"I like the little crab," I giggled.
It was a real hot day on Nicholus Bay in Florida. Jakob, my best friend, sat in the warm sand beside me. We met when we were about 7 because our mothers both have jobs in the same place. Now, I was 12 and he was 13.
"So you really have to leave today?" he asked. I could tell that me moving was not going to be easy for him at all.
"Uh-yup. My mom and I will be off to New York in about 8 hours now," I sighed.
I looked out towards the long aqua ocean and smiled. Now, he was staring at me. It wasn't just a small glance, he was staring. I pretented not to see his green eyes and kept mine on the ocean. I didn't realize how much I would really miss this warm sand, sun, cool breaze, palm trees, or even Jakob until today.
"I'm really gonna miss you," he uttered.
My face turned bright pink and I gave him a huge hug.
"Best Friends Forever," I wispered into his ear softly.
"Look I should really tell you something," he said.
"Lindsey, we gotta get going! We need to go back to the house to get the left over things packed!" mom yelled across the beach.
I hugged Jakob and planted a small kiss on his cheak.
"Tell me when we meet again! Cya at the airport!" I hollered over my shoulder.
I opened up the door to my room and dug through a box. I pulled out a small sparkly frame with a picture of Jakob and I in it on my 8th birthday. I pulled out a small slip of yellow paper also that read 'I really will miss you. It's going to be so hard here without you. Promise me you won't forget me? Love you, Jakob.' A tear streamed down my face and I slowly tucked the note into my jean pockets.
"Let's go now!" mom shouted.
I easily shut my bedroom door and carried myself down over the stairs, following mom to the car.
Once we got to the airport, I said goodbye to Kayla, Jenna, and Nikki first. Then, the hardest goodbye of all, Jakob.
"I promise," I whispered.
He grabbed my shoulder to easily pull me into his arms. That was it. I let go everything I had in me and let all the tears flow. The more I cried, the harded Jakob squeezed, which meant I could barely breath now. He let go and kissed my cheak lightly.
"Until next time," he whispered.
Mom grabbed my hand and started to pull towards the plane to board. My heart sank as I looked back to see Jakob crying. I had never seen him cry, until this point. Mom handed a tall lady our two tickets, and with that, we were gone.
