes, thank you," Baekhyun said. "It was fun, even though I got mauled. We should hang out with them again."
Kyungsoo pressed her lips together. Traitors. She was surrounded by traitors.
Her bus came first. She stood and waved at her friends as she boarded. They all looked at her in this knowing way, smiling, and it made her stick her tongue out at them. Chanyeol had the gall to laugh.
"See you on Sunday!" Junmyeon called.
The bus was quiet, and her brain immediately began replaying the minutes she’d spent in the closet. She scrubbed her hands over her face, squirming uncomfortably in her seat. Her reaction to Jongin had been unexpected and downright embarrassing. There was still a tender ache between her legs, and he hadn’t even really touched her. She was mortified to think what would’ve happened if he had actually kissed her.
"Stupid boy," she grumbled. "Stupid stupid stupid." None of the boys from church made her feel this way. Hyunsik was cute and he made her stomach feel swoopy, but that was different. She wanted to do things with Jongin she didn’t want to do with Hyunsik, things she was most definitely not supposed to do.
The bus left her a block from her home, and she jogged the rest of the way, working some of her energy off.
Her mother was in the living room. "Hey, sweetie," she said when Kyungsoo came in, "how was your day? You were out a bit late."
"I was with my friends," Kyungsoo said, not stopping. "I am going to take a shower." Her mother’s bewildered silence followed her all the way to the bathroom.
Kyungsoo shed her clothes and stood under the cold spray of water resolutely, shivering and trying to get herself to calm down. This was all so ridiculous. Beyond ridiculous. She was a good girl, with a level head, she was not about to be undone by a boy she’d known for only a few hours and barely had any interaction with. The fact that his general existence had affected her so deeply was disturbing. But boys like him had perfected this sort of thing down to an art, and she was not going to be one of those girls who fell for it.
"I’ll avoid him," she muttered as she towelled off. She was freezing but felt calmer, more determined. "I’ll avoid him and if he tries any of that husky whispering hooey on me again I’ll break his face."
She flopped down on her bed, wet hair fanning out. With any luck, she’d never see him again.
----
Kyungsoo glared balefully at her friends. "Why are you doing this to me?"
"Doing what?" Baekhyun asked.
"Our Tuesday boba date is supposed to be just us four, as a-- a girl time sort of thing!"
"We go to an all girls’ school," Chanyeol pointed out. "All we ever get is girl time."
Kyungsoo lapsed into grumpy silence. It was after school, and the four of them were on the way to the mall, to their favorite bubble tea cafe. Her friends had rudely waited until Kyungsoo was on the bus on her way before informing her that Jongdae and his friends were coming along too. Kyungsoo wanted to fling herself out of the window.
"Lu Han’s coming?" Junmyeon ventured. "And Zitao and Sehun might be as well, so it isn’t just the boys."
"Also I wanted to see Kris again," Baekhyun said, and Kyungsoo gaped at her. "I mean, he wants to go on a date with me, but, I don’t know, I’d like to talk to him in a group setting before going out with him alone."
That made a lot of sense, Kyungsoo had to admit, but still. They were throwing really big wrenches into her Avoiding Jongin plan. It hadn’t even been an entire week yet, and she’d been having enough trouble keeping all thoughts of him shoved into the back of mind as it was.
"Is this about Jongin?" Junmyeon asked her, and Kyungsoo bit her lip instead of answering.
"You should just make out with him and get it over with," Chanyeol said to her. "It’s obvious you like him."
Kyungsoo made a disgusted face. "I do not. Who knows where he’s been."
There was a pause before Junmyeon said quietly. "There’s nothing wrong with wanting to kiss someone. I know when Jongdae and I first started-- doing that-- I was nervous about it. But it’s nice."
Chanyeol nodded. "Kissing is nice."
"Very nice," Baekhyun added.
"You’re all traitors," Kyungsoo said. "Besides, Jongdae is sweet. He wouldn’t-- he likes you, Junmyeon-- he isn’t going to take advantage of you." Junmyeon blushed. "Jongin is-- is--" Kyungsoo searched for the right word, "he’s a playboy. He just wants sex. He’s the type of boy we’re all supposed to avoid like the plague."
Chanyeol shrugged. "Only if you want to. I don’t think you should do stuff just because it’s what people expect of us. If you want to kiss him, then kiss him. You don’t have to do more."
I want to do more, Kyungsoo thought, then flushed bright red and shut that line of thought down. This was the problem. If she gave him a little bit, she’d let him take the rest too. And that thought was frightening. She’d never thought she was that kind of girl, never had been before.
"I don’t want to kiss him," she said loudly, and a few people on the bus turned to stare at her. She turned even redder as Chanyeol began to laugh.
----
Lu Han, as it turned out, was a bubble tea addict. Sehun as well, which took Kyungsoo by surprise. Sehun didn’t seem like the type to drink bubble tea. She seemed more like the type to barbecue kittens.
They’d all already been there, by the time Kyungsoo and her friends got there. They’d shoved three tables together so they could all sit and chatter. Kyungsoo sat between Junmyeon and Baekhyun, refusing to look at Jongin. He didn’t have his tie on again today, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone. Kyungsoo didn’t understand how he got away with his wearing his uniform like that. But then again, Zitao had piercings and Sehun’s hair was pink, so clearly their school was rather lax about dress code.
Kyungsoo chewed her boba angrily. To her left, Baekhyun and Kris were talking. It sounded like she was chattering his ear off, as per usual. To her right, Junmyeon was in a conversation with Jongdae.
"Are you okay?" someone asked, and Kyungsoo looked up to see Minseok staring at her in concern. "You look like you’re in pain." Luhan broke off in her conversation with Zitao to look at Kyungsoo as well.
"I have a little stress headache," Kyungsoo said. It was true. "But I am alright."
"Do you need painkillers?" Lu Han asked. She was already rummaging around in her cute pink bag. "Here." She gave Kyungsoo two small white pills.
Kyungsoo smiled shyly at her. "Thank you."
"Theology was particularly tedious today," Chanyeol said. "That’s probably why."
Kyungsoo hummed in agreement and washed the pills down with her drink, but in reality she didn’t think her headache was caused by that. It was probably due to forcing herself to not look at Jongin when her eyes kept trying to be drawn to him.
"So," Lu Han said, chewing on her straw. "When are you guys going on a date?"
Everyone blinked at her and then swivelled their heads to stare at Kris and Baekhyun. Baekhyun blushed bright red and mumbled something, looking down at her drink. Kris sighed and merely shrugged his shoulders in response.
"You have to take her out on a date!" Lu Han said, scandalised. "You mauled her in a closet!"
"I did no such thing," Kris said.
"Uh, we all saw her hair," Zitao said. She was sitting between Kris and Sehun and she leaned over to waggle her finger in his face. He pushed her away with a frown. "Monster."
"Pervert," Jongdae supplied.
"Man without honor!" Lu Han cried. "Take her on a date!"
"He--" Baekhyun blushed even harder, if that was possible, and paused before continuing. "He said that he would."
"Kris, you dark horse!" Lu Han said, delighted. "You never told us!"
"Because I knew you’d react like this," Kris said, scowling. "Just, fuck off, would you all? I don’t want to talk to any of you." He turned his chair so that he was facing only Baekhyun, who looked surprised by this turn of events but not entirely disappointed.
Kyungsoo shook her head disapprovingly and looked around the table away from them. She regretted that immediately as her eyes fell on Jongin watching her. She flushed and tried to look away but it was too late.
He leaned across the table a little. She braced herself for something dumb. "Are you okay?" he asked in a low voice.
She blinked at him. "What?" she asked, confused.
"Your head," he said, still in that low voice. He sounded almost concerned, she realised.
"Oh." She chewed her bottom lip, shrugging stiffly. She didn’t want to talk to him, and she certainly didn’t want him being nice to her. "It’s fine, it’s not the first stress headache I’ve ever had."
He chuckled a little, sitting back in his seat and bringing his drink up to his mouth. "Yeah, I would have figured that."
She scowled. "What’s that supposed to mean?"
"You seem like you get stressed really easily. Like you’re always wound up." He leaned back across the table, grinning at her in a way that made her breath catch. "I can help you with that."
She gaped at him and then blushed again as she caught his meaning. "I don’t need your help with anything!" she cried. "Particularly not -- whatever it is you’re suggesting!"
He raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?" he asked. "I’ve been informed that my methods are very... thorough."
"Mmmm," Lu Han interrupted, talking around her boba. "He’s very thorough."
"I’ve only ever had exceedingly positive reviews," Jongin smirked.
"I don’t need anything from you," Kyungsoo said in a strangled voice. "Except maybe to be left alone!"
"Well, that’s no fun," Jongin grumbled. "I’m just trying to talk to you."
"No, you’re not," Kyungsoo hissed. "You’re trying to -- you’re being disgusting, I don’t want to have anything to do with you."
"You heard the girl," Lu Han said. She made shooing motions with her hands at Jongin. "You go wave your dick at someone else and leave the girls to talk."
"I hate you," Jongin told her, and turned towards Sehun.
"Not me," Sehun said with a shudder. "I don’t want your dick anywhere near me."
"Can we all stop talking about my dick," Jongin said tiredly.
"Oh," said Lu Han innocently. "But you never stop talking about it." Jongin growled at her, while Chanyeol laughed.
Kyungsoo could feel the heat in her cheeks and she turned away from Jongin so that there was absolutely no chance that he could catch her eye again. She was horrified to find that her brain was thinking about what Lu Han had said; it was obvious that she and Jongin had slept together at least once before, and Kyungsoo almost wanted to ask her about it. Maybe if she heard what it was like, she’d stop remembering that shock of pleasure in the closet, stop waking up in the middle of the night with a deep aching between her legs.
Maybe she’d stop catching herself staring at his mouth, like she’d just caught herself doing.
She sucked at her drink, glaring at everyone and cursing her life. Kris and Baekhyun were still talking, neither of them seeming to notice anyone else around them. Jongdae and Junmyeon were whispering together in the corner, a little secluded from the rest of them. Chanyeol and Lu Han were talking, both of them laughing loudly, and Kyungsoo got the feeling they were flirting. Sehun, whose drink had been bought by Zitao, was pointedly ignoring any requests from Zitao for a sip.
She glanced quickly at Jongin and away. Thankfully, he seemed to have given up on her and was trying to engage Minseok in conversation. She seemed as endeared to him as Kyungsoo was.
"Where’s Yixing today?" Kyungsoo asked, mentally patting herself on the back for saving the poor girl from a creature like Jongin.
"She has piano class," Minseok said with a shrug. She started counting off on her fingers. "Cheerleading on Monday and Wednesday, piano on Tuesday, SAT tutoring on Thursday, MATH TUTORING on Saturdays." She shrugged again.
"Oh," said Kyungsoo. "She’s...very busy."
"She has overbearing parents, is what it is," Minseok said. "It’s a shame, she likes bubble tea. I’m going to take her some after her class but it’s not going to be the same."
"We do this every week," Kyungsoo said awkwardly. "Maybe -- if she’s free next week, she can--"
"Are you inviting us back?" Jongin drawled. "And here I thought you wanted nothing to do with us."
"I want nothing to do with you," Kyungsoo snapped. "Yixing -- I liked Yixing!" Yixing hadn’t tried any funny business in a closet, for one thing.
"And me!" Lu Han said, suddenly appearing out of nowhere to drape herself over Kyungsoo. "She liked me too!"
"Get off her," Jongin snapped.
"No!" Lu Han cried, clinging harder. Kyungsoo couldn’t hide her smile. "You can’t make me!"
Jongin stood up, presumably to pull her off Kyungsoo, but Lu Han shrieked so loudly in fear that Sehun yanked her off before he could reach. "Shut up," Sehun grumbled. "I don’t want to get thrown out."
"Yeah, this place is nice," Zitao said. She snatched up Sehun’s drink and managed to dodge the pinch at her side. "At that other place those guys who work there always look at me weird."
"You’ve got a face full of metal," Jongin said, "and half your hair is missing."
Zitao gave him a petulant glare. "Nobody fucking asked you, Jongin."
"I’m just saying, they’ve got a legitimate reason to stare," Jongin protested.
"I think her hair looks great!" Chanyeol said brightly.
Zitao laughed suddenly and tugged on Kris’s arm. "You hear that?" he asked, ignoring the scowl on his face at being dragged from his conversation with Baekhyun. "Chanyeol said she thinks my hair looks great."
"It makes you look like some sort of weird bird," Kris said stonily.
"What about Baekhyun’s hair?" Lu Han asked slyly. "I think it’s very pretty."
Kris gave her a cool look. "It is," he said simply. Baekhyun made a soft noise of surprise.
"I think Kyungsoo’s hair is pretty nice too," Jongin interjected.
"Urgh," said Kyungsoo, even as she felt her cheeks warming.
After that there was more conversation, Kyungsoo being dragged into it even to the point of laughing at something Jongin said. A couple of minutes later she realised he was watching her with a weird smile on his face, an intense look that left her flustered, a look similar to the one he’d given her after their time together in the closet.
It made her uncomfortable, and so she couldn’t say she was altogether disappointed when Minseok announced that she was going to go pick Yixing up now, and there was a general consensus to head home, Baekhyun apologetically saying to mostly Kris that she had homework to get done. Kyungsoo let out a breath of relief at the thought of escaping Jongin’s presence again. She could feel her headache returning.
"We’re going to see a movie on Friday!" Lu Han chirped, grabbing onto Junmyeon’s arm. She seemed to have realised that Junmyeon was the one most likely to agree to do things. "You guys should come with us!"
"What movie?" Junmyeon asked curiously.
Lu Han rattled off the name of some B-list action movie that Kyungsoo had little interest in seeing. "Sehun wants to see it!" she said.
"I do not," Sehun said. "You want to see it because you fancy the lead actor."
"Oh," said Lu Han, "right."
After much wheedling from Baekhyun and Junmyeon on the way to the bus stop, Kyungsoo eventually agreed to go. "But," she grumbled, as Baekhyun enthused her thanks and threw her arms around her, "you’d better make sure I don’t end up sitting next to Jongin."
----
Jongin’s arm was resting on their shared armrest, and Kyungsoo glared at it, steadily glancing higher until she was glaring at his stupid, serene face. He was seemingly too absorbed in the opening credits to notice she was trying to glare his eyelashes off.
Kyungsoo leaned away from him, towards Baekhyun on her other side. She and Kris were whispering to one another but Kyungsoo didn’t mind; she’d already been betrayed, this was just another drop in the bucket. The movie was pretty plotless, and she couldn’t honestly say she blamed them.
A few seats away, she could hear Sehun talking, not really lowering her voice, and Yixing giggling over something. Kyungsoo sighed, willing herself to relax. This wasn’t a big deal. It was most certainly not as bad as being shut in a closet with Jongin; she could always wrench Baekhyun away from Kris if she needed an out. And the movie was barely only over an hour long anyway. She’d checked that morning.
Kyungsoo tried to focus on the movie, knowing the time would pass faster if she got engrossed, but found her mind wandering. She glanced at Jongin out of the corner of her eye again. He had a nice profile, nose slightly crooked, long lashes. Really he was very lovely, and it wasn’t fair at all.
He must have sensed her staring this time because he looked over, meeting her eyes and smiling. She sucked in a breath and turned her eyes back to the screen, where there was a gratuitous car chase happening.
Lu Han got up, squeezing past Kyungsoo. "Bathroom," she whispered when Jongin asked.
He rolled his eyes. "You’re the one who wanted to see this movie," he hissed.
"I have to pee!" she replied, bounding down the stairs. Chanyeol followed on her heels, and Jongin seemed to find that funny, for some reason, but she wasn’t about to ask him why.
After a while, Kyungsoo became aware of the fact that Baekhyun and Kris had fallen silent, and upon looking over, she saw that it was because they’d begun to kiss. Kyungsoo elbowed Baekhyun, hard, and she made a small noise of pain and swatted absently at Kyungsoo.
Betrayers. Surrounded by unloyal betrayers. Baekhyun had gone on a date with Kris, but still, this was too much.
"Urgh," Kyungsoo said, shifting away from her. She couldn’t go far though, Jongin’s arm was right there, kind of in her space. So she simply sat up straight and folded her hands primly in her lap, desperately trying to focus on the movie. It wasn’t working.
"Do you want to switch seats?" Jongin murmured, right in her ear, and Kyungsoo yelped. Baekhyun and Kris didn’t seem to notice, but the people in the row in front of her shushed her.
Kyungsoo weighed that option and decided that yes, yes she did. But if she did that then she would be on the end with no one to save her from Jongin if he tried anything. Not that Baekhyun seemed likely to save her right now anyway.
"Yes," she said stiffly, and Jongin stood, letting her scoot over and then plopping into her empty seat. "Thank you."
"No problem," he replied quietly. He put his arm on their shared armrest again and she sighed. After a few beats he leaned back in to murmur in her ear, "You alright? You seemed flustered."
"All our friends are making out," she hissed. "Of course I am flustered. And stop that!"
He’d begun absently twirling the ends of her hair around his finger, and he let it go. "Sorry," he said lazily, not sounding sorry at all. His eyes were hooded, and he was staring at her intently. Again.
"Stop that too," she snapped.
"Mmm?" he asked, and his lips were so close to her ear she could almost feel the vibrations.
"Stop staring at me like-- like--"
"Like I want to kiss you? Like I want to lick into your mouth until you’re sobbing, desperate? Like I want to slide my hand under your ugly plaid uniform skirt and--"
Kyungsoo’s breath hitched, face flaming. "Stop," she whimpered, pressing her thighs together firmly. She clenched her hands in her lap.
"I haven’t even gotten to the good part," he chuckled, nosing her ear languidly. His breath was tickling her, and he was so warm.
"I don’t want your hands under my skirt," she mumbled. The pulsing heat between her legs said otherwise. "And I don’t want to kiss you either. You have a filthy mouth." She crossed her legs.
"So I’ve been told." He nipped at her earlobe, the sensation sending a shock through her and she gave a small moan, then slapped her hands over her mouth in mortification. "But that’s not necessarily a bad thing." He smirked and sat back, away from her.
Her ear tingled where his teeth had dragged over it. She wanted to punch him. Or crawl into his lap. The urge to do one or the other was nearly overwhelming, and to prevent herself from doing either, she stood and fled down the stairs in high dudgeon.
Of course he followed her, catching up to her when she was in the hallway on her way to the door. "Leave me alone, you heathen," she snapped, whirling on him to poke him in the chest. She gave him her best mean glare. Being annoyed was a good distraction from the tingles.
He looked confused. "Where are you going?"
"To find Chanyeol and Lu Han," she replied smartly. He couldn’t follow her into the girls’ bathroom, she figured.
"They’re probably fooling around in a stall, you don’t need to see that, trust me."
Kyungsoo was aghast. "Ew."
Jongin shrugged. "Lu Han has a kink for public sex."
"Ew," she repeated and he laughed. He had a nice laugh, and a stupid smile. It made her glare all the harder.
"Oh, stop that," he said. He tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear in what was becoming a familiar gesture. "I’ll stop flirting, okay? If you’re really bothered. I’ll let you watch the rest of that terrible movie in peace."
Flirting, she thought. Is that what he called it? It wasn’t like any flirting Kyungsoo had received before. She narrowed her eyes at him. "And you’ll stop staring at me and having-- having nasty thoughts about me?"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "I didn’t say that."
She huffed, cheeks flaming. He was still looking at her in that intense way. It made her squirm. "Why?"
He stepped into her personal space. "Why what?"
"Why are you so interested in kissing me and doing-- doing other stuff? Lu Han is prettier than me. So is Baekhyun, for that matter."
"I don’t know if you noticed, but Baekhyun is probably going to be attached to Kris’s lips for the next few weeks," he said dryly. "Also you’re prettier, than both her and Lu Han. And you’re sassy, smart." His voice dropped. "And you want me."
She bristled, even as her stomach dropped. "I most certainly do not."
"You keep rubbing your legs together."
She blushed. "I am keeping them closed in case you try to put your hand between them!"
He laughed, loudly. "I wouldn’t do that, I know you don’t want me to."
She blinked at him. "Oh."
"I’m not going to touch you unless you want me to."
"Oh."
A pause. "Do you want me to?"
For a moment, staring into his eyes, she couldn’t breath. "I-- I’m--"
She nearly jumped out of her skin when the door to their theater room burst open, and Lu Han and Chanyeol came stumbling through, giggling. Lu Han was a bit rumpled but neither of them looked the worse for the wear.
"Oops," Lu Han said when she caught sight of them. "Are we interrupting something?"
Jongin stepped away from Kyungsoo smoothly. "Yes."
"No," Kyungsoo said over him, frowning. "I got up to look for you two, and he followed me."
"Well here we are. Just in time to see the end of the movie." Lu Han hooked her arm in Jongin’s and dragged him away. He gave an indignant squawk.
"What are you doing?" she heard him ask.
"Saving that poor girl from your manwhoring clutches," Lu Han replied before she was drowned out by the speakers blasting the noise of an explosion.
Kyungsoo sighed, and Chanyeol patted her. "Did he kiss you?"
"He bit my ear."
"Nice." Chanyeol flounced off before Kyungsoo could swat her.
Kyungsoo went back to her seat. Kris and Baekhyun were still kissing, and a little way down the row Junmyeon and Jongdae were kissing as well. Zitao appeared to be sucking a hickey into Sehun’s neck.
"Traitors," Kyungsoo muttered as she flopped back into her seat. "I am surrounded by traitors."
"Mmm?" Jongin asked.
"Nothing," she snapped at him. "Keep your eyes on the movie or I’ll poke them out."
He chuckled lowly, but thankfully listened. Kyungsoo let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding.
The movie really was almost over. She hadn’t been paying attention to the plot enough to tell that way, but the pretty lead actress had finally just swooned into the main protagonist’s arms, so the ending couldn’t be far off. Kyungsoo was ready to go home. She felt flustered. Once home it’d be into the cold shower she went.
Jongin was twirling her hair around his fingers again and she sighed. "You never answered me," he murmured. She chanced a glance at him and he was still looking ahead at the movie screen, but he’d leaned in closer so she could hear him.
"I don’t know what you mean," she replied, hands clenched in her lap. The low sound of his voice was doing things to her, and she squirmed in her seat a bit.
"I asked if you wanted me to touch you, and you never answered."
She pursed her lips, staying silent. She squeezed her legs shut, hard, trying to get rid of some of the ache.
"That isn’t going to help," he whispered. She looked at him and he was staring down at where her hands were clasped in her lap.
"I know what helps," she hissed, rubbing her thighs together subtly.
He looked at her face, raising an eyebrow. "Really? Will you touch yourself tonight? To help get rid of that ache between your legs?"
Kyungsoo’s mouth dropped open, caught somewhere between shock and mortification. "Oh my God."
"It’s normal, you know, nothing to be so shocked over." His casual tone was nearly sending her into fits.
"I don’t need you to tell me that," she hissed. "I know it’s normal, I am not shocked. I’ve done it before--"
"Ah," he replied softly, and for the first time he sounded like she’d gotten to him. Good. Maybe he’d shut up. Instead, he leaned closer to whisper right in her ear, "When you put your fingers inside yourself tonight, pretend it’s me."
Kyungsoo choked, face flaming red, because the image of him slipping his fingers inside her actually caused her pain. That had backfired. She couldn’t do this anymore. She needed him to shut up.
She turned and bopped him in the nose.
Jongin gave a small cry, clutching his face. "You hit me!"
"You are a perverted heathen and I hate you!" she fairly shouted. She stood up and stomped out, running to the restrooms, where she clawed at her face while staring in the mirror.
After a few moments Junmyeon came in. "Uhm?" she asked.
"Oh," Kyungsoo said, mildly hysterical, "are you done sucking face with your boyfriend now?"
Junmyeon blushed. "The movie’s over. Why did you hit Jongin?"
"He was whispering dirty things in my ear," Kyungsoo sniffed. "It was drastic but needed to be done."
"Oh my God," Junmyeon said.
"He was talking to me about-- about--" she looked around herself and then mouthed, "masturbation."
"How did that even come up?" Junmyeon was blushing again.
"He was implying that because I was all-- all flustered, I should do that. To help," Kyungsoo replied stiffly.
Junmyeon bit her bottom lip, and Kyungsoo realized she was trying not to smile. "Well," she said gently, "you were squirming in your seat quite a bit."
Kyungsoo shrieked.
----
Somehow, Junmyeon managed to coax her out of the bathroom, after five minutes of playing with Kyungsoo’s hair and trying to placate her. Kyungsoo let herself be dragged through the theater and out into the cool evening air, although all she wanted to do was sit IN THE BATHROOM until she withered and died. She admitted she masturbates, to Jongin, of all people.
Their friends were waiting for them outside, talking quietly. Kris and Baekhyun were holding hands. Kyungsoo glared at Baekhyun. She needed new friends.
Kyungsoo tried to not look at Jongin, far too mortified over her previous admission, but he came up to her immediately and apologized, looking the picture of contriteness. He seemed sincere.
"He’s a beast," Lu Han said soothingly, putting her arm around Kyungsoo. "You poor thing."
"A tactless beast," Sehun said, taking a drag off her cigarette. Baekhyun eyed it nervously.
"I won’t do it again," Jongin mumbled. "I did get somewhat carried away." He sounded sheepish.
"Such a monster," Jongdae said, mock shivering. "I hope I never get stuck in the closet with you." Jongin shoved him.
"You were kissing Junmyeon throughout the movie," Kyungsoo pointed out, and both Jongdae and Junmyeon blushed.
"They’re all beasts!" Lu Han cried. "Come on, I’ll take you home."
"No, you won’t," Jongin said sharply. "You’re a beast too."
Lu Han slapped her hand over her heart, like he’d hurt her. "I am not! I would be gentle with her, sweet." She slid him a narrow glance. "And that’s more than I can say for you, you perverted twit." Jongin pursed his lips, and he looked so put out that Kyungsoo almost giggled. Lu Han sighed dramatically. "Boys."
"It’s alright," Kyungsoo said. Her cheeks felt warm. She didn’t like being the center of attention like this. "I accept his apology. And I am sorry too, for hitting you." She made herself meet his eyes. "Is your nose okay?"
He rubbed it. "Yeah. It’s not the first time I’ve been punched in the face." Somehow, Kyungsoo wasn’t surprised.
Conversation moved on. Kyungsoo felt a bit better. Her heartbeat was back to normal, at least.
That is, until Jongin sidled up next to her. "I really am sorry," he muttered. "I should have known you wouldn’t-- I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable, and I thought, after what happened in the closet-- I’m just sorry."
She turned wide eyes on him. "Should have known what? Thought what?"
"I should have known you wouldn’t appreciate such advances, and I thought you wanted me back." He stared down at her. "And I was right about that part at least, wasn’t I? You do want me." She pursed her lips and glared at him, which only made him chuckle. "Thought so."
She kicked him in the shin.
----
Kyungsoo couldn’t sleep, mind too busy. Her eyes were wide open, staring blankly at the dark ceiling. She couldn’t stop thinking about what Jongin had said, his deep voice echoing in her mind.
When you put your fingers inside yourself tonight, pretend it’s me.
She glanced down, then turned red.
"I hate him," she mumbled as her hand slid beneath the covers, legs falling apart.
----
"No," Kyungsoo said.
"Come on, Kyungsoo. It’s a soccer match, not an orgy. Besides, Minseok wants you to come." Junmyeon gave her puppy eyes.
Kyungsoo blinked. "She does?"
Junmyeon nodded. "So does Lu Han. She promised to beat Jongin away from you with a stick if he tries anything."
That made Kyungsoo giggle. "Baekhyun and Chanyeol are going as well?" Junmyeon nodded and Kyungsoo sighed heavily. "Fine, I’ll go." She’d been dragged to several of Chanyeol’s field hockey matches, so really this couldn’t be all that different. And this actually sounded fun. She’d be with the group the whole time in a very public setting.
The match was held at Jongdae’s school, in the late afternoon. It was nice outside, the late afternoon sun warm, and a gentle breeze was blowing. Lu Han hugged her on sight like she was an old friend. Kyungsoo giggled as Lu Han squeezed her hard around the ribs.
It was odd seeing Lu Han in her soccer uniform, considering she usually rolled her uniform skirt up impossibly high and had ample amounts of lipgloss smeared on her lips, not to mention multiple earring in her ears. She looked downright dainty in her jersey.
"Be careful, okay?" Kyungsoo said.
"I am going to destroy them," she said cheerfully, and then bounded away. Minseok was on the field, easy to spot with her coppery hair. She waved at Kyungsoo and the others, but didn’t come over. Yixing was down there as well, in a small sea of other girls wearing the same teal and gold cheerleading uniform.
"She’ll be fine," Jongin said. He’d taken off his uniform shirt, and was wearing a white tee with another band logo she didn’t recognize on it. "Lu Han looks like a doll but she’s ferocious on the field."
"Thanks for letting me know," Kyungsoo sniffed. Jongin eyed her quizzically as she hooked Junmeyon’s arm, then Baekhyun’s, and dragged them away.
The bleachers weren’t very full, so it was easy finding seats for all of them. Kyungsoo sat down and pulled her friends with her, using them as human buffers from the boys. "If either of you start making out with your boyfriends," she muttered, "I will pee on you." Baekhyun squeaked and Junmyeon rolled her eyes.
Jongdae plunked down next to Junmyeon, and Chanyeol perched beside him, seeming excited. Kris sat on Baekhyun’s other side, then came Zitao, then Sehun, and Jongin was at the end. Kyungsoo pat herself on the back.
She didn’t know much about soccer, really, but she knew to cheer when someone wearing a teal jersey scored. Lu Han was surprisingly good, if not a little terrifying. Every time she made a goal Chanyeol would clap like a seal and shriek. Sehun kept wincing like it physically hurt her. Minseok made less goals, preferring to repeatedly pass to Lu Han. Yixing cheered for her in a less embarrassing fashion than Chanyeol.
The game ended with a score of 3-1 to Lu Han and Minseok’s team, and even Kris gave a little cheer for them. They filed down to the field to congratulate them, and Kyungsoo nearly slipped on a water bottle that had been tossed to the ground. The sun had gone down and even with the huge lights on, it was hard to see. Someone helped steady her briefly, and upon looking over it was Jongin. He simply smiled and past her, going to hug a rather sweaty Lu Han. Kyungsoo wanted to fling mud at his face.
"That wasn’t too boring, I hope," Minseok said, interrupting Kyungsoo’s mud fantasies.
Kyungsoo shook her head, smiling. "Not at all."
"You guys did really well," Chanyeol said enthusiastically.
"You did," Yixing said shyly, and Minseok pecked her on the corner of her mouth.
Lu Han sashayed over. "I told you we’d destroy them," she said happily. "Who wants to celebrate? We can all go to my house."
"I do!" Chanyeol replied immediately.
"I don’t," Sehun said flatly.
Lu Han sidled up to her. "There’ll be booze," she cajoled.
"Oh, well, fine, I’ll go," said Sehun, face not changing.
"I’ll go too," Zitao added, and Minseok and Yixing echoed her.
Kyungsoo made to speak up but Baekhyun beat her to it. "I can’t," she said apologetically. "It’s after dark, and I need to get home."
"Ah, yeah, you girls have curfews," Jongin said, lips quirking.
"I’ll walk you to the bus stop and stay with you until the bus comes," Kris offered.
"Thanks," Baekhyun replied shyly, looking up at him through her lashes.
They walked off together, and Zitao snorted. "He’s besotted. I don’t know if it’s funny or gross."
"Gross," Sehun decided.
Junmyeon sighed. "I need to go too."
"I’ll walk you," Jongdae declared, and Lu Han giggled at him.
"Me too," Kyungsoo said softly. She smiled at Lu Han and Minseok. "Thank you for inviting me."
"Aw," Lu Han said. She gave Kyungsoo another hug. "Maybe next time?"
"Maybe," Kyungsoo said, genuinely meaning it.
The group going to Lu Han’s bid them farewell, chattering loudly as they went, and then Kyungsoo was left with Jongdae and Junmyeon.
And Jongin, who’d gone a few steps and then stopped, like he’d remembered something.
"Aren’t you going?" Kyungsoo asked.
"You’re walking home."
Kyungsoo squinted at him. "Yes."
"I could walk with you." He tilted his head to the side.
"No."
"That’s a good idea," Jongdae said, and Junmyeon nodded.
"What." Kyungsoo blinked.
"Jongdae is taking me to the bus stop, but you’re going to be walking home, and it’s dark!"
"I can just take the bus too," Kyungsoo said hurriedly. She didn’t care if it meant she’d be an awkward third wheel.
Junmyeon rolled her eyes. "You’d have to backtrack and walk even farther if you did that."
"You only live a few blocks from here, right?" Jongin said, smiling, trying to cajole her.
Kyungsoo whirled on Junmyeon. "You cannot leave me alone with him!" she hissed.
Junmyeon gave her a half hug and pecked her on the cheek. "Stop being such a worry wart. I’ll see you tomorrow in church."
Kyungsoo made a garbled noise of pure outrage as Junmyeon took Jongdae’s hand and together, they went walking down the street to their bus stop. And then she was left alone on the sidewalk next to Jongin, which was exactly what she’d been hoping to avoid.
"Shall we?" he asked, a smile in his voice.
She refused to turn and look at his face. Instead she began to stomp in the direction of her house, hands fisted at her sides, brows lowered in a fierce scowl.
She heard the patter of footsteps behind her. "Go away!" she said, picking up her pace.
"I told you," he called, clearly a little ways behind her. "I live in this direction. Besides, your friend’s right, you shouldn’t be walking home alone after dark, it’s dangerous."
"You’re dangerous!"
He laughed. "I am not."
"Yes, you are!"
He caught up with her easily, peering down at her face. She kept her eyes forward resolutely. "What’s wrong? You’re awfully hostile, and all I’ve done is be nice to you."
Kyungsoo sucked in a sharp breath, nostrils flaring. "Nice? Nice? You call-- call cornering me multiple times and whispering dirty, nasty things in my ear nice?"
Jongin snorted. "I apologized for that. I wasn’t doing it to be mean, all the panting and squirming you were doing put me under the impression that you rather enjoyed it."
Her face flamed red, all the way to the tips of her ears. "That’s what I mean," she hissed. "You are not a nice type of boy. You’ve been waiting to pounce on me."
"You’ve met me all of three times before, and haven’t even had a proper conversation with me. You don’t really know me." He paused. "We don’t really know each other, to be honest. But I’d like to know you." He bumped her gently with his elbow, and she realized he was trying to be playful. She slit a glare at him and then turned her eyes forward again. "What type of boy am I then? If I am not the nice kind."
She bit her bottom lip, face feeling hot all over again as she tried to figure out how to phrase it. "You’re the type of boy who-- who would ruin a girl. You’d ruin her and then leave her. You’re promiscuous." She puffed herself up. "And I am not indulging in such behaviour."
He laughed, the sound so loud it startled her. "Is that what you’re afraid I am going to do to you? Christ. No wonder you’re giving me such mixed signals." She sniffed, walking faster. "And is being promiscuous really such a bad thing? Lu Han’s promiscuous and you like her well enough."
"It’s bad if you’re-- you’re preying on people, having sex with them and then just leaving them afterwards." She scowled. "And Lu Han is nice. She doesn’t strut about and prey on unsuspecting victims."
"Lu Han would fuck you, if she got half a chance."
Her frown slipped off as she glanced at him in confusion. "Lu Han can’t-- can’t do that, we’re both girls." He laughed at her again, which made her feel silly, so she quickly continued, "Do you deny that you’re that type of boy?"
Jongin was silent for a few beats, apparently mulling it over. "Yes and no. I enjoy having sex, so I guess I am promiscuous, as you say, but I don’t prey on people. I don’t lure girls in with promises and then ditch them once I’ve fucked them, that’s a shitty thing to do. All the girls I have been with knew from the start what was up."
She huffed. "Yes, well, I know what’s up as well, and I do not approve of such shenanigans. So you can just. Shoo."
"I am not trying to get in your pants-- er, skirt-- I know you’re a virgin."
She spluttered, blushing brightly. "You said you wanted to put your hand up my skirt."
"I thought you wanted me to," he said simply. "Or thought that you thought you wanted me to."
She frowned, confused. "So you don’t want to?"
Jongin rubbed the back of his head. "I do. But now I know you don’t want me to, so I won’t. I would like to talk though, and kiss. Lots of kissing." He smiled at her. "You’re very kissable."
"Well, I don’t want to do those things with you either."
He slid her a sidelong glance. "Really?" he asked softly. Suddenly he was in front of her, leaning down a bit so they were eye to eye. She was forced to stop dead so she wouldn’t run into him. "You don’t want to kiss me, then? At all?"
"No," she replied resolutely, the word bitten out. Her cheeks turned red though. She’d always been a bad liar. She wanted him more than she could admit to herself, for reasons she wasn’t even sure of.
"So the way you’ve been staring at my lips all day is just a strange coincidence?" He was smiling slightly, but his eyes were intense, and it reminded her of back when they were in the closet.
She took a step back, and he stepped forward. Her eyes dipped down to glance at his mouth before darting back up, and his smile widened into a smirk. "I haven’t been staring at your stupid poofy lips." She looked away from him, pursing her lips together and stepping away from him.
"Don’t do that," he said.
"Stop advancing on me like a-- a predator then!" She took several steps backwards, and knocked into something hard and cold. "Ow!" Looking up, she could see she’d backed into a lamppost.
He almost laughed, but managed to hold it in. She glared at him. "I meant don’t purse your lips like that," he chuckled. He touched the side of her head softly. "Are you alright?"
"I-- yes--" she cut off with a small noise of panic, because his hand was moving to card through her hair, and then the other one was coming up as well, cupping the back of her head gently. He stepped in closer, leaving just enough space between them so their bodies weren’t touching. She stared up at him, eyes wide. Her heart was racing, and her hands went behind her to brace on the lamppost for support.
She should shove him away. She should. He was everything she’d ever been warned against, the physical embodiment of all the boys she’d been told to run screaming from. And yet she found she wanted this, wanted his hands all over her, his mouth. Even if it was just this once, shewanted.
"Tell me to stop if you don’t want this, truly don’t want this," he whispered. "Tell me no, and I’ll leave you be. I’ll take you safely home, untouched. I won’t bother you again."
His hand was still carefully carding through her hair, mussing it up. She couldn’t gather her wits enough to speak, couldn’t focus with him staring at her like that. All she managed to summon up was a weak whimper. She couldn’t decide which half of her brain to listen to.
"Tell me if you don’t want this," Jongin said hoarsely. "I think you do, you keep staring at me, and I know the look. I’m not going to hurt you-- not going to ruin you. As if I could." His face dipped in closer, their noses brushing, just like when they’d been shut in the closet. "God, stop me now if you don’t want this."
Kyungsoo squeezed her eyes shut, and felt her resolve crumble. "I do," she whimpered. "I do, I do, but you’re--"
He didn’t give her a chance to finish. He pressed himself flush against her, tilted her face up, and set his mouth to hers. It was gentle, his lips closed, just a soft warm pressure. She found herself holding her breath, her heartbeat loud in her ears. After a few seconds, he pulled away.
She opened her eyes, blinking at him blearily. "That’s it?" she asked, relieved and yet also indignant.
"Your first kiss should be sweet," he said, a glint in his eyes. "But your second doesn’t have to be, and I am taking that too."
"Oh," she gasped, and this time when he kissed her it was open mouthed, his lips sliding against hers so he could suck softly on her bottom lip, a gentle tug. It made her lean into him, her hands coming away from the post to clutch at the back of his shirt. He was so warm, and she could feel muscle definition through the thin material of his shirt. It made her clutch at him harder.
His lips were moving against hers, not nearly as fiercely as she would have expected, just slow, languid touches. She tried to kiss him back, not at all sure what she was doing. In a moment of courage she mimicked him, sucking on his bottom lip, and he gave a small groan. She echoed that sentiment. The aching heat was back between her legs, and her breasts felt weirdly full, tender.
To Kyungsoo’s mortification she realized she was pressing up against him in an attempt to relieve that pressure. She pulled her face away from his with a gasp. "I can’t--"
He bit his bottom lip, hard. "Do you want to stop?"
"No," she whimpered. "Yes. I don’t know. I feel-- I need--" She squirmed against him, wanting him closer, but also wanting space. He hissed, like she’d hurt him, and she stilled, eyes wide. "Sorry."
"Fuck, don’t be," he said, laughing breathlessly. "I know what you need." Wordlessly he slid his thigh between her legs, pressing against where she was hurting, and it sent a jolt of pleasure so intense through her that she had to clutch at his shoulders for support. She gave a little cry. "Fuck," he said again. "I wasn’t expecting this."
She hadn’t been either. He’d unravelled her completely, and it had barely taken any effort on his part. She’d be embarrassed about it if she wasn’t so dazed. "You’re good at it," she mumbled. "Kissing. But isn’t there supposed to be tongue involved?" He made a noise somewhere between a moan and a laugh and dropped his head so it rested on her shoulder. He left it there while he snickered. "Don’t laugh at me," she grumbled, swatting at him.
"I’m sorry," he replied. "I didn’t think you were ready to handle my tongue in your mouth tonight, but you were more enthusiastic than I thought you’d be." He raised his head so he could whisper in her ear. "Here’s what’s going to happen, sweetling. We can continue this, but if we do you’re going to be coming in my arms soon, right here on the street, and I seemed to recall promising not to do anything drastic tonight. I think we should save the orgasms for later, at least until after our first date."
She blinked, pushing at his head so she could look at his face. "Date?"
"Mmm," he replied, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Date. We’ll go get ice cream, or something else equally boring and cliche." He grabbed her shoulders to balance her and slid his leg out from between hers, stepping back. She gave an involuntary sob at the loss of contact and then slapped her hands over her mouth in embarrassment. His hands gripped her harder for a moment and then loosened again. Once he deemed her steady enough he let her go.
All of a sudden the world came rushing back in startling clarity. "Oh," she said. "Oh no. I just--" Kyungsoo ran her fingers through her hair in an attempt to fix it, straightened her clothes, anything so she wouldn’t have to look at Jongin. She kind of wanted a pit to open up underneath her and swallow her up. "This is embarrassing," she mumbled, cheeks pink.
"What is?" he asked. "There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I liked it too. A lot. And I get the impression you’re a bit repressed, so it’s only natural you’d be so sensitive." He combed his fingers through her hair, trying to set it to rights. "Fuck, it’s all tangled."
"I am not repressed," she mumbled. "And I probably look like I’ve been mauled." She glared at him. Glaring made her feel better. Despite what he’d said, there was a lot to be completely mortified over. She’d lost herself in the moment.
"You look like you’ve been kissed," he said. He sounded happy. "Your lips are very pretty like this." She pressed them into a line, just because she knew he didn’t like it. He quickly kissed her again, and then pulled away when she gasped. "I wasn’t kidding when I said I wanted to kiss you for hours. And I do want to take you on a date."
Kyungsoo put her hands over her face and began walking again, tottering slightly. Jongin touched her back carefully, the weight helping to settle her a little. She didn’t want to look at him though, it was too embarrassing.
"Stupid boy," she grumbled, picking up her pace. They were approaching her house. Belatedly, she wondered if one of the neighbors could have seen them kissing. Probably. "Stupid promiscuous boy with poofy lips."
"Does this mean you’ll go out with me?" he asked. "Say, Saturday?"
"Will there be more embarrassing kissing?" she asked through gritted teeth.
"Oh, definitely."
She gave a heavy sigh. "Fine. Fine. Whatever." She stopped. "This is my house. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Kyungsoo. Sorry I mauled you. I will go home and repent." He blinked at her innocently, a smile tugging at his lips.
She sniffed. "Good."
Jongin laughed, the sound rich, then bit his lip like he was nervous. He tentatively leaned in quickly to peck her cheek, then pulled away and jogged down the street, hand rubbing at the back of his head like he was embarrassed. Once he turned the corner she sagged against her gate.
"Oh my God," she mumbled. "Oh my God. I just-- urgh--"
She pulled out her phone and sent an angry text to Junmyeon.
I fucking hate you.
Junmyeon sent one back almost immediately.
I take it this means he mauled you? Sorry.
A second text shortly followed.
Was he as good at kissing as lu han said???
Kyungsoo scowled furiously at her screen.
