i'm not that cruel, guys—

"we need to pull the plug. he's been on life support for almost six months. he's already long gone." wendy spoke sadly to corbyn. he was staring at daniel's lifeless body, a machine controlling his breathing. wendy came up to new york, after hearing the news.

"um.." his voice was raspy from the screaming and crying he did in the last hour on the beach. wendy seemed to understand, leaving the room.

corbyn licked his extremely chapped lips, standing up with wobbly knees. he stumbled over to the bed, gripping daniel's cold hand. "i understand.." he forced himself to swallow, his bottom lip wobbling. "i understand you're in pain. i understand you..  you need to go," corbyn sucked in a breath. "i'm not mad. i'm not. i'm not sure if i'm happy you'll be free or not, but i'm.. we'll be okay." he bit his lip. "we'll be okay." he repeated.

he sat on the bed, bringing his limp hand to his lips, kissing his dry knuckles. "daniel, i've cherished every single moment with you. even the bad ones. the laughs, the kisses, the kids, i won't ever have a bond like that again. i can't. you mean so much to me, i love you so much. as much as it will pain me to let you go, it's for the best." he whispered, wiping his cheeks with his shoulder. "thank you for all the amazing memories. your pain will be gone now, baby boy. you'll be free from all of it." corbyn kissed his hand again. "if you must die, sweetheart.. die knowing your life was my life's best part."

corbyn didn't hear a flatline.

instead, he felt daniel's fingers twitch. he stared down at their fingers, sucking in a deep breath. "dani? dani, baby.."

daniel's arm began to tremble. corbyn covered his mouth, calling out loudly for wendy. it only took a second before she came back into the room, her eyes widening. "oh my god." she mumbled.

"what's- what's happening?"

"i don't.. he could be waking up, it could just be random shakes." she swallowed thickly. "he might be going into another seizure. help me get him on his side. careful with the tube."

while corbyn did that, wendy paged some nurses. the door opened, and took over corbyn's spot. corbyn's thumb found its way to his mouth, he was biting on his nail nervously.

when he started shaking, corbyn shut his eyes. he couldn't watch him seize again. he refused. he waited for the flatline. he knew it was bound to happen.

instead— he heard a loud gasp.

corbyn's eyes snapped open, tears stinging his eyes. he saw daniel choking on the breathing tube, clearly panicking.

"daniel? daniel, relax."

watching daniel have genuine fear in his eyes, broke corbyn's heart. he looked confused, scared. he watched wendy and the nurse take the tube out of his throat. daniel heaved, letting out a loud cough once the plastic was gone. wendy handed him a cup of water, her hand gently on his back. "welcome back, honey."

he took the cup, gulping down the water, feeling it sooth his raw throat. he sighed, frowning up at the doctor. "what are you doing here?" he rasped out, shivers running down corbyn's spine at the sound of his voice.

"you're my favorite patient, honey. obviously i'm going to come up here to see you." she chuckled, checking his vitals. "there's someone here to see you." she said softly, pointing to corbyn. daniel followed her finger, his eyes softening when he saw corbyn. "come on, lyds. let's leave them be."

when the door clicked shut, corbyn didn't move. he felt like if he were to move, he'd realize it was all a dream— that daniel was dead. so he just stared at the tired looking male with scared eyes. "corbyn.."
