Maya's POV:

I yawned, lying down on my back as I looked up.

My hand raised towards the ceiling of my tent. I closed my hand, and then opened it, repeating the grabbing process for another few times. I closed my eyes, leaving my hand open, but still up.

I missed him.

Suddenly, I felt something, or someone, put something in my hand. My eyes snapped opened, revealing a Sage with an apologetic expression on his face. I looked to my hand, noticing that his hand provided the warmth for my cold small one. And it enclosed around mine, just as if he were holding my hand.

I blushed, realizing the position we were in, and shot up..

"Wha-" Sage got cut off.

Thanking the heavens for watching over me, I accidentally slammed my face into Sage's. For a few seconds, we didn't move. Honestly, I was hoping he would first move, but then, not everything you want happens, right?

I felt Sage put a hand to my shoulder, pushing me back a little, adding space between us. He gave me a nervous, scared look, and sighed.

"I'm sorry..." He trailed off, averting his eyes away from mine. I smiled sadly, and shook my head. It felt like someone had punched me hard in the chest. Then, the pain kept pounding, over and over again. My hand clutched my heart, it was like it had shattered in the span of one minute.

I didn't know where my feet were taking me, but next thing I knew, I was in front of the teacher's cabin, with a letter implying that I needed to go home as soon as I can. I forged my father's signature as best as I could and took a deep breathe as I knocked on her door.

It opened, revealing a sleepy-looking woman. She wore a pink and purple robe with pajamas underneath and had her hair up in a bun.

"I- uh..." I didn't know what to say, and it didn't help that I was stuttering from nervousness. "I need to go home quickly please..."

"I can't hear you dear, please speak up." She switched her lamp on and shined it towards my face to get a better look at me.

I felt my blood rushing to my cheeks, why was I getting embarrassed? I'm freaking Maya for Christ's sake.

"I need to go home as quickly as possible please, I have a letter from my father saying that I was only able to stay for this amount of days...and yeah..." I trailed off, and handed her the letter. She took it and I watched as her eyes speedily moved left and right as she read it. Finally, she nodded, seemingly taking the lie that I gave her, and ushered me to hurry back to my tent.

"Just have your things packed and ready by 8:30 tomorrow morning okay? I have another student that's wanting to go home also, and you two could just go back together. When you get back, you have the rest of the time off until the others get back as well alright? I hope your sibling is alright too. Have a good night, honey." I thanked her with a nod and ran back to my campsite. Everyone was sleeping.

I laughed quietly to myself. Like they would wait for me, who would? I thought, unzipping Riley's and I's tent before climbing into my sleeping bag.
