Shades of Cool - Lana Del ReyDahlia was sitting in her room, by her windows. From up there, she could see people walking in the street, trying to get their last minutes arrangements for Valentine's Day. That thought made Dahlia shrug in disgust. She had always hated this day, her birthday.
- Happy Birthday Dali! Do you want to get drinks tonight or do you want to order Chinese and stay here? I need to get to work but, text me your answer, ok? Bye baby!
Maevy was standing in the pile of boxes still unpacked from her roommate move-in. She needed to let her take the time she needed, even though the journalist was more of a neat type of person. She stayed for a second and then got out of the room, already late for work. Dahlia didn't even flinch, still looking at the figures walking in the snow. Amazing... how do they get things done like this? She wondered to herself, still dazed by the snowflakes every time she walks outside.
She heard her friend, but today, she didn't feel like anything, she didn't feel anything. She had to make a choice for tonight, or she would never hear the end of it. But, right now, she wasn't able to do anything else than watching the snow fall on those people heads. They looked so tiny for her window, her room being on the 6xt floor of this old Greenwich building. It was an old building from before the Great War, and even though it got renovated multiple times, there was still a nice vintage cachet to it with all the woodworks on the ceiling and the walls, and old bricks. She loved Maevy's place and she was glad she accepted her in her home, especially since she was a little hard to live with these last couple of months. But her friend understood the emptiness she was feeling and tried to give her the most normal experience possible, because that was what Dahlia wanted. A fresh start in a new city.
Ding...
Her thoughts got unsettled by the sound of her phone.
Unknown number: Happy Birthday Dahlia !
Her heart compressed in her chest, her breathing suddenly stopping. Did they find her? Did they wanted to finally end it all? She was so scared. How did somebody get this number? Only Maevy and her close family had it.
- Who is it?
- Jungkook...
Seeing this name on the phone, she frowned, surprised he texted her. She remembered him from 4 nights ago, Maevy introduced them. How did he know about her birthday? And her number? Was he working with them? No... He is anything but Cuban... You never know, remember, you are Cuban... she thought. She fixed her phone for a good two minutes, trying to guess how to deal with that.
- How did you get this number?
- I stole it from Mae's phone. I remembered from her story that you have your birthday today. So Happy birthday ;)
- Oh... Thanks!
A genuine smile appeared on her face, realizing she overreacted about the whole situation and he was simply being kind to her.
- So, Mae told me you guys were considering getting drinks tonight... I would love to offer you one if you let me.
- Oh... I haven't decided yet if I wanted to go out, I'm not really fond of my birthday to be honest.
- Oh, come on Dali! It will be fun ;)
Sighing, she rolled her eyes. How could she say no to that? Since that night in the bar, she kept thinking about his smile and how he made her smiled for the first time in months.
