Everyone around you thought of him to be nothing more than the literal devil, a peril to the rest of the world. But you saw more than that. You saw a broken boy who needed a little help, and could frankly enough do with a bit of love and  care.

He was cared for, by Constance- but even you knew that deep down, it wasn't out of love or guardianship, but purely because she'd felt sorry for the boy.

She made Michael feel at peace with himself, made him feel safe and loved, but when she ended her own life, it took a toll on him.

___________

You'd walked in to your house after going for a walk, only to hear Michael's loud whimpers coming from one of the rooms. As you ran towards the noise, your heart dropped when you met the sight in front of you.

Michael was on his knees in front of a clearly lifeless Constance. You looked around, cigarettes were all over the place, pills on the coffee table and alcohol bottles laying half empty on the floor.

"Michael" You spoke softly, not knowing how to approach him. He looked up at you with his red, swollen eyes. "This is all my fault!" He yelled as more tears fell down his cheeks.

"Don't say that!" You snapped as you ran to him, immediately comforting him in your arms. Your heart ached for him as he held you tighter, crying loudly into your chest.

You sat in that position for what seemed like hours, until you'd realised that Michael had fallen asleep in your arms.

You slowly stood up, struggling to carry him but managing it somehow. You took him to one of the other rooms and placed him on the couch, putting a blanket over him before returning to take care of Constance's body.
