That is where I stood, leaned against the wall with my stupid stub legs. Waiting for the stupid ymbryne and the stupid boy.

Not my ymbryne. My ymbryne is gone. Swallowed whole by the vast body of water that spent us all away. Stupid water. Stupid me. I couldn't save any one of my babies.

Another tear rolled down my face. Another tear hit the floorboard.

'You couldn't save them!' My brain yelled. 'You failed!' 'You killed them!' 'You failed Miss Pipit!' 'You failed Katie!'

Another tear. Down my face. Against the floorboard.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Ten minutes later, it seemed, I still stood there, leaning against that wall, my eyes tightly shut in an unsuccessful attempt to keep the tears from falling down my face.

That's when I felt a soft, small hand on my shoulder. I jumped up slightly, looking at the set of delicate eyes, looking at me with worry. "Adelydd, dear, what happened?" The bird asked.

I leaned off of the wall, and fell into her arms, wrapping myself around her. "I couldn't save them, Miss Peregrine!" I cried out, tears streaming down my face. The ymbryne must have known about the whole ordeal, because I didn't hear her ask about Miss Pipit, or the other syndrigasti in my loop. Miss Peregrine held me, comforting me. "Do you want to rest some more, Adelydd? You certainly don't need to be down there, given your current state of being. I greatly underestimated the amount of wounds that have been properly healed." I simply nodded into the bird's chest.

She ordered the boy behind her to help me back to my room, which of course came with a scoff and a "fine." I stared at the boy, getting annoyed with him. Even after just the couple of encounters I have had with him, he hasn't seemed to get any less annoying, nor any less annoyed with me.

He took my arm, a bit tightly, making me wince a small bit. "Carefully, Enoch. We wouldn't want to hurt our guest, would we?" which was replied with a sarcastic "of course not, Miss."

As the ymbryne slowly walked away, down the short distance from the hall to the stairs, then from the stairs down, out of sight, Enoch brought me back to my Victorian room, obviously in an extreme state of annoyance, as he always was. I turned to the boy, still limping with him, ever so slowly, and asked, "what are the others like? How many are there?"

Enoch sighed, a quite guttural sigh, and went on a rather glossed-over rant of all the children in his loop. "Emma, the oldest, can make fire. Fiona can make plants and other nature grow fast. Bronwyn and her brother are really strong for their size - I'll have to show you Vicky later. - Hugh has bees in him. Claire has a back-mouth. Happy?"

I puckered up my lips, and looked at him, "what about you?" He looked forward, and sighed in annoyance. "How about you stop asking questions, alright?" Which caught me off-guard. "I just want to know what you can do..." I whispered, not directly at him, more towards the ground.

After a couple minutes of annoying silence, Enoch brought me to my door, and, after opening it, stepped out of the way, his arms crossed. "Well, here you go," he said, as I hobbled my way into the room. It took probably closer to 20 seconds to cross the small room, taking a normal person 5, but when i sat down, I felt such a surge of relief, which soon turned into boredom.

I was going to have to stay in this stupid bed for another many days. How fun is that? "At least I don't have to be by Enoch for another week" I whispered to myself, smiling. It wasn't all bad, right?
