The night was dark and empty. The streets desolate and abandoned save the hurried and frantic steps of his prey.

It's heart thumped wildly, thrashing like a rabid prisoner in a cell, eager to escape. Each breath that slipped past chapped lips was short, much like the life of its breather. Ragged, short, harsh puffs that burnt in the warm, summer air. Dark, glistening eyes darted around in the endless abyss of darkness as they fought for a way to escape. The determination slowly edged away as her ankle twisted and she collapsed, a cry ripped from her throat.

The predator stalked forwards as the girl pushed herself back up onto her legs, running with a terribly swelling and twisted ankle. Purple and blue bloomed upon her pale skin, flowering elegantly in sharp, impulsive strikes, blossoming when her foot came into contact with the ground. Her legs wobbled weakly, tired, overused, ready to abandon the rest of her body with ease.

All it took was a shove and she fell, collapsing face-first to the ground, the bone of her nose clicking arrogantly and blood spurted free. Pain pumped within her veins and she whimpered, but the fire and desperation to live had yet to fade. Determined, she pushed herself back up. She had to keep going. Unfortunately for her, the predator had gotten bored of the game.

The rough, harsh reality of a boot crashed down upon her, both mentally and physically. She choked and gasped for air as her lungs screeched like a wild bird shoved into a cage as the air was knocked out of her. The boot crunched down upon her spine, eliciting a feeble scream as she lost all energy and capability to create any noise. Her hand reached out towards nothing.

Help. Someone, please help. But they were the only ones for miles. And her voice was lost to the torrent of fear that imprisoned her.

The boot pressed in further, harsher, the second boot bringing itself to her head, where a gash of flowing blood had claimed residency. "Please, S-" And with one heavy, powerful thump downwards, the second boot smashed her skull in mercilessly, silencing her - forever.

She was still. She was silent. Blood splattered everywhere; trickling everywhere. It seeped into the concrete; into the stone. The second boot crunched on bone, as it was quickly removed, scraped across the ground, leaving behind it a streak of blood, shattered bone and the remains of brain. This was all that would be left of her. This was what she had become.

"You were bad. You disobeyed. I warned you, but you just didn't listen. Now, look at what you've done."

They were whispers, lost in the light, warm breeze of the summer air. Stuck in time, lost in all else.

He walked away, pulling out a phone.

"I dealt with it - like I'd said. Do me a favour and make sure nobody knows it was me. I'd really like that. Then, the police can enjoy their new little gift."

Condescending, demanding, authoritative and smug.

This was part of who he was.

After all, there were countless sides to the mazes of enigmas that made up Kim Seungmin.
