Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that my first poem is inspired by a line from a poem by the spoken word artist Shane Koyczan. That line is "I was told to accept the identity other will give me." Everything else in the following poem is my work :)
I was told to accept the identity others will give me
But couldn't they see
That all I wanted was to be free
From the standards imposed by society
So when I told them what I would rather be
They laughed and called me an oddity
And so I lost sight of my own beauty
As I let go of my creativity
I told myself that there was no place for originality
And that it was better to conform to normality
Now I am adored by many
But I feel quite lonely
My life is nothing but misery
All because I accepted the identity
Others gave to me
