If you asked me what I thought I would be doing when I was 20, I wouldn't have said freezing my butt off with a murderous weapon in some random Russian forest to get to Moscow. I'd probably say something like getting a "real" job and getting someone to grow old with. And I don't see that job anywhere nor that missing soulmate.

And while I'm thinking about that, I realize I never truly asked why the hell we're even going to Moscow. Yeah, I know it's one of those 'must-see' cities, but why exactly. I mean, what's there for us? Is it a safe house for us lost ex-HYDRA rats?

Not to make anything weirder, but that dream I had about that building falling and Romanoff. It's wack. Like, honestly, what the actual heck?

If walking in a circle while I get frostbite is the cause of the weird thoughts I'm having, then I blame--. I don't know who I blame. This weather? The Solder? HYDRA? S.H.E.I.L.D.? Myself?

Guess I should get to the bottom of my questions...

"Why are we going to Moscow, again?"

The Winter Soldier hesitated, "To call S.H.E.I.L.D."

I have gotten used to his lack of information in his answers. I don't really mind it. It's like the Soldier knows I have intel, but I can still feel his annoyance.

"Wouldn't that--wait, how do you know how to contact S.H.E.I.L.D.?" My mind bubbled over with wonder, edge, and nerve as I looked up to his emotionless face.

He shifted his eyes to meet mine. "S.H.E.I.L.D.'s open with who their leaders are to the world. Surely a former agent would know that?"

He was learning quickly how to get under my skin.

"Yes, but-but I wasn't quite an agent-I-I was a Tech Engineer, I-" I scambled over my words.

The Soldier pursed his lips, "Tech Engineer?"

I nodded uncomfortably and rubbed my numbing hands together. I hoped he wouldn't push on the conversion, I was proud of my work experiences; I'd rather not let be known I was a stupid shit that HYDRA hoped was Roger's rumored new "sidekick." Too bad I'm not special nor that rumored sidekick.

Silence, thankfully, took hold.

The wind softened.

My eyebrows creased in confusion.

"...Something's not right..."

The Soldier ignored my whisper.

We traced through the brush. I looked around, paranoia bitting into the back of my thoughts.

My breath hitched in my throat.

My glaze flicked anxiously into the branches as if I expected them to just to glide down the snow-buried leaves.

I drifted my hand to touch the winter-concrete bark. Sadly, I couldn't feel the tough bark, to trace it, longingly. The brown-amber colored hummed a homey melody. I closed my eyes. Trying to calm my nerves, I took in deep breathes of the frozen air. My gloves casually caught onto the thick bark as I touched the bark. The material hugged onto each tree. It was as if the tree wanted for me to stay with it as if it was lonely or scared--

I opened my relaxed eyes. At first, my eyes squinted into the light bouncing off the snow, a bright glare. I regained my thoughts and looks to where my glove had caught the tree. My eyebrows creased.

A click echoed behind me that made me jump. The Soldier had taken the safety off his gun.

I felt the cut in the tree. A monstrous gash made by a blade. Light brown splinters grew like ivy down the slash, a river of disbursed wood against the darker mocha shore. HYDRA was careless, but never this careless. This was someone else? My thoughts spilled through my head.

I tried to pick the words I needed to say, "...Sol-Soldier? Who did this."

"We need to go," there was a sense of urgency in his voice. His gaze trembled down the slash in the tree. "Now." He grabbed my shoulder, pleading me to leave with him.

"Wait--I don't understand. Who did that? Tell me!" I tried to sound stern and ease off my worried tone.

He peered down at me, his expression threatening. "They've found us."
