three years ago it's been a week since briar had last seen myles which was very unusual for the two of them. usually, they hung out in either of their rooms, listening to music, watching a movie, talking about their lives or telling each other the weirdest jokes.
myles hadn't replied to any of her texts for days and she was starting to feel like something was bothering him. usually he replied within a few minutes, even when he was busy. something was off and she was scared to find out what it was.
looking out the window in her room, briar saw him leave through the erlick's front door, making his way towards the car. she took the opportunity to run downstairs and greet her best friend - big mistake.
"mylo!" he turned his head at the sound of her voice, but didn't seem too happy about seeing her.
"briar, hey." he smiled.
"where have you been? i haven't seen you in ages."
"i've been busy."
"is everything alright? you have texted me either? i'm worried about you." briar asked, stepping closer to him.
"i'm fine." his words were cold - nothing she had ever heard from him.
"are you sure? because you don't seem too happy about me talking to you"
"maybe because i'm not." he shot back at her, causing her to take a few steps back, tears starting to form in her eyes.
"w-what?"
"oh for fucks sake. leave. me. alone. stop being so fucking clingy. get some fucking friends will you. i have a date. bye." myles said as he got into his car and drove away. this is the moment he shattered her heart into pieces - leaving a void that no one would be able to fill. those were the last words that myles said to briar - the words that haunted her in her sleep because she had no idea what she did or why he said that to her. after that, he never picked up his phone or replied to any of her texts, he didn't even look at her when he walked past. myles simply just stopped acknowledging you as a real person and briar had zero idea why, which was probably why the whole thing still haunted her year later.
that day, briar went up to her room cried her eyes out, wishing she had never become friends with him. wishing he had never told her that he'd be there forever.
she cried because of her broken heart, and she thought she knew what a broken heart was, but everything that had happened before was nothing like the pain she felt after hearing those words from myles.
she cried because of the possibility of losing her best friend, her rock, her shoulder to cry on. he should've been there to fix you, to hold you, to tell you everything was going to be alright. myles wasn't supposed to be the one making you cry in the first place.
she cried because she got hurt by the only boy she thought would never hurt her, a boy she loved more then anything.
she cried because being 18 just sucked. why couldn't she be 10 again. when it was just her and tom.
"have you ever kissed someone?" myles asked as the two of them were lying on the grass, looking at the stars.
it was a beautiful summer night, the two of them were on their summer break and usually spent nights in briar's garden, talking about random stuff. she was always fascinated by everything involving space and the outer universe so this was one of her favourite things to do. the two of them were silently lying next to each other until myles had asked that question.
"no..."
"d-do you maybe want to?" he whispered as she turned her head to look at the boy next to her.
"n-now?"
"i mean, it's the best that could happen, right? practicing before either of us get a boyfriend or girlfriend. we know everything about each other... and you would tell me if i sucked at kissing."
"okay."
"okay?" he was surprised that she had actually agreed.
"yeah, lets do it. i mean, it's you and me, right? all cool" she smiled as the two of them started to lean in until their lips met in the middle. his lips were soft against hers, the two of them unsure of what to do next. what was surprising to the both of them, was how right it felt to kiss each other. she may have had no idea on how to kiss back then or how to move from that point, but she knew it felt right - like the two of them were made to kiss each other.
he was her first crush. thinking back to that night, briar never realised how much she should've valued that moment, valued the friendship they shared - because it seemed to be over sooner than she thought.
he was her first kiss. the moment his lips met hers for the first time was the moment she realised that she had fallen for her childhood best friend - and there was a part of you that wished he had too.
he was her first heartbreak. myles took briar's heart out with him when he closed his car door that day. it wasn't until two and a half years later that her current boyfriend - liam mackie, came along and started fixing things. briar were happy, he was great.
but did she forget about myles? no.
did she forget what myles had said to her that day? no
did those words still linger in her ear whenever something seemed off with liam? yes.
myles fucked her up and she wished she could say she hated him, but she couldn't. there was still a part of her that missed the brunette boy and his beautiful eyes. that part of her hoped that she would one day know why he said those words to her. was it his fault he left you three years ago and never came back to you?
