Chapter Twelve -

End of the Journey

[_]

Everyone goes through something sad and you feel like you've lost everything, but right now, that's how I felt. But for something kind of different.

No, not a funeral or graduation (leaving my family).

But leaving all of the friends I made in this camp, and it sucks, knowing I won't be able to see them for another year or two, especially since I found someone I truly love; Noah.

And someone I truly love as a sister; Alex.

And someone I most of all will remember for the rest of my life hating; Kate.

It's not surprising, that we're all leaving, going seperate ways. I mean, you would think people who grow close would stay near each other forever, but not this time.

But sometimes you have an incredible urge to just kidnap them and take them with you (just a joke) so you can stay with them for a little while longer. But that can't and won't happen in reality. Maybe in dreams, yes. But here? No.

"Dani," an elbow nudges by side, and I yelp, looking to my left to see Alex standing there, but Noah no where in sight.

"Yeah?" I reply, rubbing my side, slightly wincing. She's still strong, obviously.

"Guess who I found!" She sings, spinning around in a red soft, flowy dress. I arch an eyebrow at her, and she points to a car near the entrance to the camp, and I scream, a happy smile growing on my face. I sprint toward the familiar car, not caring I was in heels, yet I almost trip a few times, and throw myself in the arms of Remi.

"God dammit, Remi, I missed you!" I yell into her shoulder, squeezing her tight.

"I know, I know, I'm fabulous, but jeez," she laughs, unwrapping my arms from around her. She suddenly looks behind me and she flutters her eyelashes, purring.

"Why hello there," she winks at the figure behind me and I turn around to see Noah there, looking amused at Remi.

"Sorry, not interested," he grins cheekily, smiling down at me, and grabbing my hand and holding it tightly.

Remi sees and she starts to burst out laughing, "God! I'm an idiot, of course a hunk like him would belong to a beautiful girl like Dani!"

I blush, staring down at the ground. Alex suddenly appears at my side, holding her hand out to shake at Remi, and she looks down at the outstretched hand, and arches an eyebrow, before diving in for a hug.

"I don't give handshakes, I give hugs!" That's when I suddenly notice her attire, new clothes. She now has a plain white shirt on, a leather jacket hung over her shoulder, while her long legs sport a pair of dark skinny jeans, while she still wears those ratty converse. Her hair is up in a ponytail, while sunglasses are perched on her head, and she doesn't have heavy makeup for once.

"Alex, Remi," I introduce them to eachother, "Remi, Alex." They high five eachother, and I grin, knowing they would become great friends.

I leave them be, and turn around to Noah, and he grins at me, placing a small kiss on my forehead.

"This summer was fun," I say casually, leaning against his shoulder. He chuckles, and I feel him nod against the top of my head, and he sighs.

"I'm gonna miss you," he tells me, hugging me from behind.

"Well, I'm not gonna miss you," I tease, ruffling his hair, and he whines, gently pushing me away and fixing his hair.

"You will," he mutters, then remembers the car Remi came out of and frowns.

"What?" I ask when I see him frowning, and I look to where he is staring and frown myself.

"You're already leaving, huh?" He gives me a sad smile, looking at me and back at the car multiple times.

I nod, wrapping my arms around his waist. He slowly puts his arms around me, and we stand there, hugging in the middle of the sidewalk. He places a lingering kiss on the top of my head, but doesn't let go.

"Okay, love birds! Time to get going!" I hear Remi yell from a few feet away.

"Oh, and you'll have plenty of time to get it on later!" Alex adds, and I hear a small slap, meaning they both high fived each other.

I blush, my ears turning red unattractively. Noah looks down at me and chuckles, ruffling my hair, and walks off, waving goodbye. I wave back, and turn to glare at the two girls I call my best friends.

"Assholes," I mutter, stalking past them. They, once again, start laughing and Remi follows me after she says bye to Alex, and she shoves me into the car, where I see my little brother in the backseat, asleep. And my mother in the front looking uncomfortable, but happy to see me.

But, that's when I notice who is sitting next to her.

My dad.

When we arrive home, I'm fuming. Nobody talked on the way home, and I was holding back the retorts to my father's questions and statements that nobody replied to.

"So, who was that boy toy you were with?" He sneers when we get inside, and I nearly scream. I turn around, biting back a hateful remark.

"That was my boyfriend." I state, my voice coming out harsher than I intended it to.

"Yeah? That sounds so similar to what your mother said when she--" That's when I scream, a blood-curdling scream that could easily break glass, but it didn't. I glare at the man I used to call my father, the man I used to love and cherish all my time with him, but it's over. All damn well over.

"Shut the hell up and leave!" I scream, tears pouring out of my eyes as I stare at him. His eyes are blazing with anger and challenging me to say something else.

"No can do," he snaps, pointing towards my room, "Go pack, you're leaving with me."

And that, is when I yearn for Alex and Noah the most.
