daniel was feeling a lot better a few days later. morgan and alex were both at their school, and nalia was with anna, leaving corbyn and daniel alone.
daniel was pressed against corbyn's chest, their legs tangled together, neither making an attempt to move. corbyn had his arm wrapped around daniel's broad shoulders, kissing his head occasionally.
they had to head over to an interview at 3, thankfully, it was only 9.
daniel smiled small everytime corbyn kissed his head. he snuggled closer to his husband, hiding his face in the crook of his neck.
a loud knock on the door made both boys groan. daniel leaned up, kissing his lips lightly before rolling out of bed, corbyn following close behind.
there was a tall figure behind the blurry glass. daniel stilled his movements, feeling anxiety bubble through him.
corbyn touched the small of his back, looking at the figure, clearly dressed in all black, standing still. corbyn moved towards the door and the figure took off.
corbyn jogged towards the door and flung it open. he ran out of the house, ignoring daniel's calls. corbyn watched a blue car skid around the corner of their neighborhood.
"corbyn!" daniel gasped from inside the house.
"yo besson! you good?"
corbyn turned around and saw their neighbor troy, messing around with his four year old son, carter while his wife was inside their garage making sandwiches and listening to soft music.
"did..did you see someone standing at our door?" corbyn asked nervously. troy shook his head and told his son to go inside since his wife was calling them for lunch.
"no." he shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair. he paused. "wait.. yeah! yeah i did! i thought he was one of your band buddies, until i realized he wasn't."
daniel came outside, stepping over a piece of paper he didn't see. he stood next to corbyn who was quietly talking to troy.
"...yeah, he was a bit taller than daniel. couldn't see his face though. i saw his eyes when he first came up to your house, no life what so ever. kind of scared me. i wanted to take carter inside but i wanted to make sure you two were okay."
"alright... uh, thanks man. can you still look after the kids today?" corbyn asked. morgan technically could look after her siblings, but since jackson was out of jail now, the two didn't want to risk anything.
"of course. you know your family is always welcome. just bring them on over before you go to your interview." he smiled, and patted corbyn's shoulder. he then looked over at daniel. "if anything happens, anything at all, you two always have a safe place to go." he said, pointing over at his house.
daniel gave him a small smile and nodded his head. "thank you. for everything, troy." daniel spoke softly.
after exchanging goodbyes, the two went into their own house. corbyn shut the door and locked it. daniel set his hand on his hip and turned around to face him.
"i'd feel a lot better if we picked them up early from school." he quietly said. corbyn nodded his head.
"okay. let's go get changed then."
❥
"i'm here to pick up morgan and alex besson." daniel said to the lady at the front desk. the two went to a normal school, due to their request. although they were extremely hesitant, myta told them it was perfectly okay. it was a k-12 school, meaning isla and reese were both in high school
"alright, we'll send them right down for you. can i see ID first?" the redhead asked. daniel pulled his wallet out and showed her his drivers license. "they'll be down in a few minutes." she grinned.
"thank you." he smiled and went to sit down with corbyn.
a few minutes went by when alex came skipping into the front office, right into daniel's arms. "hi daddy!"
"hey buddy." daniel said weakly, kissing his forehead. "how was school? for the hour that you were there for?"
"good! we started addition and sub-subst-" alex frowned. "subst.. substraction?"
"subtraction." corbyn helped. alex made a sound.
"yeah! and we read a bad case of strips!"
"oh i loved that book!" daniel chuckled, and looked up when he saw a gloomy looking morgan. "hey, love."
"hi dad." she whispered, messing around with her phone case. daniel and corbyn shared a look. he stood up and set alex on the ground, the boy grabbing corbyn's hand and dragging him out to the car.
daniel wrapped his arm around morgan's shoulders and slowly began walked. "want to tell me what's wrong?"
morgan stayed silent. she swallowed thickly and leaned closer against him. "can i switch to online school?"
daniel looked down at her. "why?"
"i just.. i don't like listening to people saying homophobic things about my dads."
"oh." he sighed and turned to face her. "morgan that shouldn't bother you, baby. i'm sure it's uncomfortable for you to listen to, but it doesn't bother us, it shouldn't bother you either."
"but it does." she whispered. daniel grabbed her hands and kissed the top of her head.
"if that's what you want, we'll get you transferred out. but you have to finish your 8th grade year. it's too late in the school year to get you switched out, okay?"
"okay." she smiled small and wrapped her arms around his neck. "love you."
"i love you too, monkey."
❥
when they got back home, daniel finally saw the paper sitting in front of the door. he crouched down to pick it up, and when he did, his stomach flipped.
i've missed you, daniel
