Jay x Reader (Red String AU)

Since the age of ten years old, you constantly witnessed a warm red-colored cord connecting your mom and dad. It always bothered you looking at them but you didn't know why till you dared to ask your mother what it was. Your mom motioned you to sit beside her and you happily cooperated.

"This is a red string, dear. It connects you to your soulmate" Your mom gives you a kind smile. You look at both of your hands and to your surprise, there was no red string attached to your ring finger.

"Why don't I have one?" Your mom paused before looking at your ring finger. She looks back at you and replies "...your red string will appear once you're older, (N/N)." She gives you a reassuring smile which you reciprocated with her.

8 years later, still no string. By now you have already given up on getting your red string, in finding your soulmate. You lie on your bed as hot tears started streaming down your face. "What is wrong with me...?" You said to no one, in between sobs. You went to turn on your phone and open Youtube to watch videos in an attempt in consoling yourself.

During your 5th marathon of watching a series called "The Mandela Effect", you received a notification in your inbox.

You checked to see what it was and man can explain how exhilarated you were when you laid eyes upon it. It was a message from one of the members of Danplan, Jay. A guy you were also great friends with before the channel skyrocketed. He asked you if you could Livestream together on his channel.

You agreed to his offer and he told you that he'll be streaming next week. You set off your phone and smiled to yourself. Out of excitement, you tried to get the tub of ice cream you had on your lap to prepare your setup, but when you looked down, you saw the ice cream fell right on your shorts...

Present (2 years later)

You burst out laughing at Dan's stupid joke. You type a snarky reply back, and the loud clicking of your keyboard was heard in your entire room, Dan sent a wave of 'HAHAHAHAH's' on the way.

"Are you both done with your shitty jokes?" Stephen messaged, you rolled your eyes and shrugged off his attitude.

"I'm bored right now, Dan and (Y/N) aren't helping" Jay added in the conversation. Your face flushed in embarrassment immediately. Jay always looks sincere whenever he sends something which made you think he was, though, in the back of your mind, you knew he was getting in on the banter.

"I remember that they're opening Vidcon again, you guys think we can have a meetup there?" Hosuh says in the group chat.

"That sounds awesome, Hosuh!" You replied along with a heart emoticon.

The other three agreed as well and you decided your meeting place would be at a restaurant that you were unfortunately unfamiliar with. You all closed discord and went on with your lives.

You rolled out of your chair and hopped on your bed. You took a glimpse of your ring finger. As usual, there was no sight of the crimson string that you always see on other people.

Your eyes felt heavier than usual. You knew that there was no hope in expecting a soulmate anytime soon, you accepted it for a long time now but,

it still stung knowing you'll never have the love of your life.

(The day of Vidcon)

"Today's the day, (Y/N)." You spoke to yourself. You fixed your hair into a tiny ponytail. You wore a multi-colored hoodie paired with some ripped jeans. You take your bags from your desk and went outside to book an uber.

It was three minutes away and once it was parked, you went inside and waited to be dropped at the airport. You felt a smile creeping up your face as a lot of good memories with your friends started flooding into your head.

Jay introducing you to his friends, you and Hosuh doing song covers in VC, Stephen stepping in dog shit when he was taking a video of himself, and so much more.

Once you reached the airport, you instantly went in and booked a ticket to LA. After an hour or so, you got on the plane and slept through the whole flight. You squeal in excitement as you managed to wake up before the plane lands. The plane lands safely and all the passengers were free to leave. You left in a hurry and went to search for the restaurant you all agreed to meet at.

You found the restaurant and sat at one of the tables outside. You messaged the others that you've arrived.

Several hours passed and you could faintly hear Stephen's annoying voice getting closer and closer with Dan yelling at him to keep quiet. They took quite a while to get to the restaurant. You started growing impatient till couldn't wait any longer. You stood up and ran to the group with your arms positioned for a hug.

While running, you could see something glowing in the corner of your eye but you pay no more than a second of attention to it and continued dashing toward them. You wrapped your arms as far as you could on all four of the guys.

You pulled away when you realized that none of them hugged back but you still gave the four a big smile. "It's so awesome to finally meet you guys in person!"

The four didn't respond instead they looked down, their gaze was all focused on your hands. You tilt your head in confusion as to why they were so stunned. you looked down and your eyes widened.

The thing that was glowing earlier...was your string.

You tried to see who it was connected to and to your surprise,

It was Jay.

Jay snickers "Well at least I know who my soulmate is." He said calmly.

You were on the verge of freaking out right then and there but you held it all in. The atmosphere surrounding all of you was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Jay still had a grin plastered on his face.

"... Congrats you two!" Hosuh says first to break the silence. "Right, right!! Congrats!" Dan exclaimed.

"Well, this was definitely a fucking surprise! But we're still going to Vidcon right?" Stephen spoke out.

"Yeah, maybe my soulmate and I could even get a separate panel from you guys." Jay joked. Stephen hit him in the stomach playfully which made you all laugh.

Jay slings an arm on your shoulder. "Come on! We still have shit tons of things to do before Vidcon starts! Let's go!" Jay says, leading the way with you beside him.

Stephen paces faster to your side. "Good luck with Jay, that guy's even more of a handful than me!" Stephen whisper-yells to you. Your mind was still processing everything but you replied with a genuine grin on your face.

"Of course!"
