"Your boyfriends here? This is your boyfriend?" He asks while smiling at River.
"Is that a problem?" River asks and the rest of the group is dead silent.
"Not at all, I just thought that her boyfriend would be the guy who would send all the assholes away." Fuck, I forgot about that. The whole fucking reason I got him to come over here. I mentally facepalmed.
"He would trust me there is nothing this one loves more than a fight," I say while laughing a little and poking River in the stomach in a very cheesy way. "But he got in trouble with the police recently and they're watching him. He can't control himself when it comes to guys hitting on me so I didn't want to burden him and I certainly don't want him to get into any more trouble." I say while slowly grabbing his arm. I hope he doesn't see my hesitation to even touch River.
"That sucks, man." He says while putting a hand on River's shoulder.
Hopefully, he wasn't coming on to me. Lucas turns towards Hunter and Carmen. Carmen's face looks like a tomato now that he's looking straight at her. I giggled to myself then turn to River.
"Here. This is yours right." I say pointing the beer at him.
"No, I'm the designated driver. I actually did get it for you."
"Oh, thanks. For both the beer and helping me out. I couldn't handle Carmen's crush getting the wrong idea with me and it's better to be safe than sorry." I say looking down.
I will have to lie to Carmen now about being in a relationship with River so she won't know I suspected anything... or I could tell her we were just trying to see how things went and River got possessive. So then the next time I see them I can just say things didn't work out and we're just normal roommates now.
"No problem." He says looking above my head. After about three seconds of silence, Malia grabs me and we go over to the dance floor.
On our way, Malia says, "Nice work, girl. I mean that was a close one, but you were hot on your feet."
"Thanks, do me a favor and don't tell Carmen that River and I actually aren't a thing. I don't want her even knowing that Lucas might have got the wrong idea even if it was for a second."
"No problem. I hope they didn't see it themselves. I mean I saw it but as soon as he got a look at River it faded away." I laugh at that. "He tends to have that effect on other males. That's why he's my bodyguard tonight." I laugh again and we start dancing.
I'm surprised no guys come up to us but then I look over to where we were standing and see River is shooting daggers at the guys around Malia. I wish Dean was here I think as I slowly stop dancing with a thoughtful look on my face.
"What's up?" Malia says as she pants from all the dancing.
"Nothing. I was just thinking about Dean." I say while catching my breath.
"Oh." She says waiting for me but there is nothing else, that really is all I was thinking about.
"I'm gonna go get another beer," I say while tilting my empty one upside down. "Do you want another?" I ask while playing with my hair to get it off my neck.
"No thanks, I'm not finished my first."
"Alright, I'll be back," I say while letting my hair loose again. I go straight to the keg and try my hardest to ignore the glares I was getting from girls looking at the tiara. Were these girls really that shallow?
"Hey." I hear some girl say behind me.
"Hey," I say while taking a sip of my beer and putting some hair behind my ear.
