Penny for your Thoughts

Summary: The two of you go to a party, you end up getting drunk and having a deep conversation with Michael.

Warnings: (takes place before the apocalypse so it's a short haired Michael + you're just friends 🤷🏼‍♀️)

If there was a party, you were sure to be there. You seemed to light up the room everywhere you went, turning heads and bringing a smile to everyone's face. It's a shame you didn't notice how loved you were- instead, you pushed yourself away from everyone, thinking you weren't worthy of love or friendship.

Parties were a way for you to let go and forget about the darkness inside of you. It was a chance for you to be someone else for the night, forgetting all about your insecurities and tragic thoughts. But this party was something else. No matter how much alcohol you consumed, the darkness continued to reside inside of you.

.

"y/n?" Michael called as he walked through the crowded hallway and into the kitchen. He saw you with another girl, laughing loudly and getting wasted. "Michael!" You yelled drunkly when you saw him, jumping up and down, waving at him like a maniac.  He chuckled to himself and carefully made his way to you. "How much has she had?" He asked the girl standing beside you. "This much" You replied, pouting your lips and putting up your index finger. "A lot.. Like, a lot" The girl giggled. "I'll take care of her, you go party" Michael told the girl. "Just make sure she gets home safe" The young brunette smiled before walking away to join her other friends.

"Come on, let's get you home" Michael sighed as he put your arm over his shoulder and began to walk you out. "Michael?" You called. "What's wrong?" He asked as he looked down at you. Without another word, you'd ran out of the kitchen and into the nearest bathroom, Michael running after you. "y/n!" He cried as you fell to your knees and vomited into the toilet. He kneeled down beside you and put your hair back, rubbing your back slowly. "Thanks" You whispered as you wiped your mouth and got up slowly. "Get yourself cleaned, i'll find you something to drink" Michael told you before leaving the bathroom.

You made your way over to the sink and rinsed your mouth before washing your whole face. After drying yourself up, you stared at yourself in the mirror for some time. You were a mess, to say the least. Tears brimmed your eyes as you thought back to how many drinks you'd had, yet none of them had seemed to have gotten rid of the pain.

"Here's some water" Michael called as he stood in the doorway, snapping you out of your thoughts. "Thanks" You smiled lightly at him before walking over and taking a few sips from the bottle. "Can we go home now?" You asked him. "Of course, lets go" He said as he lead the way out of the bathroom, through the crowds and out of the house. "Hop in, make sure you don't hurt yourself" He spoke lovingly and with care as he held the car door open for you.

Although the car ride home was quite, the two of you felt comfortable in the silence- that was broken when you spoke up. "Today i realised something" You uttered. "What was it?" Michael asked, his eyes fixed on the road, yet you knew he was paying full attention to you. "That-, whenever i push people away.. They just go, they don't even try to fight for me or try to stay; they just leave" You whispered, loud enough for Michael to hear. "That's not true, you know it's not" He sighed sadly, truly hurt by how blind you were to how much you were loved by everyone.

"I'm just.," You started to say but hiccuped in the middle, probably cause of all the booze. "I'm not good enough" You continued. Michael knew you were drunk, but he wasn't going to take it any second longer. Shaking his head, he brought the car to a halt, parking on the side of the road before turning to look at you.

"I won't listen to this any longer. I won't allow you to downgrade yourself and beat yourself up about stuff. You matter, y/n. You might not see it but you're loved, by so many and by no one more than me. You're my best friend, okay? And i love you too much to just sit and listen whilst you shit talk about yourself. You are the most amazing person i've ever met and i guarantee you that almost every other person in your life thinks that too. I don't care if you're drunk right now and won't remember this because you bet my ass I'll be repeating this to you every single day" The blonde boy articulated.

He sighed heavily, waiting for a response. "Wow" You muttered. "I don't deserve you" You shook your head, tears brimming your eyes again. "I love you, you know that?" You added, placing a soft kiss on his cheek. "I know. Now let's get you home you big dumbo" Michael chuckled before beginning to drive off again.
