**************************************************

The next day I woke up to balloons tied to the foot of my bed.  Attached was a note from Mitchell.

Dear Cleo, I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your questions.  There is too much secrecy in the pack for my liking, otherwise I would tell you everything.  Please forgive me for my untimely exit.  These balloons are part I’m sorry part get well soon.  I was going to give you a formal apology but you looked so peaceful.  I didn’t want to wake you.  Mitchell.

First the flowers then this, what is it supposed to mean?  Well at least he isn’t mad at me or blames me.  Though this is the second gift he has brought me in a week and we don’t even know each other like that.

I look up when I hear the door creak open.  I see Carter’s tan body slide quietly through the door.  He is looking at the ground as he silently closes the door behind him.  When he looks up his eyes land straight on mine then he lets a breath out without ever dropping my gaze.

“I thought you were asleep and didn’t want to wake you,” he says quietly.

He sounds sincere when he says it.  As soon as he walked in the door the whole atmosphere changed.  It’s like you could feel his commanding presence in the room.  No matter how tenderly he talked my instincts never let me forget how dangerous Carter could be.  He looks at the ground like a young school boys trying to find the courage to ask his crush out on a date, he looks back up at me.  His green eyes say it all, he wants to tell me something but is afraid that if he doesn’t word it right then things could go wrong.  Carter slowly walks toward the bed all the while keeping his hands behind his back keeping something from view.

“Are you feeling better today?” He asks as he sits on the bed beside me.

“A little” I reply.

“I brought you this” Carter says as he pulls a brown teddy bear from behind his back to place in front of him.  I gasp because who would have thought scary Carter would bring me a stuffed tear bear to make me feel better.  The bear is a light brown with dark brown eyes. The bear is holding a heart that reads Get Well Soon.  I look up to see Carter with a pleasant expression on his face.

“I’m glad you like it” He says.

I’m more surprised he got it than I’m in love with the bear; though it has been years since anyone has bought me a present like this much less a bear.  This makes me wonder what happen to his temper and anger state he was in the last time I saw him.  Before I lose my courage I ask

“Why the change of heart?”

Carter sighs and looks away from me at the ground.

“I just felt that I needed to make it up to you and I thought you could use a smile on your face.”  He looks back at me at the end of the sentence.

I can say I’m impressed.  Though I know he will never say it this bear is his way of saying will you forgive me?  I place the bear on my lap and play with its fur.  I continue to look at the bear while I say

“I forgive you.”

Carter looks at me, confused, then realizing what I meant, gives a brief smile.

“So you like your bear?”  He asks.

“She will do” I smirk to myself.

“She, so it’s a girl?”
