"Eden! I thought I heard you," Her mother said as she opened the door, noticing her and Ethan kissing. "Oh! Who's this?"
Shit.
This was just great. Eden and Ethan both pulled apart, eyes wide like they were two scared teens who'd been caught doing something they shouldn't.
"Hi, mom," she grinned sheepishly, hugging her mother.
Ethan put his hands in his pockets and stood there awkwardly. This was not what he planned—he was supposed to be gone before this.
"Mom, this is Ethan," Eden introduced him, biting her lip. She wasn't planing this either.
"I didn't know you had a boyfriend, sweetie!" Her mother, Jessica, hugged Ethan too. Eden had to hold back a laugh as he accepted it, looking at her for help.
"Uh... yeah! This is my boyfriend, I wanted it to be a surprise." She nodded, linking their hands.
Her mother gave a soft smile and opened the door for them. "It's cold, come inside you two," they did, wondering how to get out of this.
The answer was that they couldn't.
Jessica yelled through the house, announcing Eden's arrival to the rest of the family so they could come greet her. Her father and two younger brothers gave her hugs before turning their attention to Ethan.
"This is Ethan," she nodded, feeling ever so uncomfortable. He waved, wishing he could leave.
"It's great to see you, honey." Her father, Mark, gave a kiss on the forehead before shaking Ethan's hand. Her two brothers, Ben and Samson, did not greet him with anything but a nod and narrowed eyes.
She caught up with her family for a few minutes before they let her bring her stuff upstairs, Ethan following promptly.
"I did not come here to meet your family. What the hell do we do? Can I alter their memories real quick?" He asked.
"No! Don't mess with my families memories. They don't know you're a demon so you can just... hangout a bit. I'll give an excuse whenever you have to leave. They think I brought my boyfriend to meet them, and I can't say otherwise since my mom saw us eating face." Eden rolled her eyes, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"This is something I never thought I'd have to do," he whined, pressing their lips together. "I'll work during nights mostly so it doesn't seem like I'm out all the time."
"Thank you," she smiled, kissing him again. "My parents won't crucify you or anything. My brothers might try though..."
Ethan snorted, picturing the two boys downstairs. They were 18 and 16 respectively, but they didn't scare Ethan one bit. No matter how tough they tried to look.
"Your room is cute," he teased. It wasn't that bad, but she still had a lot of old stuff in it that didn't fit her anymore.
A bunch of stuffed animals hanging above her bed, purple walls, band posters, just stuff from years ago before she moved away for school.
She rolled her eyes and tugged him down the stairs toward her family again.
They stayed and chatted for a while, Eden's mom giving cookies that she made for her home-coming. It wasn't bad, other than Ben and Sam glaring at Ethan.
They were always a little protective of their older sister. She thought it was cute.
But they didn't stay up for long. It was getting a little late, and frankly Eden was dead tired.
Her parents agreed Ethan staying with her made the most sense. Mostly because her mom said she was an adult, and they trusted her. Her father was on the fence.
