The more they listened, the more it sounded exactly like Jin Guangyao and they would have ended the case here had their gut instincts tell both of them something seemed off.
"What about his height?"
"He..was quite tall"
A frown overcame them. Jin Guangyao was one of the shortest people there was and no matter how short the old lady was, she should never have described him as tall.
Jin Guangshan? No he was essentially controlled by Jin Guangyao until the point of his death.
Weiying was out of ideas for who it was, and out of ideas for what other questions they could ask the old woman.
From what she has told them, the few things they gathered were:
- some strong cultivator was behind this whole thing, likely someone they didn't know
- the killing of villages of people was assisted by a piece of yin metal
- they probably knew of Weiying and tried to do something similar to Demonic Cultivation. It wasn't a lot, but if they were to ask the lady more or get more information from her, they could probably figure it out, especially with the brains of someone like Lanzhan.
Lanzhan, "Is there more that you could tell us about what happened?"
"I've told you all that I know but I'd try to answer any other questions you guys have"
In coordination, Weiying and Lanzhan stepped out of her residence to talk in private.
Yet, when they did get out into the open, neither of them said anything. Or, more like, neither had anything to say.
They pondered in silence for an awfully long time, before Weiying broke the silence.
"Lanzhan, I think we should drop thi-"
"Weiying, no."
"Huh?"
"You want to drop this because we're at a dead end but the Weiying I know would never just stop investigating someone, no matter how bleak it gets. The reason you want to drop this, is because there's someone you have in mind, but you don't want to face it."
Weiying stood in silence. Yea, he had someone in mind but he would rather not come to terms with it.
Lanzhan, too, stood in silence. He knew from Weiying's expression his words were correct. And similarly, he had someone in mind, likely the same person as Weiying.
"Lanzhan, you know, I really am impressed with how fast your brain turns...in terms of investigations and piecing things together. Yet, when it comes to feelings and expressing them...."
Lanzhan immediately turned five shades redder and glared back.
On the other hand, Weiying's echoing laugh could be heard by the old woman, causing her to come out to question the situation- and hence, reminding them about what brought them to this mountain.
They laughed the situation off and had convinced the old woman there was absolutely nothing wrong with them.
She looked concerned but, too, waved it off and assumed they were just fooling around. All three of them walked back into the living area, sitting down for a cup of tea.
The two held hands under the table and as if through telepathy, plus the squeeze of a hand, they began to ask more questions.
Again, they started off with the more general ideas, avoiding what Weiying didn't want to face.
"The young leader- was he around our height?"
"Uh- more or less, yes"
Weiying bit down on his lips, nervously planning his next question.
"Did he lead a gang of- don't worry, forget it, I've already asked this before"
Lanzhan looked at his soulmate, trying to read into his current state of mind- annoyed, worried, scared, angry? There were so many emotions Weiying could be feeling right now.
Before either of them could say anything, the woman began, "Actually, there might be some more information that might be helpful. Those cultivators, who eventually got caught and put into jail, had spoke badly of the youth after he left. They said things like how unprofessional he was and the absolute waste of resources to achieve what he wanted. And also-"
Weiying cut her off- there was enough information to confirm that both of them were correct in their assumptions.
Simultaneously, both of them asked, "Did he wear an outfit of purple?"
The woman sat quiet for a second, "Mn, he did"
Weiying closed his eyes, maybe, maybe, maybe, it was out of good will??
Lanzhan, as if sending Weiying's frustration, finished the questions off for him.
"Was he called Jiang at any point?"
"Yes yes, the cultivators referred to him as the Jiang lad."
"Did he-"
"Lanzhan, there's no point in asking more. Jiang Cheng is the only person out there who matches all the descriptions."
