Then, I was shaken awake. I opened my eyes to Marcus and Michael's face in my view.
"What happened?" I asked, confused while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. I looked outside, seeing that it was still night time. Probably around one in the morning.
"A storm's coming on. It's been raining, and there's going to be some thunder. The counselor wanted everyone to stay in their rooms, except one representative from each room. So I'll be back in a few hours." Michael replied, grabbing his coat off the hook and putting it on.
We waved a bye, Marcus yelling a 'careful!!' to him, and then the door closed.
It went silent for a few minutes, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Just listening to the heavy rain hit against the wooden walls and glass was soothing enough for me. Suddenly, the loud thunder made a giant 'boom' sound, making me jump back.
Marcus, noticing my fear of thunder, wrapped his arms around my waist. His hands barely touched my recent cuts, it stung for a little, making me give a small wince.
Marcus looked down at me, strangely. "Are you okay?"
I nodded, giving a small smile.
Another crackle of thunder sounded, making me jump again and scream. I nudged my head farther into Marcus' chest, him chuckling at me. He wrapped his arms around my body, and together, we fell on his single bed.
I shivered from the coldness of the storm, it was causing the room to turn into a freezer. Marcus laughed at me, getting up to get something out of one of his cabinets that were filled with clothes.
What he pulled out looked like some sort of sweater. Marcus pulled out of his cabinet and came back to the bed. He shoved it onto me and grinned at his work, which I rolled my eyes at.
"There. Better?" He clapped his hands, and turned on the tv before wrapping his arms around me again.
"Yeah.. Whatever.." I blushed, using his arm as a substitute for a pillow.
"Oh shush, I'm happy." He swatted at my head playfully, but made no move to move me. "Go to sleep again or something."
I nodded slightly, not caring if he knew it or not, and then closed my eyes for another nap.
As I awoke from my sleep, Marcus' arms were still wrapped around me. We were face to face, our lips almost touching. I could feel his breath on the top half of my face, his eyes still closed. I watched him closely, the way his lips moved when he breathed. Then, he suddenly popped open his eyes.
"Good morning." He says, smiling.
"Good morning sir with the ewwie morning breath." I say, getting up.
He laughed at the comment and left to go to the men's bathroom. I grab my small makeup bag and headed to the girl's. I saw Isabel in there too, waving a hi at her as I began brushing my teeth. She nodded in response, turning her ipod on, blasting music inside the girl's bathroom.
I laughed, and spit out the remaining toothpaste in my mouth and taking a mini towel out of my makeup bag. I washed it, and cleaned my face. Once that was finished, I added a light set of makeup. After everything was all finished, I exited the bathroom, where Marcus was waiting for me.
Maybe I wasn't exactly confident with my appearance, but I had makeup to help me with that.
Together, Marcus and I head back up to the room, seeing Michael still knocked out. We left, leaving him alone. We knew that he was exhausted after what happened yesterday. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something glint coming from my open bag.
My razors.
Crap. I didn't know I packed them with me.
I rushed to my bag, pushing the bag of razors deeper within my bag. Zipping the bag up tightly, I laughed, nervously, as I faced back to Marcus. He was looking at me with the same strange expression he did yesterday.
"Everything alright there?" He asked, his eyebrow raised in suspicion. He craned his neck trying to catch a glimpse or anything that was hiding behind my back.
"Oh nothing, nothing. Come on, let's go eat breakfast in the cafe now." I pulled his arm, dragging him out of the room.
I wonder how Maya did during that storm.
Maya's POV:
I pouted, looking down at the screen of my portable tv. We weren't exactly aloud to bring our electronics with us, but I did anyways. What was I supposed to do? Be bored? Heck no, I ain't taking that.
I respawned again, this time, choosing another class for my character. I was more of a close-up attacker more than a sniper, or whatever.
"Haha!!! Died again did ya!!?" Sage snorted as he ran around the map.
We were playing 1 V 1 on Halo 4, one of my favorite games. It started with just a normal talk about interests, moving onto the video game topic, and then leading to who was better at Halo. Whoever the loser was, had to be the winner's slave for the rest of the time we were in camp. It was a fair bet in my opinion, so I accepted it.
But I would totally take it back if I could.
The score was 23 to 19, me being 19.
Seven kills later for him, and I'd be the damned loser.
I cursed under my breathe as I messed up my whole plan, meaning I just caused an instant death for myself.
Sage began firing towards my direction, starting too far.
Big mistake, I thought, grinning evilly.
I pointed the red dot sight scope of my gun at Sage's character, and shot.
"Head shot!" The game shouted, Sage's half of the screen returning to the gun class menu.
Sage rolled his eyes as he watched me fist pump into the air.
"23 to 20," He yawned, pretending he was tired. "You're going to lose anyways, might as well be my servant for me."
"Nah, I'm good." I said simply, going back to the game.
The rest of the game took another half of an hour. For some time, I got a 5-killstreak. Then, the rest was one kill for Sage, one kill for me, one for Sage, me, Sage, me, Sage, and I won, with the last kill leaving about a few minutes left on the game clock.
"Are you sure that you're going to be the servant?" I asked Sage, smirking.
"Uhhh. Please let me go?" He pleaded with a tearful face.
I shrugged, "We gotta get me some breakfast first, peasant. Come on, carry me to the cafe."
He exhaled deeply in frustration, and pulled me into his lap to carry me bridal style, making me blush as I remember what happened last night.
*Flash back*
Tears rolled from my eyes as I brought my knees closer. As the thunder got louder, the more frightened I became. I was never good with thunder, yet I acted like nothing scared me. It was just like a cover up to me, a mask.
Vincent and Banner had left long ago to help with making sure everyone safe and secured inside their rooms. Now, it was just Sage and I, except that he was sleeping, and I wasn't.
I was curled up into a ball on the top bunk; a crying, whimpering mess. I tugged on the now moist blanket even tighter, trying to somehow find a 'secure' feeling for myself. But nothing worked.
"Maya? Are you okay?" I heard Sage's voice speak, almost drowned out by the loud screams of the storm.
"Mhmm!!" I replied, backing myself into the wall. I looked up from my position in between my mattress and the solid surface, seeing Sage's face through the darkness of the room.
"Don't tell me you're scared?" Sage asked, resting his chin on his arm as he watched me intently with his piercing green eyes. It was almost as if they were glowing.
I quickly shook my head. I didn't try to say anything, fearing my shaky voice would ruin it for me. I smiled weakly at him as I got up, sitting on my knees.
Another boom sounded by the thunder.
I cried out and jumped forward, into Sage's arms. With my arms wrapped around his neck, I buried my face into his shoulder.
"Shhh, it's alright, it's alright, I'm here," Sage comforted me, patting the small of my back as he carried me to his bed. "It's just thunder, nothing to be afraid of."
"Sage?" I spoke out softly, barely higher than a whisper. "When is this going to be over?"
"To be honest, I don't know Maya." He replied. "All I know is that we'll be fine. So stop your crying and worrying. Go back to sleep alright? I know you've been awake for a long time, I couldn't sleep with all your whimpering and sobbing."
I blushed, "It's not my fault I'm scared of thunder-"
*BOOM* *CRACKLE* *BANG*
"Yeah, you're scared alright. You jumped into my lap," Sage laughed, resting his arms around my waist. I smacked his arm lightly, then rested my head on his chest. I was able to hear his heart, and right now, it was beating fast.
"I'm sorry you have to do this Sage.."
I felt him shrug, "It's alright. Least I like the girl."
I blushed more, "Shh, stop with the jokes already!!"
"Who said I was joking?"
I didn't respond after that, but I knew he was smiling even though I couldn't see it. I closed my eyes, as my head continued to rest on his chest.
I didn't even know I fell asleep.
I wonder what happened to Riley.. Is she okay?
*Flashback end*"And that's what happened?"
"Yes!!"
"Oh my gosh!! Maya!! That's so adorable!!!" Riley squealed loudly, clapping her hands together.
"Yeah yeah," I waved my hand off at her. "I came here for food. I'm starving!!! Be back in a few, come on Peasant!!"
Sage sighed loudly, "I'm coming, I'm coming."
He followed me to the front of the line, "Two usuals please!!" I requested from the cashier woman.
She nodded, and walked away, coming back later with two covered plates. Sage took them both, and I showed her my student I.D. causing her to gasp, and nod with excitement. She ushered me away, to not attract other students, also handing me a chocolate milk box.
Lord, please watch over this woman. She handed me my childhood just now. You know how I love my Moo Moo Milk.
I smiled a thanks to her, even though I was dying inside, and walked back to the tables with Sage right behind me. Once seated, I took a plate from him, and uncovered it, revealing all the goodness I now get to eat; sandwiches, chocolate pudding, mango, chips, and special toy for my special little self.
Vincent burst out laughing, pulling the toy out of its tray, "You got a freaking toy?!?! That's so baby-like!!"
Sage glared at him, "And so what? It's kinda cute that she still gets toys. So shut your mouth."
Vincent gave an intimidating look, "Take a joke will ya? It's funny, but I don't mean it seriously. Jeez."
"Yeah, but it's stupid how you can only make a joke when it's about someone else other than yourself."
"That's fucking why I said that I'm joking dammit."
Sage was about to give another comeback, but I stopped him, giving him a smile and a shake of my head as if to say, 'No more, it's cool.'
"Are you sure?" Sage said instead. I nodded, resting my head on his shoulder as I continued to peacefully eat my food.
I don't want to leave this camp, knowing I wouldn't be able to see Sage anymore..
