Unworthy – Vancouver Sleep Clinic

- The reason I moved here... I needed to change my whole life. Back in Miami, I was a state prosecutor, or state attorney. You know. And I was working on this case on the Cuban gang... With whom I grew up with, in the same neighborhood. I wanted to make it safer... And I lost everything to it. My husband, my kid...

- Wait... What?

Jungkook stopped in his way, looking at her, his eyes filled with questions. He didn't know she had been married, nor that she had a kid. The only thing Maevy told him was that she just moved in after some things went down in her life and that she was now single. Not that she was actually married... and a mom. A mom. This was the kind of details making him realize they did have an age gap. He was still working on his graduate studies, and she was a mother with a career. Jungkook felt like someone just punched him in the face.

- I thought Mae told you about it... Hm... So, I was married, and I had a son. They are both ... gone.

- Gone?

- They were killed by the gang I was prosecuting.

- Oh... OH.

Now, he understood why she ran from her old life. She just didn't have a life anymore back there. He then finally started to walk again, to simply wrap his arm around her body, kissing her forehead.

- I am so sorry... I didn't know. If there's anything... I'm here. Always.

- Thank you Kookie... You're actually the first one I really talk about it. I didn't tell much anybody. Mae knows obviously, and my family, but it's not the same as telling somebody outside of that circle. Since Mae presented me to you guys, I'm finally starting to feel like I am alive again and not that poor woman whose husband and son are dead. So... Thank you.

- You ARE welcome.

He then offered her a wink, keeping one of his arms around her shoulders as they continued walking with their hot cocoa.

- I have nightmares every time I go to sleep... And I hurt myself while I sleep... On my thighs. I never told Mae. I know she saw the scars... But she never tried to talk to me about it. I guess it's her way to let me heal on my own pace. Last night was the only night in 8 months I didn't ... Have a nightmare.

- Well at least, you're not hurting yourself consciously ... right?

- No, no... Not anymore. The first months, but not anymore. I had to stop it was getting dangerous for... Mh, my life.

Sobs were getting stuck in her own throat. It was the first time she talked about it, and yes, it helped. But in a way, it was hurting her to open up this part of herself.

The first few months after Juan's death, she was consciously opening the skin of her inner thighs with her own nails. One time, it got so bad, the wounds infected, and it got pretty dangerous for her condition at the time.

They were now arriving at the park's Eastern exit and Dahlia stopped her, turning to Jungkook. She half-smiled as she saw the concern in his eyes.

- You should feel privilege I talked about it with you, you know.

- Don't worry, I already feel that way... Do you want to go home right now? Maybe we could watch a movie or something?

- Yeah, we can go to my place if you want. Mae is out, so we won't be bothering her.
