Shauna pulled her car up to the curb in front of Gabby's house and cut the engine.  It was the weekend, but she knew her sister was home because the lights in the house were on.  They hadn't spoken in two days.  Not since she opened her big mouth and spilled the news about Laurent.

Shauna had confessed her major faux pax to Larry and he'd made her feel as low as one person could make another person feel through a video chat connection.  He also made her promise to go apologize as soon as possible.

Reluctantly, she dragged herself out of the car to Gabby's front door and let herself inside.   In typical Shauna fashion she started talking right away.

"Okay, listen, I'm here and I'm sorry!" she yelled to the empty living room as she made a beeline toward the kitchen and straight to the fridge.

She grabbed a pint of ice cream, opened it, and stuck and spoon inside, all the while still shouting.

"...And I know you're here because I'm dialing your phone right now and I can hear it ringing in your room. So, let's just make up because you know you can't ever stay mad at me anyway!"

Shauna downed a spoonful of ice cream then abandoned the carton on the breakfast bar counter and rounded the corner toward her sister's room.

"Gabby? Gabby! C'mon, I said I was sorry.  Stop giving me the silent treatment already.  It's not cute when you do it.  It's only cute when I do it—"

Shauna burst through the bedroom door fully prepared to beg for forgiveness with her puppy dog eyes, but what she saw made her stop short.

"Gabby?...what's happening?"

Through the open closet door she could see Gabby sitting inside on the floor slumped against the far wall which was lined with dozens of empty hangers where Laurent's clothes used to be.

Shauna rushed to her side and knelt.  "Gabby, talk to me.  C'mon, say something.  Anything."

Gabby's chest heaved and her mouth opened, but no words came out.  Instead, she just let her tear-stained face fall against Shauna's chest.

Shauna wrapped her arms around her sister and rocked her gently.

"Everything's gonna be okay.  Don't worry, I got you.  I got you, sis."  Shauna kept repeating those words out loud convincingly, but she was freaking out inside.

She never had to be the strong one before.  That was always Gabby's job.  She needed to call the one person who would know exactly what to do in this situation.

She needed to call Patrick.
